27 Questions

Everything was going well. As Rose and her mother were traveling, she held her mother's hand. Near the portal, they saw a line of people. They also joined the queue and waited for their turn. Rose still hadn't let Serena's hand go. Finally, their turn arrived.

When it was their turn, Rose told the destination to the guard. The guard set their destination to St. Jones academy.

Every academy has its own Travelling portal to stop the journey time of their students. It was a requirement if you wanted to set up an academy in Nehan.

<gwofw>The guy who has come up with them in the name of protection paid the charges. But, suddenly Serena threw Rose's hand away and made a dash toward the guard. Before Rose and the guy could comprehend what happened, Serena reached the Guard who sets the destination. She tried to punch him, but the guard successfully dodged the attack. The guard was surprised, but he had trained for this. So, he wasn't flustered and prepared for the fight.

It all happened so fast that Rose and the guy didn't have time to react. She rushed toward her mother.

The guards started surrounding Serena. While fighting, she changed the destination to a random place. She had no idea where. The guards noticed the destination change, but they didn't worry about it as they would stop her from leaving.

Rose tried to reach her mother, but the guy who came with them blocked her, as Serena was already surrounded by guards.

"LET ME GO," she yelled at the guy, bit his hands, and rushed.

She successfully reached her mother.

Serena's injury can now be clearly seen, As the blood was oozing out of every wound she had. She was covered in blood.

Everybody thought that her motive for the fight was to run herself including Rose. And, Rose was completely fine with that. If Serena could run and save herself, she won't have to come back to the Churchill estate.

But, Everybody was taken aback when suddenly, Serena pushed Rose toward the portal. Even the guards were surprised by her actions. One of the guards suddenly made a move toward Rose to stop her from getting in the portal. But, he didn't have to, as somehow Rose balanced herself to not go through the portal.

When Serena saw Rose stopping, her eyes lost luster.

When Serena found out that she would be traveling with Rose. She already made a plan to save her from marriage. She knew the consequences of her plan became successful, but, she didn't care.

Now, Rose also started facing the guard's attack. The guy who came up with them couldn't stand still. If something happened to Rose, he would be in big trouble. As these are the city guards, he couldn't directly attack them.

"Sir, please let her go. She's just a child. That woman is in the wrong," He tried to have a conversation with them. So, they would focus on Serena, not Rose.

But, the guards didn't listen to him and continued attacking. He had no choice but to protect Rose from the guards' attacks.

Rose was injured all over her body. She was panting after the guy came over to take their attack. As the guy was stronger most of the guards started fighting him. He was in a bad situation, but Rose didn't care. Her main concern was for her mother, who was in a critical situation due to fighting with so many guards. Some of the guards were even stronger than she. She had injuries on every part of her body.

The fight is still going on near the portal. Rose rushed toward her mother. Before she could reach her, her feet got frozen just a single step away from the activated portal. Serena pushed herself to the guard's sword. Her heart got pierced by the sword. Even the guard stopped attacking her, as he didn't expect suicide.

"NO, LET GO OF MY MOTHER," Rose yelled in a hoarse voice.

A smile appeared on Serena's dying face, as no one can stop Rose from leaving now.

"Please, leave. You've to grow up to be a beautiful and a good person. I couldn't do a-a-anything for you. But, you've t-to make me pr-," Serena's last words came to a stop due to her passing away.

"NO, YOU CAN'T DO THIS," Rose yelled in a hoarse voice. Yet, she still didn't move. She stood rooted in a place only to be pushed into the portal, by the Guard on whom's sword Serena killed herself.

"Don't let your mother's sacrifice go in vain. Make her proud. I'll give your mother an honorable funeral. Go," these were the last words the guard said to Rose before pushing her into the portal. But, she didn't hear him.

"Why did you do that?" The guy screamed at the guard.

"Arrest him for attacking the City Guards," The guard ordered the other guards in response to his question, as he was the superior officer today.

Rose fell unconscious due to the portal, only to wake up today.

When she finished her story, her voice had become hoarse. Her eyes were blood red due to the crying.

Dev stumbled due to the shock. The pain he desperately wanted to forget and, the pain he had hidden somewhere unknown, started coming back. He felt like his heart was being ripped apart.

The memories he had with her started appearing in his mind.

He forced himself to stand up. He went toward Rose, patted her shoulder to calm her down as well as himself. He had vowed to himself: he'll never cry again. So, he didn't.

He left Rose on her own and went outside the clinic to get some fresh air. Lily also followed him outside.

While looking at the sky, he sighed.

"Meoooooow,"

Dev's alone moment got disturbed by Lily. He turned around and picked her up. He tried to play with her, but she bit him on his finger. A smile automatically came on his face, seeing Lily's antics.

"What kind of a sick world do we live in?" He asked her the question he wanted to ask ever since he lost his family.

In response, he got silence from her. He didn't mind, and he asked another question, "How did people become so cruel?"

"How come weak are just the chess pieces of the strong?"

"Is a life only a tool for another to reach their purposes, no matter how developed or how different the world may be?"

"Why, despite having many things, others don't have, we still want more?"

He scratched Lily's chin, she purred in response. He then asked the question he wanted to ask ever since he found out about the Power Level.

"If I somehow revive my family. Will I ever be able to look at Natasha's eyes and say, 'your father is a good man'?"

He smiled wryly after reading out his question in open.
