Chapter 25 I Won't See You Off

Alice hesitated for a moment, nodding to the bathroom. She felt her mind still in a chaotic state. Perhaps because of crying too much? She raised her head, and couldn't help but exclaim, finally confirming that she was awake.

Her whole face was covered in messy makeup, especially her eyes, which were totally the same as panda's. She struggled to think: when exactly she did put on makeup, and her memory slowly pieced together. She slowly removed her makeup, seemingly forgetting that John was outside. She washed her face and tied up her long hair casually, took a deep breath to calm herself down.

Alice pushed the door open and smelled the fragrance of the food. She instinctively looked towards the kitchen, where the range hood was wide open. He took off his coat, inside was a fitted white shirt, tall silhouette, cooking skillfully, and when he turned to her, he smiled, "Come over and help."

Alice's face blushed slightly but did not move her feet. She felt extremely embarrassed, this man had just seen her crying. Being seen without makeup was embarrassing at most, but being peeped into her mind made her feel at a loss.

John put down the food in front of Alice and looked at her pale face. "Try the food, you must be hungry for crying so long." There was a hint of laughter in his tone.

Alice asked, "You can cook?"

Standing next to her, he started on the dish, "Yes, of course, what do you think of me? a rich man, a billionaire?"

Alice looked at the food and couldn't help but sigh, "It looks delicious.".

Alice's attitude towards her own cooking skills was objective. After getting her own department, she used this small kitchen a few times. Today, due to her shopping addiction and confusion, she bought so much food. She remembered this clearly, so even though she cried in confusion, she still remembered to call for takeout.

The living room's lights were much brighter than those in the kitchen. As Alice lifted her head, she noticed the small grease stains on John's shirt. It was from a very expensive brand. She felt embarrassed: "Your shirt…" He enjoyed the food without looking up, "It's okay, I couldn't find your apron, but dry cleaning can remove it."

Alice responded with an "Oh" and suddenly smiled, "Apron?"

John glanced at himself and couldn't help but laugh as he asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, Mr. Williams, when you say that word, I feel… out of place." Alice grabbed a mouth of food, and was truly amazed, stammering, "How is it so delicious?"

John smiled and said nothing.

At that moment, the phone rang. Alice picked up the phone on the table. Seeing the name on the screen, her fork paused in mid-air, the slight smile that had just appeared completely disappeared, and she slowly reached for the phone, as if moving a bit slower would help her to escape.

"I see, tomorrow afternoon?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"I won't see you off."

She remained silent on the phone for a long time, then suddenly spoke in a calm tone that didn't sound like her usual self: "Why are you seducing me again? We've been apart for so long, I really don't care." She hung up the phone and focused on eating, her mind fully occupied.

John didn't ask her anything, just gave her a casual glance.

They finished the meal in silence. Alice got up to tidy up the dishes and, as an afterthought, gave him a cup of coffee. He was carefully examining a DVD box set. "Can we watch this?" he asked, raising the DVD to show her.

Alice paused for a moment, then quickly said, "Sure, go ahead."

After she finished tidying up, the room fell silent, with only the sound of the TV. He casually picked one and placed it in the player. She stood quietly behind the sofa, her hand on the back of the sofa.

The heroine tilted her head and smiled at her hero, "Could you please teach me to write my name?" Perhaps because she was from a different region, her accent sounded a bit odd.

The hero took her hand and wrote slowly. She said, "I've remembered it." Her gaze was so soft, which Alice was very familiar with. Having someone to love and be loved was perhaps the happiest.

"Miss Smith, Are you better now? Would you like to talk about what happened?" He probably knew she was standing behind him and asked in a tone that was relaxed and straightforward, clearly not putting any pressure on her. "You're no longer a child, yet you can still cry that passionately. Why?

Alice sat down in front of him, trying to sound casual, "Three years for breaking up..., can you imagine how I feel?" She shrugged, trying to make herself feel indifferent, "I just feel a little sorry for myself, so old."

She felt it was good to have someone to listen. She had never spoken to anyone about these feelings, but as she spoke, she felt like it was a real breakup until that time when others witnessed it.

Most of the time, when she spoke, she was looking at the TV, so she didn't notice John looking at her with tenderness and concern. He looked at her as if she spoke out all her heartaches and secrets.

It wasn't until she mentioned the phone call just now that Alice breathed a sigh of relief, "That's it, I feel like it's completely over." However, her voice grew softer, "I'm really silly, I've just been lying to myself all along."

Her ponytail had become somewhat loose, and her expression appeared softer. The sight of her sent his heart racing.
