Chapter 11

Mithran felt like pulling out all his hair.

What the hell are they going to do now?

"I should have seen that coming" Mithran bit out furiously

"There is no point worrying over spilt milk" Chaahat said, in her usual emotionless tone, irritating Mithran more.

"For heaven's sake, Chaahat. Do you know what the implications of this are? The marriage we thought could be fake will be real now. It would be legal. We would be legally bound to each other. And since the documents are prepared by the registrar, there will be no clause about the three months in it. Do you understand now?" Mithran bit out angrily

"I figured as much, Mr Yadav" Chaahat said

"And still you are all cool about it?" Mithran asked in disbelief

"As I told you before, the tag divorcee wouldn't be much of a bother to me. And about the three months clause, we have to take a leap and trust each other on this." Chaahat said

"Trust? Trust someone who couldn't even tell me who she really is? You gotta be kidding me!" Mithran said

And a niggle of suspicion ran down his spine!

Could all this be a ploy?

What does he even know about Chaahat?

Did she think this could be a wonderful opportunity to get settled in life?

No, he is not a narcissist. But then he has to admit the truth. He is a well settled man, with a huge wealth at his disposal.

All her life, it seems his father had taken care of everything. Now, as his father is diagnosed with such a deadly disease, did she think she has to find someone else to be her life long sponsor?

And what if all this 'I don't believe in marriage' is an act. Just so that he would trust her to leave after three months.

Mithran's lips thinned in annoyance as that possibility took hold in his mind.

If Chaahat thinks that she could play him like that, then she has no idea who he really is.

"If we are going to sign these real marriage documents, I would want you to sign a prenup agreement, Chaahat" Mithran said and watched as her eyes widened slightly and her fingers formed a fist.

Damn it!

She didn't expect that from him!

She didn't expect a prenup.

What the hell is her plan?

"I hope that's okay with you, Chaahat?" Mithran asked smugly

Chaahat was taken back to a couple of years, when she heard the term prenup.

She was forced to sign one prenup, once.

The hurt and humiliation she felt that day came crashing into her and she clenched her fists to control the memories and the pain.

No Chaahat. Don't go back there. You will never be able to return. Hold on! Hold on! She chanted to herself in her mind.

"That's alright, Mr Yadav" Chaahat said, though her voice came out a little strained. Her throat was burning as she tried to control the urge to cry out remembering those past memories.

"Great. I will arrange for the papers to be brought immediately" Mithran said

"Excuse me, Mr Yadav" Chaahat said and hurried towards the restroom in the corner.

She splashed cold water on her face multiple times.

Her fury has no bound.

What do these rich people think of themselves? That everyone out there is after their money?

Two years ago, the blow was to her heart. She was happy for the first time in her life and the prenup had come as a shock. But they had all regretted it too. But it never brought any satisfaction to her. Because it was too late by then.

This time, the blow is to her self respect.

"Mithran" he looked up to see Shravan and Abhay walking towards him.

"Hey. What are you two doing here?" Mithran asked

"Well, our friend is getting married. You are the only one among us who is getting married with prior notice. So we thought we should attend, to give you moral support" Shravan said

"Even if the wedding is fake" Abhay said

"It is going to be real" Mithran said

"What do you mean?" Shravan asked in confusion

Mithran explained everything regarding the arrival of the sub registrar. And also about his suspicion that Chaahat could be a gold digger.

"Man! What is this? An ITV soap opera? You think she is a gold digger just because she isn't wealthy?" Shravan asked in disbelief

"I spoke about the prenup just so that I could see how she would react. And she took the bait. Though her face remained expressionless as usual, I noticed her body language. She was infuriated when I mentioned the prenup" Mithran said

"Don't regret what you do now, Mithran" Abhay said

"I will not. Let me arrange for the prenup to be drawn immediately" Mithran said and dialed their legal team head.

Mithran spotted Chaahat, as she walked towards them.

"Umm Shravan, Abhay. This is Chaahat" Mithran introduced

Chaahat acknowledged them and left to sit in the chairs outside the private room.

"She doesn't look like a village bumpkin" Abhay said

"Yeah. I was shocked too at first. I expected someone in a half saree and double side braids to rush into the hospital, crying her heart out" Mithran said sarcastically

"Her clothes look branded" Shravan observed, now knowing almost all the female clothes brands, because his wife loves modeling for him while shopping.

"It does, doesn't it? That's why I am suspicious. How could an orphan village girl afford to buy such expensive clothes? There must be someone sponsoring them for her? What if she had been sponging off on my father all these years" Mithran asked furiously.

Before either of his friends could respond to that, he heard the high pitched cry of his mother.

Doctors and nurses rushed in and out of the private room

"What is happening?" Mithran asked but got no response from the doctors.

Fed up, he took hold of a male nurse's arm and stopped him in his tracks

"What the hell is happening? What happened to my father?" Mithran yelled

A/n

What could have happened to Mithran's father?

Will he survive?

If he doesn't, what will happen to Mithran and Chaahat?
