Choosing Classes

As the frenzied chanting came to a stop I couldn't help but have shivers run down my spine.

Just what had I gotten myself into?

On the surface, it seems like your classic isekai hero x demon lord story, but somewhere down the line, we shifted genres into this survival of the fittest, battle royale fest.

At the very least, I don't see myself being bored in the near future.

A crazy excited grin spread across my face as I felt myself get infected by the atmosphere.

"Heros victor evadet… how fitting indeed… hahaha!"

The principal decided to continue his speech.

"Each one of you will be given the Yggdrasil Hero System. It will guide you and help keep track of your progress for the rest of the time you spend in the academy.

Every single platform carries 100 students each which constitute one class. For the first years, everyone in your class comes from the same world or 'leaf' as you.

For second years, everyone in your class comes from the same minor branch. Each minor branch holds hundreds of leaves on it.

For third years, everyone in your class comes from the same major branch. Each major branch is split into hundreds of minor branches.

Similarly, fourth years are from the great branch and fifth years are from the limb.

The trunk of the world tree only has 5 limbs.

All first years are beings from mortal, level 0 worlds. In other words, worlds devoid of any form of supernatural energy. The time in these worlds pass extremely fast and is thus the most suitable for finding a large number of hero candidates. These are the lowest level world in any minor branch.

As you are promoted to second years and further, students from higher level worlds will also begin joining you.

The only way to survive in this academy is to stay in the lead and get promoted in time.

This is enough for the orientation. Your instructors will explain the rest to you."

The principal waved his hand and all the platforms carrying the first years were teleported away.

The rest of the ceremony was exclusive for the upper years.

This time I found myself in a medium-sized hall filled with all the students that had been standing on my platform, in other words, my class.

Wearing the mask was indeed a good idea, considering the fact that I was basically a celebrity back on earth.

This time we weren't immediately assaulted by a speech, but each one of us was greeted by the mechanical voice of our personal instance of the Yggdrasil Hero System as shining golden letters started scrawling their way across our vision.

I looked around me and noticed that a little more than a tenth of the people in the hall were wearing masks like me. It seems that the winners in the test had already gotten a head start.

I smiled mischievously to myself before typing in my chosen name.

'Nagi'

It means 'one with snakes', reminiscent of the nickname that I am known for amongst my enemies.

The Agent seems to be a class based on my pistol.

While hot weapons might have the absolute lethal advantage at the current stages, I still prefer the subtlety of using a hidden knife.

While I do have experience racing cars and bikes as a hobby and had to learn noble etiquette and music as a kid due to my special upbringing, never have I ever been the boss of an underground organization… but technically… I do have the skills to run one.

Guess it won't be half bad to try it out.

I nodded and then scratched my chin while figuring out which class to choose.

Hypnotic swindler will probably help me improve my persuasion and manipulation abilities, Puppeteer will perhaps also help me control others to play out a show the way I want it to… traitor will probably help me betray others? Why would I need help with that?

The class that interested me the most was Conspiracy weaver. On the surface, it seems like it would just help improve my scheming skills but I keep feeling that it might not be that simple. There is a possibility that it has an overlap with the other 3 classes as well. After all betrayal and manipulation are both parts of conspiracy.
