"Darkness is but a shadow,

All people have one.

It doesn't make someone evil,

Just don't let yourself plateau,

From the fear of others' guile."

Thunder crashed outside the castle as Cedrick von Bloodsworth stared out his window at the gloomy weather. In his lap sat his wife, as they sat there in silence. They knew that their time had come. For years they had known that this moment was coming and that there was nothing they could do about it. 5 years ago, when Cedrick's father had died, and he inherited the throne with his wife, they had a seer come and visit their castle. The seer had dire words for them, however.

"You are pregnant, and your child might save this realm, or they could be the one to bring it to its knees. 5 years from now, Heretics of the worst kind will kill you, setting in motion a series of events that will lead to ripples in time. If you try to avoid this fate then this realm, and this world, will come to an end."

So here they were, sitting and waiting for their deaths. Over the years they had monitored the movements of the people that the seer had spoken of and had learned that the people were trying to open a gate to hell and destroy the continent.

To protect their son, they had set up fallback points and emergency plans, along with training him as much as they could.

"I only wish that we could have seen him grow up," Cedrick's wife, Valentia said, remorse thick in her voice.

"I know, but now we have to let him go," Cedrick said. Outside of their room, they could hear steel hitting steel, and men screaming. Even though this though, their child didn't scream, or cry. He was 3 years old, and at the age of 2, he had been kidnapped by some blood cultists. When they found him, he was living there, wrapped in a red blanket, with blood and bodies all around him. A note was left for them, and he had never cried since.

"This child has my blessing, and with my blessing, he shall be safe. I know of the struggles you will have to go through in the near future, and I can promise you that there is a place for you at the side of my crimson throne."

Ever since then, they had followed Khorne, who was the one who left the note for them, and they felt secure in their child surviving.

"Milady, it is time." A voice said from behind them. Turning around, she carefully handed the baby boy to Aalondor, who was Cedrick's best friend and right-hand man.

"Take good care of him, '' Cedrick said, before patting him on the shoulder and shooting him off through a side tunnel. Before this night, the royal family had personally seen the destruction of all documents related to their son. The final part was left to Aalondor, who was a master at mind magic.

Taking the secret passages, Aalondor came out of the tunnel a mile away from the castle in the middle of a forest. There, hidden in a bush, was a black steed. Hopping up and onto the horse, Aalondor was about to depart when an arrow came flying toward him. Shielding the boy in his body the armor penetrated the flesh right below his shoulder blade. He could feel that It was poisoned that if he didn't leave now, then he might not get another chance. Setting off out of the forest, he ignored the arrows that came down around him until he eventually escaped his pursuer.

3 hours later they arrived at a small sleepy village. Stumbling up to the porch, Aalondor banged on the door.

"Bloody hell, who is it!" A voice came from inside before the deadbolt to the door was lifted, and Horn was revealed on the other side.

"Ooh gods, Aalondor, are you all right?"

"No... *cough cough* ... take this child, and protect him." He said.

When Worn saw the child he gasped in shock. It was the son of the king.

"What happened?" he asked.

"It's done, the royal family is dead." Aalondor said. He wasn't concerned about telling this to Eeorn because he used to also work for the king, and even before when the king was but a prince in his adventurer days, they had traveled together as a trio.

"So, the time has finally come?" Eeorn said with a sad and glassy gaze. He had served the king for over 30 years, and the fact that not only he but his whole family was now dead except for this child caused a hole in his heart to form that could never be fixed.

Reaching out, Eeorn put a hand on Aalondor's shoulder to steady him.

"Aalondor, are you off? You seem weak for Diamond AAA ranker"

"No, Acorn. Soon you will be the only one left of the three of us. I am sorry to do this to you, but I was struck when escaping the capital. I believe it's wyvern poison."

"Ooh, gods" Eeorn shuddered in sheer pain. Every adventurer knew what wyvern poison was. Made from the talons of a wyvern, it was the single most potent poison in the world. One drop could kill an S ranked.

Slumping to the ground, Aalondor reached a trembling hand out towards the sleeping boy, tapping his finger on his forehead. A bright flash of pink could be seen, and a ripple exited from his forehead, spreading out slowly like a wave, before dispersing into the atmosphere.

"There, his memories are now bound, and everyone except for you has not forgotten who he truly is."

"Jason, I am sorry that I won't be able to see you grow older, and I am sorry that I wasn't able to protect your parents. Make us proud" Aalondor said before closing his eyes and breathing his last. Taking the baby Jason back into the house, no one saw the small tear form in his eye, nor the neon blue color that his irises changed to for but a split second after Aalondor passed away.
