Chapter 23: Sandstorm!
The die had been cast. Only time would tell if the final act of deterrence would work or not. The frenzied mob stopped dead in tracks well before the barrage of gunshots had gone off and the bullets were nowhere near them.
All of them were no longer even facing the caravan but were instead completely focused on the Northern horizon. Completely, unexpectedly, they all cried out in panic to one another and ran off towards the south.
The mercenaries, completely baffled by this behavior, turned to look at the northern horizon, and they too were scared by what they saw. It was a massive sandstorm heading straight for them.
“Where the hell did that thing come from? We were really so focused on the mob that we completely missed this. It’s only a few minutes out,” one of the mercenaries said.
“We need to get back into our respective vehicles immediately and wait this out.” The commander said.
