Getting an upgrade

When the morning came and Dix opened his eyes, he was greeted by the best feeling he felt in a long time. Success. Fulfillment. Victory. These were the remnants of the last day, when he successfully infiltrated the Uchiha Massacre event and got his hands on some sharingans. This will be a huge power up for him, but also quite some problem. He will have to unlock the secrets of this mysterious bloodline technique to use it to its limits. Dix could already see himself use Susanoo or Amaterasu, somewhere far far in the future.

Now he had to research a lot tho, as these damn Sharingans are not operating like some sort of plug and play periphery. For the Uchihas its in their blood to use and control the eye. For those who have the eye but not the special bloodline required, they wouldn't be able to even turn the sharingan on or off, not to mention upgrading or evolving it. This is a huge handicap, and Dix decided to make a few workarounds. This is why he has the second and third eyes. To experiment on them.

Dix jumped out of his bed, changed his clothes, then rushed to check on the tanks containing the sharingans. He made sure everything is good and sealed, and noticed that the eyes were in great shape, so he still had some time. He had to put them in as fast as possible, because even in the preserving solution the nerves would die away sooner or later.

He packed everything he needed, then rushed to the Third's library. There he summoned enough clones to completely fill all surfaces the room had, then started handing out every single medical and bloodline related book he found. In a few hours everything was read and memorized to the best of his capacities.

With that done he rushed out of the village and went to the permanent camp where he found Yami sitting and waiting for him alone. She was left there the previous night when Dix completely cancelled the clones, but by now Yami was around 3 years old and was a proper nin-dog, she was considerably big too. She didn't need any care, as she was able to live on her own by now. She still stayed with her best friend.

Dix gave her some petting, summoned a clone to play with her then went on to the clearing where he already had many furniture set up, for example a huge tent, with various stuff for either research or comfort. There also was a huge dog-house for Yami, as she was firmly forbidden from entering the tent. Mostly because if she were to break something, that could be catastrophic.

Dix put the three tanks containing the sharingans on his research desk and started scanning them in every way possible, while also taking notes of his findings and his ideas. He also summoned two other clones that were supposed to do the same to compare and discuss data. Even though this was the same as speaking your own thoughts out loud, but actually speaking with another one of yourself can make thinking so much easier. Its just glorious.

At the end he found a few notable things and also came up with a solid idea on how to bypass the limitations. He would have to install many seals in his brain, close to the eyes, but almost all of the technology he needed was already in his hands.

What he needed to do was use the marvelous mechanism of the Eight Signs Seal, which Kurama was kept in. As Dix found out in the first few days of his life, this seal is able to convert Kurama's chakra into a type of zero chakra, that is universally compatible with anything, then it would eject said zero chakra into his chakra network, strengthening it. Dix wanted to use this same zero chakra to mimic the Uchiha's chakra generated by their unique blood, which would make him able to use the sharingan like any Uchiha can.

First he had to put limiters on the natural chakra pathway between the body and the eye. If he were to let it be, the eye would just keep on sucking the body's chakra away to keep itself powered without any possible control. If he were to install a switch to limit the eye's access to chakra he was pretty sure the sharingan would turn off as long as the stream of energy is low, then turn back on when its released.

This was good enough for a basic usage, but he wanted to use the eye to the fullest. He wanted to set up another seal array that would have another limiter in it for safety reasons, and the copy of the mechanism from the Eight Gates Seal, that is able to clear any chakra from its intent and unique properties, thus turning it into zero chakra. In the middle of the array there would be an isolated extract of the eye's special intent that is present in them at all times. The zero chakra would be guided to this extract, and by making contact it would be imbued and changed into the Uchiha's chakra, specifically the late original user's chakra, that is able to control and nurture the eye.

Before putting this plan into motion, Dix wanted to see if he can alter the basic seal to, instead of clearing all intent and properties, keep one specific key intent, and discard everything else but that. This could be like the order 'turn on/off' or if he managed to unlock the mangekyo sharingan then he would need to use that too this way.

He spent quite some time with every squad working on this one detail. In a few hours he was able to separate the clearing mechanism from the Eight Sign Seal, and even make the modifications to it. Actually Dix wasn't sure this would work the way it should, but every theoretical knowledge he had pointed to it being okay, so he just had to roll with it.

With the altered clearing function properly recorded he decided he didn't have anything he could do anymore just by thinking. He had to start the procedure. He dispersed every clone he had, then summoned four new ones and handed over most of his chakra, then severed the link he had with them. He knew if he were to lose consciousness the deployed clones would be forcefully cancelled, but he already tried before, that if he severs the connection between them, the clones would become completely separate entities. This means they would stay there as long as they have the chakra, even if Dix were to die.

Dix already bought some medicine that would knock him out good for half an hour or so. The clones will have enough time to finish the procedure. He really didn't want to stay awake, even if its him, but if someone were to mess with his eyes, he would totally freak out. Thus, he was knocked out. But the clones remained, as it was expected.

They waited a few minutes for the medicine to properly spread and keep Dix under water even if his eyes were to get ripped out. Then, two of the clones made their move to simultaneously remove both Dix's eyes surgically, the same way the did with the sharingans. If there are any complications or unforeseen consequences they would still be able to put the eyes back.

With the original eyes extracted, they quickly put them into the fourth tank that was already prepared beforehand, then sealed it tight so it won't have any problems. With the original body having huge gaping holes on his head instead of eyes, it was now the easiest and safest way to access the parts he planned on putting the seals at. All four clones worked on them at the same time to hasten the process. In a few minutes they managed to set up everything and double checked that they were well connected and that nothing was out of the ordinary.

Then they proceeded to open the container of one of the level three sharingans, took them out and headed back to Dix. They professionally inserted the eyes into the socket, then with surgical chakra control they reconnected the nerves and tried to revitalize the ones in the eye. This would make Dix easier to acclimate.

When all was done, and the clones checked 5 times each that every single nerve are properly connected and are in good shape, one of them pulled out the medicine that would wake Dix up.

When the original opened his eyes, the clones could see the sharingan flickering to life with a tiny red glow. Like some sort of gamer RGB light. At first Dix wasn't able to see, only blur and some colors. He managed to move the eyes, so at least that was working well. He also checked the seals and carved the necessary chakra pathways to the seals and from them to the eyes, so everything is properly arranged and works as intended. Now he just had to wait. The blurry seeing was a known and documented consequence of the surgery. After a few hours, as Dix kept trying his eyesight, it started to clear up and soon he was able to see way better than before. He could already feel the changes, and couldn't wait to try out more of the new features.
