1 The World Breaker

Buddha once said "One moment can change a day, one day can change a life, and one life can change the world." 'Well I earnestly believe that's a crock of shit. Here's how one moment changed the world, and quite literally changed the future... twice'

April 13th, 2021

It was a deceptively peaceful morning outside of the towering offices of one of the world's leading game development studios. There was a warm spring breeze blowing, making the trees outside the full glass conference room on the bottom floor sway gently. To any onlooker watching the situation unfold from the outside, it would seem as the trees themselves were trembling in surprise at the sudden announcement.

"...and so, it is with our deepest regrets to our loyal fans, our wonderful supporters around the world, and the gaming community as a whole, LightByte Studios will be closing its doors permanently, effective immediately."

At this point the conference room erupted with the sounds of cameras flashing, and reporters hurling questions at the woman standing at the podium. Her name is Aurora Hart, and she is the CEO and lead developer at LightByte Studios

Ever since they stepped on the scene a decade ago, her studio dominated every current gen gaming platform they set their sights on. Every game released by them had won Game Of The Year on every console, and at every award ceremony. Six games in ten years, and every single one had been a masterpiece. So, the question everyone wanted to know was "Why now?"

Much to the annoyance of the general public, and the reporters at the conference, Mrs. Hart gave no explanation. It was an earth-shattering announcement at the end of a conference that was only supposed to be an end of the year progress review on how well the company was doing financially, and how they were going to approach the next gen consoles that had dropped a few months prior. No one expected this bombshell of a woman, to drop that bombshell of an announcement, on the entire world.

Before any of the reporters could get any of their questions answered, Mrs. Hart was already walking off stage calmly, as if she didn't just blow the entire gaming community's head off with a bunker-buster.

Her long graceful strides made her reach the side doors quickly, where two of her bodyguards were already opening them for her. Before anyone could move a step from their seat, she was already outside and the doors were being closed behind her. Aurora's piercing green eyes never turned to look back at the reporters shouting behind her, and kept focus on the black SUV that was parked near the sidewalk right outside the doors.

'That went better than expected.' She thought to herself as she looked up at the sky. Unbeknownst to her, since the bodyguards had already shut the soundproof glass doors behind her, the entire world was in an uproar. Many people had invested hundreds of millions of dollars into LightByte stocks, for them to crash suddenly, causing the entire stock market to close for the day. While the brokers tried to deal with the aftermath, Aurora was smiling at the light breeze that caused her raven hair to flow in the breeze lightly. 'There's a new wind coming. And this time, it'll change the world.'
