MOM: You know the rules, Emrysa!
EMRYSA: (Thinking) {My mother, bless her heart, is so protective!} Mom, stop babying me. I'm not 14.
MOM: Listen, I'm really, really sorry that I'm missing your birthday this weekend.
EMRYSA: Mom, you know that I'm not mad about that. Your clients need you.
*EMRYSA*
My mom's not just a successful, self-made lawyer. She's my hero. Things have been tough for her, but she doesn't let that get to her. I want to become a great lawyer just like her one day! My mom adopted me, and even though things didn't work out for her, she has always been here for me.
MOM: I love you so much, sweetie.
EMRYSA : I love you too, mom.
MOM: So who's coming to your birthday party? Anybody special?
EMRYSA: Mooooom.
MOM: I just hope you remember the rules, Emrysa . No dating until you get accepted into a college!
EMRYSA: Mom! Who would I even date? You've seen the people I go to school with. It's just going to be Bella and some other girls from the cheerleading team. Pizza, Epifix and a chocolate cake! Nothing extra.
MOM: Sounds like a lovely night, sweetie. By the way, I heard the house next to us was sold. (Emrysa thinking {I'm gonna miss the times I hung out in that empty house.}) Maybe you'll have a new classmate!
EMRYSA: A new classmate? We'll see if they're cool enough to hang out with me.
MOM: Oh, my taxi is already here. Wish me luck!
EMRYSA: You're gonna kill it!
(Hugs each other)
MOM: And be nice to our new neighbors!

EMRYSA: Bella, I don't know...
BELLA: Come on, Emrysa! You deserve this! Your mom's out the whole weekend? We HAVE to throw you a party!
EMRYSA: (Thinking) {She's right! I've never had a big party for myself!} I guess inviting a few extra people won't hurt...
BELLA: Good, because I invited the whole school.
EMRYSA: You what?
BELLA: You're always telling me you wish you could go to a REAL party! Now's your chance to finally have one!
EMRYSA: I regret this rebellious decision!
BELLA: Sorry, I should've checked with you before letting everyone know... I was just so excited for you!
EMRYSA: Bella, my mom is going to kill me!
BELLA: We can just throw it at that empty house next door!
EMRYSA: We can't. Some new people moved into it!
BELLA: Well, now that is a problem...
EMRYSA: Sorry Bella... So what should we do?
BELLA: The only thing we can do - throw the best party ever!
(Emrysa laughs)
ADRIAN WALKS IN
ZOEY: Oh my God, who is that?
ROSE: We're seniors Zoey. Anyone we don't know by now isn't worth knowing.
ZOEY: Even hot new students?
Rose turns to see the hot new student.
ROSE: What?! Whoever he is, he's mine.
Rose walks to Adrian.
ROSE: Hey, there!
ADRIAN: Hey, what's up?
ROSE: Oh you have quite an interesting accent- what's your name?
ADRIAN: Adrian ... Adrian Reeves. Just moved here from Italy.
ROSE: I'm Rose Davis. Welcome to our school! You're luck you met me here first.
ADRIAN: Oh, really?
ROSE: I'm the only person worth knowing. Everyone else in this school's a try-hard loser. I'm the cheerleader captain too.
ADRIAN: I actually just applied to be football captain!
ROSE: Unfortunately handsome, that position is already taken.
ADRIAN: They'll change their minds once they see me on the field, Rose.
ROSE: No doubt, cutie. Let me show you around!
IN CLASS
(Emrysa thinking) {Where is Emmet, the test is about to start!}
Adrian enters the class, looks at the direction of Emrysa and sees an empty desk next to her. Walks to sit there.
EMRYSA: Hey! That seat's taken!
ADRIAN: Correct, now it is!
*EMRYSA*
I didn't know who he was, but the cocky smile, and those piercing eyes cut right through all my defenses. Something about this guy just made me feel...seen.
EMRYSA: No, seriously. Who even are you?
ADRIAN: Try to find my Epigram already, birdie? I'm used to it.
EMRYSA: Birdie?!? What does that even mean?
ADRIAN: It would be easier if I knew your name.
EMRYSA: If you want my name, you're gonna have to guess it.
ADRIAN: Not usually my style. But I'm game. You look like an... Abgenthesia.
EMRYSA: What!? No. Is that even a real name? I'm Emrysa. Oops.
ADRIAN: Adrian!
EMRYSA: Nice to meet you, Adrian! Now get out of this seat!
ADRIAN: Worried you won't be able to take your eyes off me?
EMRYSA: (Thinking){The ego of this guy.} Oh please. I have a boyfriend.
ADRIAN: You don't have to make up a pretend boyfriend, Emrysa.
EMRYSA: He is NOT pretend! He's-...
EMMET: Emrysa?
EMRYSA: Emmet! Thank God you are here!
EMMET: Who the hell is that guy in my seat?
EMRYSA: (Getting angry and thinking) {Oh he did NOT just take that tone with me!}
ADRIAN: I'm Adrian Reeves and this is my seat. Emrysa didn't seem to mind until you came.
EMRYSA: How dare...
EMMET: Are you kidding me? I need you for this stupid algebra test, Emrysa!
EMRYSA: Is that all you care about, Emmet?
EMMET: Of course! I can't fail it! My captain position depends on it!
EMRYSA: (Thinking) { My patience is on the edge}
ADRIAN: Surely, someone as pretty as you can do better than him.
MISS BURTON: Everybody take a seat. Mr. Walker? Please grab yourself a chair from the class next door.
Adrian laughs
ADRIAN: He deserves that.
EMRYSA: Don't think this means you can cheat off of my test.
ADRIAN: Don't need to. You're not the only smart one around here. Good luck on the test, birdie.
**LATER THAT DAY**
ROB: Alright new guy, if you want to make it on this team... you need to go through the rite of passage!
ADRIAN LAUGHS
OWEN: We're serious, Adrian. Our new team members have been doing pranks ever since this school existed! If you want us to have your back, you gotta prove you're worth it!
ADRIAN: Okay sounds fun. What do I have to do?
OWEN: we got invited to a big birthday party this Friday.
ADRIAN: And you just need me to pull a prank?
ROB: A big one. Pick whoever you want. But make sure everyone sees it.
