13 One and two- Alliance

Chapter one and Two

I ask for comments.

Kevin stood at the ship's edge, waiting for it to dock. In the glaring sunlight, their figures became more pronounced. Also helped their lack of uniform, the war skirt as the Mendaxes called them.

At 36, Kevin towered over his companions, his reputation as a formidable wizard preceding him, particularly in the realms of South Asia. The auror massacre of New Delhi, the yakuza massacre of 1976 or the tens of other duels he had participated in and won around that part of the world. (Henry Cavil with a moustache, from his role in MI: fallout)

Beside him, his younger cousin Randyl, 22, stood at a more modest height. Despite his youth, there was a quiet intensity about him. ( young Christian Bale.)

The two cousins strode forward, walking around the dock. Finally, their movements stilled, and the tapping noise from their shoes hilted. Their demeanour shifted from casual to alert as they approached the awaiting Aurors.

Adrian, 31, emerged from the ship's interior, momentarily blinded by the sunlight. Kevin and Randyl looked grimly at the aurors surrounding them. (Either young Jason Issacs or Tommy Shelby)

"Mr Kevin Mendax, Mr. Randyl Mendax and" He announced looking dead into Adrian's eyes. Adrian had to admit, that took guts. "Mr. Adrian Mendax. You are now under arrest ."

"On whose authority?"

"The President of Magical Congress of the United States of America, of course. Your list of crimes is never-ending, but it now ends, with the Mendax family brought to justice."

"Mendax family, huh? Funny how that works," Randyl interjected, his tone oddly playful given the gravity of the situation.

"Seems the sins of the few taint the whole family. What do we do Adrian?"

Adrian looked back at the auror. They had twelve of theirs directly holding the situation to a standstill by the wands pointed at the three of them.

He tried remembering Ursa's lessons, something, something about diplomatic immunity and international law.

"You cannot arrest me, esteemed auror. We at our base are still under the authority of the British Ministry of Magic, despite our long-term interest and investment in the American magical community, your arrest directly breaks ICW's laws, and breaches fundamental treaties between our nations."

The lead auror smirked "But you see, Mr Mendax, your arrest has been made legal. You broke your Queen's peace. We have your ministry's permission to treat you as magical of Americas under dual citizenship, the benefits you reaped under the unofficial status of yours now becomes official, giving you the banes with the boons of it."

Adrian again looked and counted the aurors surrounding them, slowly.

"Well, then. Let no one say I broke the Queen's peace half-heartedly."

...Longbottom Manor...

"Onto other matters. With this, the Lestrange name shall perish with Bellatrix. Now, would the Longbottom name be interested in revitalizing our alliance of the old?"

Alice was confused, while Frank and Augusta had known of the alliance of the old.

The Mendax and Longbottom had been two houses closer to each other than most. The whole alliance was actually between four houses, but two of them were stricken off the pages of modern history.

The Mendax had a longstanding hand in the rise of the Longbottoms, the latter could not have emerged as anything, much less a magical noble house without the help, support and blessings of the Mendax. (important plot point later)

Both had been called sibling houses, due to how close their bonds were. This was one of the reasons why the thought of intermarriage was taboo, likened to mingling the blood of siblings.

"What shall we gain from such a renewal? As it stands the Longbottom is in no fear of any harm." Frank gave a curt response, his voice was cautious, the weight of his family's safety pressing heavily on his shoulders. An alliance with the Mendax was always profitable, but always deadly. A double-edged sword that promised strength at the potential cost of being drawn into the Mendax's relentless battles.

"The remnants of Voldemort's forces roam unchecked, a lingering threat to you all." Leta stares at the child in Alice's hands. "Something tells me that it was not a coincidence that the little Potter boy drove away the Dark Lord, something tells me…"

The faces of the Longbottom family were grim as they were. "that the Dark Lord was not for the Potters, no… he was for the Potter boy. And by the way, the Potters had been hidden away; I see the same reason for the Longbottom child to be hiding under the wards of the manor."

"Neville will be safe, he is protected by his family. And the Gryffindor wards." The Gryffindor wards were infamously safe, for they could only be overpowered, their key lost into the pages of history.

Only two families traced back any origin to the Gryffindor line, to be lucky enough to be gifted with such powerful wards. The Longbottoms, and the-

"The same which held back the Death Eaters from killing Lord Fleamont and Euphemia in the Potter manor? The same which made the Potter child an orphan?" – the Potters.

"James and his wife were not in the Potter manor when the Dark Lord graced them a visit" Frank retorted, stretching the weak argument as it was.

"No, the Potters were under the Fidelius, and remain dead. I stand little to gain, but everything to give in the alliance, and still, you deny the generosity of the Mendax. So it be, we shall not ally with yourself, heir Longbottom." Frank saw little win in the argument, less so when his mother looked as if she wanted to say something. Even he knew, that if even the Fidelius could fall, if even the people as close as kin could betray them, then no one was truly safe.

"My son is young, prone to mistakes." Frank backed off from the discussion. "Speak Lady Leta, do you speak for the House of Mendax as her Lady, or House of Black as her regent?"

"Does it matter? You shall receive the same benefits."

"It matters in every way, as long as I am considered."

"I speak as both, Lady Longbottom."

"Then we shall receive your generosity with kind hearts and open arms. Let no one say the Longbottom and the Mendax have no love for each other."

Leta brought more papers to sign, and finally, all work was done. It had been important to do so, as their standing in the magical world had been questioned. The house of Mendax, ever so powerful, would not grow arrogant to fight a war overseas while enemies emerge in their homeland. The Longbottom Alliance take care of that to some degree.

They stood and shook each other's hands. Frank relaxed with Winflick amidst them, a normal one-man in between political snakes. Alice was much the same, innocent and unknowing of the consequences and the reasons behind the decisions taken in this meeting.

Leta turned to walk to the exit, the floo place.

Both Leta and Dowager Longbottom had big fake smiles plastered on their face, but their heart spoke vile words for the other.

Suddenly, the Dowager Longbottom's expression turned from grim to a deadly pale.
