Chapter 15

When the change finished, Kelly scrambled to his feet, all four of them, and darted across the kitchen to Simon. The professor had slid down the front of the cabinets to sit on the floor, a stunned look on his ashen face. Kelly licked Simon’s face and wagged his tail.

See? I’m real. It wasn’t a joke. I took care of you when that guy tried to kill you.

“Kel…Kelly?” Simon’s voice was barely audible. Kelly gave a soft yip of acknowledgement. “It…was…It was you?”

Kelly licked Simon’s face again. He settled to the floor and laid his head in Simon’s lap. Touchme. Stop disbelieving your eyes.

Simon’s good hand slowly touched down against Kelly’s fur. Trembling fingers stroked along Kelly’s back and down his side. Kelly rolled over and exposed his belly. I know you don’tunderstand this, but this is trust. If you were lupi, you could gut me. So, in the meantime, think like I’m a really big dog.
