The Royal Academy

After a long and stiff journey, we finally arrived. It was dusk and the crickets were chirping. The academy was a huge white building. It had navy trims and some silver and gold designs. Inside was spacious as well. A maid stumbles in from a hallway and bows.

"Hello, welcome to the Royal Academy. I assume you must be Caden?" I nod. "Allow me to show you your room." She smiles and heads off through second hallway on the right, and takes a left. The third door leads to my room; a large room kept elegant, but simple.

"If you have any questions, you may ask me, Iris, the head maid, or you can ask your personal maid, May. She will also be in charge of helping you personalize your room for your stay. Now, if you have nothing to ask, I shall go inform her of your arrival." Iris turn away fast and runs out the door.

I look over the full sized bed and the matching wooden dresser and wardrobe. A large, wooden desk across the room from the wardrobe. I couldn't figure out how the room could be much better. The room was already about the size of my house, and so clean I felt bad stepping in. It isn't long until my maid, May, walks into the room. She bows and greets me, "Hello, Master Caden."

"Hello, May. Just Caden is fine, thank you." The thought of anyone calling me master is weird to me. I am already in a higher position than I'm used to.

"Okay, Caden. Now then, on to room decor..." She starts getting excited and goes over the possibilities with me. She seems more excited about making everything over the top, and I, if anything, just want simple things. Feeling bad, ruining her energy, I go for a compromise. She can add whatever bed or floor decorations. I went for a study lamp and a night stand, along with the necessary books and supplies. By the time she was done, a couple hours had passed. While she was decorating, I took a shower in my personal bathroom.

The cream cotton bedding become a dusted green silk with black and silver embroidered designs. She also added some matching throw pillows and a grey coverlet. There was also now a canopy on the canopy bed. There was now a large thin dark rug and a small dark grey lamp on the desk. It was a nice room. I looked in the wardrobe to see what options I had. The clothes in there were of different colors, but pretty much all professional attire. Some of which are full-blown suits and some lighter stuff. In the drawers were my (still fancy) pajamas. They would be good enough for now. I put them on and jumped into bed.

It was hard to grasp that I was a candidate to become the future king of Ellesmere. Honestly, it was hard to even grasp being above a waiter in a restaurant in the poorer part of the town I was from. It felt so unrealistic, so much like a fairy tale. Yet here I was, living it myself, beside only a couple others. Even if only for the opportunity, I was so thankful. I smiled.
