18 Traitors, Part Two

My grandfather is dead, I've never known him." She nodded, "That may be true but I have on good account he was working on an anti-poison magic that should heal her." He passed back and forth, "So, what do you need me to do?" She smiled, "Simple, follow me. Turner watch the Princess"

She led him through a door on the other side of the room. It was lined with paper, scrolls, and maps. She began sorting through them, "We love doing business with nobles. For one they pay good, but sometimes they pay in other means. All the maps and building plans in this room have been donated to are... cause. If I wanted I could break into just about any noble house in the city."

She pulled out an old yellowed scroll, "Including yours."  Alex looked on as she rolled it out on a large table in the middle of the room, "You need to get your grandfather's notes. More than likely he kept them on himself when he was laid to rest." Alex shook his head, "In my situation I doubt I could walk in. But we do have the advantage of time. Last I heard my father was still in the East."

She nodded, "Then that makes things easier. There is another reason I'm sending you as well, to get your leash." Alex looked at her, "Sorry." She looked at him, "Figures you wouldn't know about it, your father wouldn't want you knowing about it." She sat down in a chair, "Wene a mage is born into a Noble family close to the castle they take some of that child's blood and fill it in a vial. The head mage of the family can then control your magic at will." Alex looked at the map, it was a detailed sketch of his family estate.

"So, if my father gets his hands on it, he could turn me off." She nodded, "Precisely, I already have a route under the sewers picked out for you." He pointed at the old map, "There's an escape entrance in the sewers here, that's what we're aiming for?" "Yes, it leads directly to your family's crypt. Inside should be a room where your blood is stored. You'll have to find it."

He nodded, "When can your man be ready." She looked at him, "As soon as you are." She stood up and rolled up the scroll, "... I want you to know something. I have been sending people all over the City to look for information on the Princess. What we found was disturbing." He looked at her, "Apparently, one of the Alfronese assassin squads have infiltrated the city."

He stood up, "..." She pushed the scroll in its place, "They could have been behind this whole thing." "Do you think they could have infiltrated the Guards?" She looked at him, "It seems like you have some information for me, could you explain to me just how you came upon the princess" He explained the last couple of days to her, "This Arnold, from what I can find he was assigned the position not long ago. It's possible he could be behind this, I will have my men look into it."

Before they walked out Alex asked her a question, "The king is the supporter of the people, including us lowly thugs. He has passed laws that outlawed incarcerated work service, made jail terms significantly shorter, and above all else feed the poor. He is held in high respects here, and we consider him our ally." As she turned and flipped her hair he caught a glimpse of a mark on her neck, the mark of a slave.

"You were a slave?" She stopped, "Long ago, yes. But thanks to the king, I was freed, fed, and protected." She turned, "The nobles are more prone to give up their king." She walked out and Alex followed her feeling better about the legitimacy of his help. Turner was looking at Rose, "Hey, is this normal." Jasmine and Alex hurried to the bed.

There were dark lines forming at the edges of her lips, "Jasmine?" "I know," she said as she raised her hands over her. "The magic is growing stronger, we're out of time. Marlo!" The man from before walked in, "You called?" She didn't break concentration, "Get Roddy and tell him to meet Alex at the Sewer entrance, and hurry." he nodded and closed the doors.

"I can keep the magic held back until you come back, but know that I can't do it forever. Go and tell the others of the plan, and Marlo will get you once Roddy is ready." Alex leaned down and touched her shoulder, "This will help." He infused a little of his magic into her and she breathed in, "Your magic, it's… quiet interesting."

"Im leaving her In your care, the three I braught with me are trustworthy, you can rely on them." She nodded and concentrate on Rose again, but her purple shine was brighter. He turned and hurried through through the doors, "Hold on, Rose."
