Building Trust.

While according to Luth who was now talking just a bit more to Heron, most of the younger knights were all for magic being made legal, he also confided to the young king that the older knights were still rather set in their ways.

After saying that Luth grumbled something on how the senior knights saw Aklane and Kion as troublemakers. He sounded defensive of his idols.

Heron had been surprised by the fact that there was such a substantial amount of young knights who were sympathetic to the plight of magic users in Amriel. He was not at all surprised that it was nonexistent among the elder generation.

Good news was that their influx of books that put magic users in a good light was making some progress it seemed – at least more was being sold. And he had ordered the knights not to bother cracking down on them – perhaps coming across as uncaring to the older knights. The younger ones seemed largely unconcerned – probably cause most of them had already known.

While he had not yet been invited to any of their meetings, it did seem as if the K. F. C. P. A. had come to trust him fairly well.

He glanced at Luth who had been talking to him, but had now fallen silent – gazing almost pensively out the window. Clearing his throat, Heron asked a question that had occurred to him.

"So what will your club do once I get magic legalized?"

"Probably disband." He paused. "Or that is, probably make a new club. I won't be in it though."

"Why not?"

"I'm only in it now because of Aklane. And it would feel more uncomfortable for me if it reformed."

"You and Aklane do seem pretty close."

"He's covered for me a lot." Luth said after a moment, looking down. "And we've known each other since childhood."

Heron wondered what Luth meant by covered for him, but didn't ask. There was always something about Luth that bothered Heron but he wasn't quite sure what it was. Nor did he really care too much either. Whatever it was didn't seem too important.

So he just nodded.

He didn't care what Luth was hiding. The young man was a reliable knight so he figured whatever it was couldn't be too bad. Maybe he was a closet magic user. Heron could understand if that was the case that Luth probably didn't want to talk about it.

Luth took his leave and Elswyth came in. She smiled at the knight as she passed and came over to perch on Heron's desk.

"There is a chair you know." Heron remarked, knowing even as he said it that Elswyth would brush it off.

She, as he could have predicted, merely shrugged, and glossed over the statement. "Talking to Luth again?"

"Coordinating. I think the country's almost ready."

"That's good." She brushed his hair out of his face with a smile. "It's going fairly smoothly huh?"

"Having half the knights working with me does help. I do wonder why they all decided they wanted to see magic legalized. Enough to start a whole club."

Elswyth laughed, "Whatever. It's a good thing for you anyway, right?"

"Yep." He agreed and leaned back in his chair. He looked up at his friend with a grin. "Makes me think it won't be too hard to change things around here."

"Well, be confident, but not too complacent." She said with a flick to his forehead.

He rubbed his forehead with a sigh. She was right though. It would be bad to be too complacent. If something went wrong he needed to be ready to deal with it. He really could use some advice from another king. After things settled down maybe he could get some.

I've been in a bit of a creative slump all last week. Still am in it a bit, I'm afraid.

On another note, Luth is a really odd character for me to write.
