102 Recording session with Twilight

In both lives, Jun always had a thing for mixed Koreans or exotic beauties. It was one of the main reasons he liked Twice. Back then, it was just four of them but now, it is six. It was incredibly difficult for Jun to calm himself.

Fortunately for him, none of the girls are talking type, well, atleast, in front of their manager and YG.

Because of that, Jun managed to keep his cool and gave the lead sheets with lyrics to their manager. He prepared those earlier while waiting.

Everyone goes through music training as a trainee. So, he thought they would be able to read music notes but four of them only have this clueless expression on their faces. Only Lisa, Siyeon, and Mina looked comfortable.

All of a sudden, Jun's excitement dropped a lot. Are these only fairy dolls or something? Jeongyeon didn't even take much time to get those lines and she was put aside.

But then again, most of the idols focus more on their dancing skills rather than singing skills as they have fewer parts to sing and they could just manage it with lip sync. The only thing they need to do well is the recording.

Even there, if their singing skill is below par, producers like him will autotune them and add other effects to make it sound good to the audience. Jun couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

Perhaps, YG had also recognized the problem. He cleared his throat and said, "Han Sung-Jun, can you give a rough demo for everyone with the finished music?"

"Me?" Jun was a little bit surprised but complied with the request. However, he didn't sing it because he assumed that they might be overwhelmed by it even if he doesn't activate 'Voice of Angel.' Who knows… they might even lose confidence. And that isn't good for them. Not to mention, there are cameras around.

So, instead, he took the seat before the piano after connecting the Pendrive to the computer.

Looking at YG who appeared to be a bit confused, Jun said, "Please play it and keep the volume a bit minimum."

Then, he looked at others, "please take a seat and pay attention to the music and the notes."

Everyone understood what he was trying to do.

As the girls took their seats, YG played the music.

The music started to play in the speakers. Right from the start, the grooviness in the music hit them deeply. It was clear that they liked it. Some of them felt like it would sound better if the music is louder but that isn't the objective here.

It was then that Jun started playing the piano in place of lyrics.

At first, Jun thought that he did great but only later, did he realize that it didn't impact anything.

So, in the end, Jun chose the long route, the one that is filled with patience. It was by explaining line by line and then, telling them to sing it back to him like how a music teacher does to elementary students.

Fortunately, the girls were diligent and weren't embarrassed to be taught like this. And YG also told the cameramen to stop recording it.

In the end, the process of learning took over four hours. During this time, Jun also got the opportunity to check everyone's vocals before dividing the parts.

Manager Oh, the seven idols, and even YG were taken aback by Jun's language prowess. While explaining, he fluently spoke Japanese with Mina; Mandarin with Yuqi, Tzuyu, and Yiren; and English with Lisa and Nancy.

His intentions of showing off are a bit obvious but then again, he left a good impression on some of them, especially on Mina for she was the lone Japanese singer in the group. She felt a little bit special when only she could understand what he was saying.

As it was around lunchtime, YG said them to return to the studio after two hours. Jun also agreed with it.

"Thank you…"

Once they were out of his sight, Jun collapsed onto the couch in tiredness before realizing that he wasn't alone in the room. As he sat straight as if nothing happened, YG sent away the audio engineer and took his seat, "Jun-ah, not everyone in the world has the same musical talent like you. Some are good at vocals, some are at dancing while some are only suited for visuals.

But, it is the job of the producers to make the song, a hit. That's why they are more precious to the companies than the idols and are also paid more.

Thankfully, the girls are rookies and have good personalities. When dealing with senior artists, even if they are skilled, their intervention in your work and their laziness will make your work even harder.

If you want to become a top producer, you also need to adapt to all kinds of situations and deal accordingly. I just want to bear it in mind while doing the work. Anyway, you did a good job. You completely looked like a mentor there…"

"I understand," Jun nodded and then, let out a sigh. He was close with YG. So, he wouldn't hesitate to speak his mind freely, "But Hyung, I think it would have been better if we have recorded it through Jeongyeon-ssi and let them hear it and practice."

"Hmm, I guess a part of the fault lies on our side too for just informing you abruptly without giving any information. It was supposed to be a third or fourth track. So, I guess CEO Hwang might not have thought too much about it." YG replied. He then added, "But then again, I think it deserves to be the main track. Let's finish this and see what to do with it. Anyway, let's go. I'll treat you to lunch, outside."

When YG gave praise to Jun's work, the latter remembered about his remaining songs waiting to be released, and asked, "Hyung, do all the songs finalized for Twilight?"

"Hmm? No… Why?" YG asked.

Jun answered, "I have written more songs. Two of them have been finished, already. I can prepare a demo if you are interested."

"No, not now," YG flatly rejected this time, not because he wasn't interested but it is because of taking Jun's mental health into consideration since he has so much to do. Burdening him with more work will not be good. At least, that's what he thought.

But, since Jun might not like the answer, YG thought of something and explained, "it won't be good for other songwriters if you take two songs when you are still a rookie. Not to mention, there are already so many songs available. Instead of spending time on it, you should use it to rest as you might not get much time."

Jun thought for a bit and agreed to it. It's not like he is in any rush to produce songs. After all, he only earns 4 million won from each song. And if the company is really in a need of any songs, he believed they will contact him.
