28 Feeling the Darkness

"Close your eyes and walk in the darkness; I'll move through flat places, so there's no need for you to try to see where you're walking," Anton said moments before entering the forest.

To move in the darkness, there were versatile techniques, and one was to slide on the ground, not directly but very low, below the average height one makes when lifting a foot to walk. Moreover, being in the dark, Jessie's eye iris would open wider, and she could see a bit more than she actually thought she could see.

"On the ground, there are traps; be careful not to fall into one set by those people," Jessie said with a whispering voice on the way. She was not nervous now but had gradually merged with the darkness and fully trusted Anton, who was leading the best path they could take.

"Yes, we've avoided some on the way." Anton nodded after hearing Jessie's words; he knew he was dealing with natural human hunters, so it was evident that there would be traps on the way.

"This place is where they killed a friend." Anton murmured as he looked at all the blood among the bushes. It was a surprise that Jessie and Chris managed to escape from these people. Perhaps it was due to something or simply the luck they had in avoiding being captured.

"Do you know if they kill them or end up kidnapping people?"

"Men are killed, and women are taken alive to the cabin." Jessie, who had been in the cabin, responded casually.

Understanding this, he knew exactly what had happened. It turns out that Chris offered himself as bait so that Jessie and her friend could escape. However, the monsters were determined to find the girls, so after knowing that Chris was just bait, they abandoned the idea of hunting him and instead followed Jessie, where they finally caught her friend.

It could be said that they had experienced the biggest nightmare of their lives firsthand. Many people had fallen victim to these monsters, so it was a good decision to eliminate them. Being hunted like cattle is not the best feeling; many don't have the sense that the world is in a certain way in some situations, and many can't do anything to change it.

Anton then remembered how he managed his company in his bold life. No matter how many tried to stop him, none could really do something, and this was not the fault of his consumers but of himself, who didn't want to change his habits. In the end, knowing that only two had escaped the clutches of these serial killers, Anton knew that it was destiny for him to be here to take care of this problem.

Anton, who heard Jessie's instructions based on what she remembered, understood where they should go. So, after seeing that there was no one around, he whispered, "We have to continue; let's go!"

"Yes, I'm right behind you," Jessie said, following Anton, who seemed to navigate well in the darkness. She was full of anger, wanting to be of some help in eliminating those damned ones who killed her friends and, if possible, killing one with her own hands.

Looking at the ground, Anton noticed there were footprints in a certain direction, so he increased his speed to get closer as soon as possible, delving deeper into the dark forest.

In a brief moment, they arrived at a lake; the moon's reflected light provided much more visibility to Jessie, who felt more comfortable. The scene was beautiful, but Anton had no intention of appreciating it. He looked at an open space at the edge of the lake, where several tattered tents were set up, and there were some bloodstains that could be seen at a glance.

"Is this where they were going to camp?"

Jessie nodded after seeing the lake; this was the destination of their journey. But seeing those tents completely filled with blood made her very sad. After all, she knew that their fate was sealed from the moment they started the journey.

"Where was the direction you ran away in the first place?" Anton put aside his thoughts and asked, focusing on what he wanted to know.

"Through that way," Jessie said, pointing in the direction where the cabin was.

Looking at the place, Anton led the way. It had been a while since he regretted his choice, so he found the small clues he needed and headed towards the area where those mutated people were.

Moving in the darkness, he could do it thanks to the illumination of his eyes; the faith energy was spent very slowly, but he could see in the dark, which made it easier for him to move around.

As they approached the cabin, they found several traces that brought them closer and closer to the place where those people were. At that moment, even without Jessie guiding him, Anton easily found his destination by following the bloodstains on the ground and the drag marks suspected of being left behind when taking people against their will.

At that moment, they reached a large open space without a trace of trees around them. They could immediately see a cabin with campfires lit in the surroundings; there were numerous junk cars and many broken things around. All together and in this place, I had the feeling that this place was absolutely terrifying, as if technology had stopped advancing here and everything that entered did not come out again.

But in Anton's eyes, this was terrifying. Each junk car was from a victim who had been killed by these people without any punishment.

"Yes, this is the place," Jessie said as she tightened her grip on her pistol as if she feared it slipping from her hands.

"Here live those besieging and where many kidnapped people are possibly held."

Upon hearing these words, Anton nodded and, taking his rifle that he had loaded all this time, approached stealthily towards that cabin. When he hid in a corner composed of junk cars and trash, he could smell a clear aroma of decay.

"Don't speak; wait here at this moment," Anton said as he advanced among the abandoned cars.

Jessie nodded, stayed behind, and watched Anton's back as he advanced without any fear.

At that moment, being ahead, Anton took a piece of junk and, feeling its weight, threw it forcefully towards the cabin's entrance.

Here, the important thing is that Anton is in the darkness, and the enemy is in the light. Having this advantage, he was sure he could deal with the enemy without any problems.

Crack! Very soon, the junk crashed into the cabin door; this wooden door was easily shattered by the force with which Anton threw it, which was actually very heavy.

That blow was very strong, and in an instant, voices were heard inside the cabin.

"Snivix flangor vorbul, trazix plarbul krintar."

"Jorvix zantrol flivix, Krondar Jarnix snarbul."

Anton didn't know what his targets were talking about, but there was probably a meaning behind that type of communication.

At that moment, two deformed human figures came out of the cabin with bows and arrows in their hands. Looking at those killers, one seemed to have red skin, but Anton didn't focus on any details and aimed at the head of the first figure.

"What are you looking at in peace?"

Bang!

The burst of shots suddenly echoed from the surroundings, confusing the people.

At that very moment, the head of the first figure that had come out exploded into a thousand pieces; the remains scattered around, and its lifeless body fell to the ground before the confused eyes of the other figure.

"With this, there are already three..."
