President Li, Her Ladyship Doesn't Deserve to Die

Jake was sprawled on his bed, scrolling through social media feeds that seemed to blur into a monotonous stream of memes, selfies, and food pics. His cramped apartment was dimly lit, the flickering bulb doing little to lift the gloom that had settled over him.

Chapter 9: Li Jingshen's Fury Unleashed

Shen Zhichu had seen Li Jingshen pissed before, but he always seemed so cold and aloof, even when he was mad. But today, he was like a raging inferno, something she never even imagined.

What set him off like this? Was it because of the divorce? Or did he think she was hiding someone, cheating just like him?

Li Jingshen didn't answer. He slumped on the couch, shooting her a sideways glance. His red eyes made him look somewhat pitiful, like a rabbit.

"Why bring up divorce all of a sudden?"

Given his tone, anyone would think she was the one cheating and being abusive.

Shen Zhichu almost burst into laughter. She sat up, clutching her neck, "Weren't you dying to divorce me, Li Jingshen? To be with Xia Mingyue without sneaking around? I'm giving you what you want, and you look like I just kicked your puppy."

"I asked why YOU want a divorce!" Li Jingshen raised his voice.

"What else? I'm sick of this marriage, I don't like you anymore, and I don't want to be Xia Mingyue's blood bank. Is that enough?" Her eyes were bloodshot, maybe from crying.

She glared at him fearlessly, as if trying to see through his skin to find out what his heart was made of. How come it never warmed up even after four years?

She gave a bitter laugh, "If that's not enough, just think whatever you want."

Li Jingshen's mind was filled with dirty thoughts. What else could he think? That she was cheating? How else could she suddenly not love him?

He never cared for her feelings, but he knew how much she loved him. And now, she was just throwing it all away. He felt empty, like he lost something.

His eyes darkened, and his anger flared up again. His eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed her collar, "You've been up to a lot while I was gone, haven't you? Divorce is just an excuse, you've got someone else, don't you? Was that lawyer one of them? You're such a slut, one is probably not enough."

He yanked her up and threw her on the floor, looking down at her with contempt.

Shen Zhichu felt like throwing up the milk she had in the morning. She was usually gentle, but she wasn't a pushover. His words made her blood boil.

"You're right, I've got someone else!" she spat out through gritted teeth. "What, you can have affairs but I can't?"

Li Jingshen slapped her so hard she saw stars.

"Say that again!" he roared.

That slap shattered all her illusions. She wiped the blood from her mouth, her eyes closed. She didn't want to waste any more of her life on him.

"Li Jingshen, four years is long enough. I don't have another four years to waste on you. I can't wait anymore."

She sounded like someone on their deathbed. He didn't get it. He sneered, "Got caught and now you want to fly away with your lovers? You forced me into this marriage, Shen Zhichu! You think it's that easy to leave?"

Shen Zhichu found it amusing, "Don't worry, you'll get your share in the divorce. I won't leave you high and dry."

Like he cared for her money! His company made more in a day than her family did in ages. Even if she handed him her entire family fortune, he wouldn't bat an eye.

He always took what he wanted, he didn't need hand outs.

Li Jingshen laughed coldly and lunged at her, tearing at her clothes.

"What the hell are you doing?!" She didn't need to guess what was about to happen.

He leaned down to kiss her neck, biting her hard enough to draw blood. She gasped in pain, tears streaming down her face.

She tried to kick him, but he pinned her down. He smirked, "You made such a scene, isn't this what you wanted? To keep me here?"

"I didn't make a scene! I called you here for a divorce!" she fought back.

He hated the word "divorce". He silenced her with a kiss.

Tears streamed down her face. She bit him hard, tasting blood. He winced but didn't let go.

She felt sick from the taste of blood in her mouth. She was afraid she might throw up.

Li Jingshen was oblivious, his mind consumed by the thought of her with someone else. He was like a wild animal, wanting to tear her apart.

He had never been kind to her. Her tears only fueled his rage, like a demon crawling out of hell.

She had lost weight since he last saw her. Her waist was so thin it felt like it might snap. She was still stunningly beautiful, even emaciated.

She was shaking, cold sweat pouring down her as she coughed against his shoulder.

A drop of blood fell from her mouth onto his black suit. He didn't notice. Her eyes were hazy as she reached up to wipe it off.

He gently brushed her messy hair, then gripped her jaw tightly, his voice icy, "Had enough? Still want other men?"

"…"

Her eyes were red and teary, her gaze empty. It was like she didn't hear him.

He caressed her face tenderly, something dark and deep in his eyes, something fading away, "Don't let your mind wander where it shouldn't."

"Li Jingshen, who's the one with the wandering mind? You or me?" she choked out through the pain.

"Aren't you in love with Xia Mingyue? Give her a title by divorcing me! Or did you fall in love with me?"

He laughed sarcastically, "Shen Zhichu, the only reason I haven't divorced you is your blood. Did you really think I'd care for you just because we've been intimate? Dream on!"

Her heart turned to ashes. She had cared for this marriage, but he trampled on her sixteen years of feelings, stomping her heart into the mud. She had been reluctant, but now all she wanted was to be free of him. She could live without him.
