Grandpa Sanders once told me that death has as much power as we give it.

He said if we embrace the inevitable then everything becomes a slow dance we control.

He said death is powerful because we let it…we give it fuel and watch it burn us down.

He said Emily, take that power from it and then death becomes just another thing by the corner.

It loosens its grip on you and you will be finally free, little girl….free as a bird.

Take hold of your fate, Emily, he said!

Take back your power, he said

It's just a transition to something greater, he said!

It's just death!

Well, grandpa, sorry but dying kinda sucks!

And we can make it a poem or make peace with it but at the end of the day, it just…sucks!

Which is second only to watching someone you love die.

I wonder if he felt what I felt when I got down from that boat, will his perception change?
