1 Chapter 1: A girl like Emily.

Chapter 1: A girl like Emily.

When I was five years old I had this small German shepherd dog briefly behind my family's back.

I called her Vengeance.

I sometimes imagine that she was my wolf and she found me earlier than intended.

I only had Vengeance for one week before Uncle Phil made me give her back.

She was crushed two hours later by my grandfather's Van. Grandpa was sorry about it. It wasn't intentional and I understood.

Just like I understood that if Vengeance hadn't tried to come back to me, she would probably live longer than she did.

I knew it then and I know it now that I am cursed. I am a magnet for the unusual. And I was just rejected by my best friend.

I waited for the pain that comes with severing a bond, especially one as strong as the one that Owen and I shared but it never did.

Good! At last, one good thing came out of not having a wolf…good!

Everyone in black silver pack knows that the pain that came with severing the bond the moon goddess herself created was worse than any pain a werewolf had ever seen.

There was a tale of an Alpha wolf who wailed for six days straight after severing such a bond. If the pain could break an Alpha then Emily Sanders stood no chance whatsoever but like I said before…good. No wolf meant no pain whatsoever.

"What are you doing here, Child?"

I knew that voice. I turned around quickly to verify. I was right! It was grandpa.

I fled into his outstretched arms, accepting the comfort he offered but then it dawned on me. Grandpa was dead!

Does that mean I died because of the severed bond? Good! I didn't want to live in a world that strongly objected to my existence.

I was better off in the arms of my beloved dead grandfather who adored me during his lifetime.

"What are you doing here, Amara?"

I smiled. It was only grandpa that called me by my middle name. I missed that. I hugged him again.

"I missed you grandpa"

"You have to go back, Child. My Amara is not a weakling who died from a severed bond"

I tried to push his words out of my head as I heard a bark behind me. It was vengeance. She was bigger and fiercer.

"Come here, girl!. I see you followed grandpa to the afterlife" I played with Vengeance and ignored my grandfather's plea to go back.

"Emily Amara Sanders! Look at me when I am talking to you!"

I turned around instantly. Grandpa was in his wolf form and he was howling at me for my self imposed deafness.

"Yes, Beta Sanders" I called him by his former title before he was stripped after my birth.

"Go back, Emily"

"I don't want to. Here it is easier…" I tried to hide my tears by burying my face in his fur. "He rejected me, Grandpa. He is Owen white and I am Emily Sanders!. Everyone in black silver pack knows our story. He is the Alpha's son and I am his wolfless best friend. Wasn't our bond written by the moon goddess herself?"

I thought that after explaining it to grandpa that he would let me stay but the stubborn old man wouldn't hear of it.

"He broke it. Take the pain, live the pain and recover. You are a Sanders, girl! Act like it! Now, go back"

I started walking away when I heard Grandpa's voice in my head.

"There is my brave girl"

I turned around to see him one last time, if he thought I could do it then I will.

"Goodbye, Beta Sanders"

"Emily, wait, tell Eloise that…."

Grandpa was about to give me a message for my mother but everything became brighter and I was hearing voices around me.

Then my eyes opened and I was back at the Alpha's point.

I tried to lie still but then the first bout of pain ripped through me like firecrackers, consuming every single part of my body.

"Ahhhh!" I yelled on top of my voice.

And I tried to breathe through it. I guess no wolf didn't mean no pain.

I could hear my mother telling people away from me. Then I heard his voice and I forgot about my pain for a moment.

"What is wrong with her?" Owen yelled at the Alpha.

I saw Alpha Noah approach me and touched my head.

"Poor thing! She is burning up. The severing is difficult for a werewolf with an actual wolf, because the human and the beast both shares the pain but with Emily, she will experience the pain twice as much because she has no wolf. It's normal, Owen. She will be better in a few days" Alpha Noah turned around and yelled for his second to come to him.

"Beta Mateo! Get the girl to the pack's hospital. Everyone else go home!"

"Yes, Alpha"

I saw as everyone dispersed leaving behind the Alpha, his Beta, his son and Luna.

I saw as Owen came closer to me to lift me up but I mustered all of my strength and I yelled at him on top of my voice.

"Get away from me, traitor!"

(Mama!)

I searched for my mother in my head.

(I am here, Emily. Mama's here. Everything will be fine)

"Ahhhh!" Another bout of pain ripped through me again. I scream louder than before.

(I am so sorry, Emily girl!)

Wait! What was Owen doing in my head? Closing my eyes, I severed the private link we created as children that allowed us to come and go in each other's mind.

(Take me away from here, Mama. It hurts!)

I felt the feel of Mateo's arms as he lifted me up like a feather and tried to take me to the hospital.

(Mama, please….)

"Give her to me, Beta Mateo"

I saw my mother confront the strongest Beta in Astoria. Her eyes flashing with anger and claws ready for a fight if it comes to it.

"She needs a hospital, Eloise" it was the Alpha's voice.

"She is my daughter. I want her back!" My mother demanded.
