1 Chapter 1: The Gods of Vengeance and Love

The color red.

That was all he saw for a while.

His name was Zeus, and while it was not the name given to him at birth, it was the name most people knew him by.

He knew he was dead, he knew he couldn't save her.

The only thing going through his mind were the final moments of his life where his precious sister was executed in front of him, the look of complete fear in her eyes, and all the ways in which he would rip the man responsible to shreds in the most gruesome way possible.

Zeus knew it was too late for such things as his life was over, but his rationality had long gone out the proverbial window.

He didn't even realize that despite being dead, he was still conscious and thinking about all the ways of torture he was taught using them on the target of his vengeance.

Zeus didn't know how long he had been like this, he didn't care, only the thoughts of vengeance were occupying his mind.

So much so he didn't notice the 2 other entities in the space he was in, watching him with great interest.

An unknown amount of time passed before one of them final spoke

"He's a perfect candidate!"

The remark finally snapped Zeus out of his single train of thought as he napped back to whatever reality he was in.

He immediately realized that he wasn't completely dead as he was still thinking and could see his surroundings. He tried to move his body only to find out he couldn't before the truth sunk in, he didn't have one.

Putting that fact quickly aside and ignoring the fact that he could still 'see' despite having no head or eyes, his focus snapped to the 2 other entities in this space.

Both of them looked like humans but Zeus could tell they were not, he didn't know how but it was just a feeling he couldn't explain.

He couldn't describe their appearance even if he wanted to, every time Zeus tried to focus on it, he just felt like he was looking at an ethereal fog.

That being said, there was one thing he could describe and that was the feeling he got from looking at them

One of them gave him a feeling of pure love. He couldn't tell if it was the love a mother has for a child or the love shared between two partners, it was just pure love.

The other gave a much more sinister feeling making him feel a range of emotions, the most prominent of which was rage.

"Who are you?" asked Zeus

"Well lad, This here is the Goddess of Love, while I myself and the God of Vengeance," The sinister one said. "And as you should've realized, you are dead."

Although Zeus already knew this, he still frowned hearing it.

"Why am I here?"

The Goddess of Love spoke up, "Well it's quite simple my child, you brought yourself here. For a mortal to find themselves in the presence of a God after they die, they need 2 things. First is something that allows you to keep your soul intact after death. Usually this is an artifact, physique or bloodline, but in a very rare case, it is an unbreakable will just like yours"

Zeus listened intently while she continued.

"Just that is not enough to summon a God, in order to do that, the second thing you need is intense emotions. What emotions you feel will summon the respective god"

Zeus kept silent while processing what he had been told and was able to gather a few things.

'Hmm, they mentioned artifacts and bloodlines, such things don't exist on earth but they do in those light novels I'd been told about, that must mean that these gods watch over multiple worlds, some of which have fantasy elements.

'As for the gods I managed to summon with my emotions, it makes sense, my desire to avenge my sister was all I could think about.'

Zeus finally decided to break the silence.

"So what now?"

The God of Vengeance chimed in this time, "Well the reward for getting this far is of course to grant your dying wish"

Zeus's eyes widened and started shouting "So that means I can go back? What are you waiting for, I can save her, let me go…"

"Not so fast, lad." The God of Vengeance interrupted him "Where is the fun in just sending you back? That wouldn't be very entertaining for us now would it?

"First you must understand that each God has their own way of granting a soul's wish, and since your primary wish is for revenge, you gotta do it my way!"

Although Zeus still couldn't make out their appearance, he could somehow feel the Vengeance God had a sinister smile upon his face.

"So what do I have to do to 'entertain' you" Zeus said with a hint of sarcasm

"Well like I said, it would be no fun to just send you back moments before her death where you know everything that's about to happen and use those wonderful skills of yours to put a stop to it. So what I like to do is give those who summon me a fun little opportunity.

"As you have probably gathered there are a myriad of worlds out there, with new ones created everyday. Among those worlds are beings/items/spells/skills anything you can think of that allow you to travel between said worlds as well as manipulate time.

"So what I offer you my lad, is the opportunity to be sent to one of those worlds, and use whatever means necessary to gain the power to travel back to your revenge point. And along the way, pick up anything that can help you in taking that revenge in the most glorious way possible.

"Now doesn't that sound fun."

Zeus contemplated God's words before turning to the other entity in the room. "So whats your role in all this"

"Usually, My reward to those who summon me is much simpler, as I simply reward them by reuniting them with the one they love and allow them to stay together forever.

"Sadly for you, this would obviously clash with the reward Ol' Vengeance here has for you, and since your feelings for vengeance were greater than that of love, he does get priority

"But fret not, I will not leave you empty handed, I will help you through whatever world you go to and as a bonus, if you succeed in getting your revenge and reuniting with the one you love, I will allow you to stay together forever, even after you die again"

Zeus couldn't help but frown as his hope for the Love Goddess to help him avoid the journey the Vengeance God would send him on disappeared.

He took a deep breath and ran through all the possible outcomes of the choice in front of him as he had learnt to do when presented with any choice he faced in his line of work.

"What kind of worlds are out there, and will I be able to choose the one I go to?" Zeus asked, probing for more information.

"There are a near infinite number of worlds out there, some filled with swords and magic, some full of immortal beings immersed in martial arts and cultivation, there are even worlds based on the fictional universes that your own world creates, such as many versions of the Marvel multiverse and even anime worlds like the One Piece or Naruto." The God of Vengeance replied.

"And as for choosing the world yourself, of course I will give you that option if you desire, but know that if that world has no methods of dimension and time travel, you will be trapped there with no way to accomplish your goal.

"Of course you can leave the choice to me and I will guarantee to send you to a world with those methods, but who knows how difficult it could be to use them."

This information surprised Zeus as he started thinking about potential worlds he knew.

'Of the fictional worlds he mentioned, One Piece and Naruto are not on the table as there is nothing powerful enough to help me, sure there might be a Devil Fruit that has time and space powers but the power level of that world is too small to affect the boundaries of the universe, and I'd have to find that fruit first

'The Marvel multiverse could be an option as there are many cosmic beings and powerful entities that would probably be able to help me, but those beings will not help me for nothing, and since I don't know where my starting point will be, reaching those beings in a lifetime may be impossible'

Zeus continued to ponder as he asked another question "What will my starting point be in these worlds, will I go there as I am now?"

"The only thing you will keep are your memories and skills from your past life, when we send you over, your soul will be transferred into the body of a recently deceased mortal, but that body will always be an intelligent species that matches your original one, so in your case, a humanoid species. No need to worry about being transferred into a recently swatted fly" The God of Vengeance happily replied again, seemingly enjoying the sight of Zeus's brain working overtime to make his decision.

After hearing this, Zeus paused as he thought of all the worlds he had enough knowledge of to give him a significant advantage if he were to be sent there with his memories. He went through hundreds of fictional stories, remembering everything he ever read/watched, before his train of thought stopped abruptly and he wanted to slap himself for not thinking of it sooner.

It was a world he knew almost everything about as it was the one thing his sister was obsessed with and told him everything about it. This knowledge would give him a significant advantage on his journey and he knew for a fact that this world possessed the methods he needed to get home and reap his reward.

He looked up at the Gods in front of him, "I've decided…"
