Years Gone By Part-3!

The very next day, they were walked to school by their mom and dad. The school wasn't far from where they lived. Roy and his family lived in Cherrygrove City, they were a middle-class family so they lived really well.

"You guys be careful, I wish you little guys much fortune on your exam." Their dad, Royce said. He had a day off today, so he walked them to school with their mom.

"Thanks, dad, we'll definitely pass our test and not disappoint you guys." Troy nodded and said seriously.

"That's right, we'll pass for sure." Roy also agreed.

"Yep! No problem." Diana said with a smile.

The trio blended in with the other kids walking into the school and disappeared.

"We've been saving money for them and their journey's in the future. I'm hoping to give the three of them something good before we send them off." Royce sighed. He had been saving money up to buy items for them on their journey.

Diane had been secretly stacking up on some Poké Balls, Great Balls, and a few Ultra Balls. Ultra Balls weren't easy to acquire, but she managed to get a few—over the years.

"I want to buy them that Spatial Backpack, but it cost way too much. I'll try, but it would seem I'll only have enough for one of these bags." Royce shook his head bitterly. He really wanted to start his children off in the best way possible, but it wasn't easy.

"Take your time and don't push yourself. We'll figure out something, I don't have any problems opening up a restaurant to bring in more money." Diane's mom owned a restaurant in Kanto and was still alive today, and so was her business. She was contemplating if she should open up and branch here in Cherrygrove.

"Perhaps, this may be the only way to make some progress. I recently got a high raise, so I'll be making more money." Royce's eyes flash for a second before he smirked.

"Nice! Let's go home and work something out, we should come up with something before that day comes." Diane was elated and both of them went on their way.

Roy, Troy, and Diana went straight to their classrooms for testing. This wasn't an ordinary test, it could be considered an exam that tested the kid's thinking ability. In terms of memory, what they would do in certain situations, on pokemon, etc.

Roy was in the same class as his brother Troy, while his sister was stationed in another classroom.

"Hehe, I'm gonna ace this test. One day I'll be the champion of the world, looking down on everyone." A boy in green said confidently.

"Aric, you really have big dreams. Dreams that are far too big for you to ever accomplish, haha!" Another boy sneered and said.

"Lucas, don't get so full of yourself because you have a well-off family, that doesn't mean anything." Aric scoffed.

"It means a lot, that means I get to 1up everyone in the classroom," Lucas smirked and looked away—not bothering with Aric anymore.

"Hmph! Just you wait." Aric mumbled under his breath.

This classroom wasn't their everyday classroom, instead, it was a different classroom they met in.

Soon after, a woman walked into the classroom, she had blonde hair and green eyes. Her dress was green and covered with small sunflowers over it. Even her earrings were in the shape and form of some type of flower.

"Hello, everyone. I will be passing out the test today. As you've noticed, your desk have been placed far away from each other. This is to prevent cheating, anyone caught cheating and talking during the test will be failed."

The teacher said with a smile.

The room went silent and no one spoke. Roy frowned, not because of this rule but because he could gauge this teacher's personality through his eyes.

Her character wasn't good, he could even say she was a really bad person.

"Okay, let's begin, I will pass everyone's test out. The test has 200 questions and a writing portion at the end of it. Please write your name at the top and your secret student number at the top of page 1 of your test booklet."

Everyone silently nodded before the teacher grabbed a stack of booklets. Just as she was about to go and pass the test booklets around, another teacher entered the room.

This man wore thick reading classes, all the while sporting a typical office worker's white collared shirt and black pants. He wore a red tie and had a fair complexion with brown eyes. There was a small number of freckles on his cheeks and nose.

This man was Roy and everyone else in the classroom's main teacher, who taught them on a daily basis.

"Hey, everyone, I hope that you can all do well on the test. Of course, this test and other tests play a pivotal role in your future. This includes becoming a pokemon trainer or any other special field you may want to get your hands into. There will be other tests in the future, so always study and be prepared."

"I studied hard and won't fail."

"Yeah, I want to be a pokemon master, so I can't fail."

"I want to open my own daycare and become rich!"

Many students exploded into chatters among themselves, speaking enthusiastically after hearing Mr. Knowles's speech. Their confidence brewed after remembering the weight of these future tests.

"Alright everyone, settle down. Miss. Smarten is going to pass out your test booklets now." Knowles smiled and turned to the female teacher.

The room quieted down before the female teacher passed out the test booklets with a stony expression.

Their teacher simply laid out the rules before having everyone start their test.

Roy wrote his name down before turning to the first page and writing his secret student ID number. Afterward, he flipped the page and saw the first set of questions.

Each page had five questions, but the right page had another set of five questions. Thus, with each flip, you would encounter a total of 10 questions. There were even a few trick questions that Roy had to stop and think about.

Roy cruised through most of the questions except for some of the trick questions similar to question two. He did the writing part and all; it was pretty much asking him what he would do in certain scenarios.

There was no right or wrong for this part, with the only wrong answer being that—if you didn't answer at all. After answering, Roy thoroughly reviewed his answers for each question before closing his test booklet.

Roy sat back in his chair and closed his eyes with a smile. Knowles nodded when he saw that Roy was the first one done—as if he understood this and expected it.

Ms. Smarten gazed and squinted at Roy, but looked away shortly after. Roy felt a chill from that gaze, this woman was definitely dangerous in some way!

Over time, many kids began to finish their tests one at a time and shut their booklets. Roy sat there the whole time silent, then a thought ensued him. They were close to the end of the school year, so Roy wanted to ask his teacher, Mr. Knowles, a question.

Finally, everyone was done and their booklets were collected for grading later. The result would be sent to the homes of the children.

"Phew, that test was really weird and tricky. I hope I passed."

"I had a question about Rhyhorn's typing, but it said the same types but they were written in a different order." Some girl said confusingly.

Roy instantly understood that this girl may have been tricked by that trick question. He could only shake his head. Roy didn't understand why they had to put trick questions like these on the test.

"Roy, how well do you think you did?" Troy walked over and asked.

"Really good, do you think you did well? How confident are you?" Roy bounced back.

"I think I passed for sure, no problem." Troy grinned and said.

"I hope so, this is too important." There would be more tests in the future, they took a different test every year about pokemon and other educational involved subjects.

This was just a testing day, but everyone had three hours to complete their exam. Afterward, their parents would come and pick them up.

"Mom and Dad should be waiting outside for us, let's go." Troy wanted to go home and watch some live pokemon battles. At this point, Troy had become addicted to watching these and was hyped every time he viewed them.

Pokemon tournaments were like a sport and people would even place high bets on certain trainers to win. The Master Cup was the highest staking, paying, and most viewed battle cup. Right now, an Ultra Cup tournament was in session—thus Troy couldn't wait to get home and watch.

"You can go, I need to ask Mr. Knowles a question." Roy looked toward his teacher, ready to approach.

"Alright, I'll tell Mom and Dad." Troy hoped he wouldn't take too long, he wanted to get home and watched the battles. However, Troy suddenly remembered that his dad recorded these battles, so he wouldn't miss anything.

"Mr. Knowles, can I ask you a question about pokemon, it'll be quick." Mr. Knowles was erasing the chalkboard that had the rules on it.

"Huh? Roy? Ah, I saw that you were the first to finish your test." Knowles smiled and continued, "What would you like to ask? I'll answer as best as I can."

"I just want to know a bit more about a pokemon's aptitude. How does it work? Does it affect a pokemon's potential to get stronger, or...?" Roy could have asked his parents, but he figured that a teacher might know more about the subject.

"Aptitude? Ah, yes, pokemon can grow infinitely but they will require some resources for growth. The best way to get a high aptitude pokemon is through breeding." Knowles spoke clearly, adjusting his classes.

"So, aptitude has ranks, do you know what they are?" Roy had seen Red, Orange, and Light Green colors so far, but what about the others?

"The ranks for these are Red, Orange Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. The aptitude from Yellow to Purple is broken down into three sub-classes." Knowles explained what he knew carefully to Roy.

He explained the ranks as followed.

===

-Red,

-Orange,

-Shallow Yellow, Deep Yellow, Brass Yellow,

-Shallow Green, Deep Green, Emerald Green,

-Shallow Blue, Deep Blue, Sapphire Blue,

-Shallow Purple, Deep Purple, Amethyst Purple,

Roy's eyes shone brightly, so there were many aptitudes and red was lowest. This reminded him of Pokemon Go's catching difficulty from the easiest to the hardest difficulty, but vice-versa.

Knowles went on the explain that pokemon with higher aptitudes grew stronger quicker. On top of that—the pokemon on the same level with lower aptitude pokemon were stronger. Of course, if the trainer was better, he or she could dominate the higher aptitude pokemon and trainer.

"Ah, thanks a lot, my eyes have been opened," Roy said happily.

"No problem. To check your pokemon's aptitude, there are some pokemon centers that allow you to check them with a machine. Of course, there will be a fee if you wish to check their aptitude."

"Thank you, I'll be sure to remember that Mr. Knowles." Roy left the classroom and met up with his parents. They bombarded them with questions, asking them how confident they were in passing the exam.

Roy and his whole family watched the whole Ultra Cup. Two days later, they received their results and Roy passed with flying colors. He didn't get hyped or anything because he was expecting this.

However, his family was extremely happy and lively because all of them had passed. Roy, of course, had the highest score, followed by his sister and his brother afterward.

Roy sat back and smiled, as years once again began to pass him by.
