1 Chapter 1: The Beginning I

"The Nidorino begins the battles with a [Horn Attack]." The commentator shouted at the top of his lungs as he tried to describe the Pokémon battle to the audience and excite them.

"However, the Gengar jumps back."

The audience cheered as the Ghost-type dodged the attack and brought its hands together for its next move, [Hypnosis].

"There it is, the hypnosis power of a Gengar." The commentator said as a hypnotic beam was released from Gengar's tiny hands. "This could be the end of Nidorino. But wait, the trainer recalls Nidorino. Which Pokémon will he use now?"

The trainer of Nidorino takes out a Pokeball and throws it into the battlefield.

"Onix, I choose you."

"Aeron has chosen Onix as his next Pokémon. The commentator and the audience looked at the massive Onix that appeared in the field, and once again, the crow started shouting.

"Aeron."

" Aeron.."

"Wa... Aeron...

*Slap*

"Ahh"

"AERON, WAKE UP" An angry voice of a woman entered Aeron's ears, and he immediately woke up from his dreams.

"What happened"

"You overslept, and now you are late."

"What time is it?"

"It is already 8:30 when you should receive your Pokémon otherwise."

"Shit." Aeron cursed before jumping from his bed and seeing the broken Pokeball clock lying on the floor. He remembered the sensation of him holding a Pokeball. 'It was a clock, not a real Pokeball. Damn it.'

Without waiting for his mother to speak further, Aeron ran into the washroom.

"I will prepare the food; make sure you come down as soon as possible, lest you miss out on a Pokémon."

Aeron's mother, Sophia, shook her head before walking downstairs to prepare the necessary things for her son. She knew her son better than anyone else; she was sure he would be late on this important day unless she created special conditions.

She walked into the kitchen and looked at the clock that showed the time to be precisely 7:30 am.

"Is he up?" Sophia looked at her husband, who was reading a newspaper.

"He will be down really soon." She wore an apron before she started preparing breakfast.

"He can be very careless sometimes. Is it okay for him to be a trainer?"

There was concern in her voice as she talked about the path her son had chosen to walk upon.

"He has been working so hard since he was five. As parents, the best we can do is support him as much as possible. We were once his age when we went on our adventure, so why stop him?"

"You wouldn't understand a mother's heart, Ethan. You know better than anyone how hard it is to survive in the wild and cruel the "adventure" can be. I am afraid…."

Ethan just sighed at his wife's remark before rolling the newspaper and placing it on the table. He walked toward her before he hugged Sofia from behind. The best he could do now was to comfort her, lest she decide to stop Aeron from going on his journey around the region or beyond.

Sophia's eyes softened, and the duo stayed like that for who knows how long. Until…

*Cough*

"Maybe I came down at the wrong time?"

Aeron looked at his parents, who seemed startled by his arrival. Before the atmosphere could turn awkward, Ethan cleared his throat and changed the subject.

"Come, we need to talk while your mother makes breakfast." Ethan walked toward the backyard, and Arron followed after him.

Aeron's family was not extremely wealthy, but they were comfortable. Both Ethan and Sophia were once Pokémon trainers. They earned a lot of money during their journey around the Kanto region before settling in Florian Town, a small town near the outskirts of Pewter City.

Their house had six beds, five baths, and a decently built backyard.

Their son, Aeron Duskborn, had turned fifteen this year, which meant he would be getting his starter from the Academy he studied in, courtesy of the League.

Every year, the children who turned fifteen would undergo a test from the League before they officially become trainers. Depending on their performance, those who passed were given a trainer licence and a starter Pokémon, while those who failed could either retake the test once a year till they turned eighteen or catch a Pokemon for themselves.

Aeron, who scored in the top 100, was sure to get a decent Pokémon as his starter, and both Ethan and Sophia were proud of it. To rank in the top 100 among all the children in Kanto was an exceptional feat, something the two could not achieve during their time.

"Are you excited?" asked Ethan as he looked at his son's eyes filled with excitement which Aeron was having difficulty holding in.

"Of course I am." A bright smile appeared on Aeron's face as he thought about the events that would occur today.

How could he not be?

"I will finally get a Pokémon from the League and start my journey."

Ethan smiled at his son's enthusiasm before placing a hand in his pocket, taking out something, and handing it to Aeron.

"What is this?" Aeron asked while looking at the envelope in his hand.

"Money to instead have an egg than a Pokémon. Use whatever is left to buy items you need to raise your Pokémon. "

Aeron's eyes widened when he heard those words. He looked at his father, and Ethan cut him off before he could say anything. "Don't say things like it is too expensive and whatnot. We gave birth to you after knowing fully well we could take care of you. Not like I will let you off when I grow old. I will be asking you for some cash too."

Ethan winked with a smile on his face. Aeron said nothing and just held the envelope tightly in his hands. Getting a Pokémon egg than an already hatched Pokémon was a thousand times better, but one would have to pay an extra fee to get the egg from the league instead of a free Pokémon. It was not a small sum either. But since Aeron had passed the exam, he would be given a significant discount on it.

Even though Aeron knew his family was comfortable with money, the amount his father gave him would have made a dent in their savings. But he could not see even a slight hesitation in his father's eyes.

Aeron took a step forward and hugged his father.

"Thank you."

"No need for such words" Ethan hugged him back before patting Aeron's back. "We are family. Make sure you get the egg you like the most."

"Breakfast is ready!" Sophia called from inside, and the duo returned to the dining room. Sophia had already set the table for them, and she joined them. The trio talked as they enjoyed the breakfast before Aeron heard a bus horn, and he knew it was time for him to leave.

"The academy bus is here; I need to go."

"Be careful."

"Could you call me when you are home? I will take a half-day since I am excited to see what egg you choose."

Ethan and Sophia watched Aeron sit inside the bus while waving their hands. The bus immediately moved once Aeron was inside.

The League Academy provided the students with transportation if the students lived outside of the city where the League Academy was situated. Aeron took out the envelope his father gave him and opened it before taking out the check placed inside. It was worth 10,000 Pokedollars. It was enough for him to get himself a Pokemon egg and many other necessities he would need.

He took out his smartphone and opened the mobile banking app before depositing the money by scanning the code and other necessary information. Once he was done, Aeron had a balance of 12,150 Pokedollars in his bank account. The extra 2,150 was something he saved by not leisurely spending his pocket money over the years.

'I should visit Pokemart in Pewter City today.' Aeron looked forward to spending his money today. Of course, for things he needed.

Aeron placed the smartphone back in his pocket before looking outside through the window. Unlike any other day, the bus was filled with students from the academy. The only difference was that there were few from his batch.

He looked into the distance and could see the outer edges of Viridian Forest, the home of Kanto Bug-type Pokémon. A group of Pidgeys flew across the sky while occasionally, one could see Rattata coming out of the thick foliage.

"What Pokémon will become my partner?"

A smile formed on Aeron's face as he imagined all the possibilities, and the bus had arrived in Pewter City.
