30 School Orientation

'I knew this would happen' He sighed as he took a seat. Steven and Amber turned their heads, the latter waving her hands in a fist while mouthing 'Fighting!' while the former gave an encouraging smile. Paul returned them a happy smile. While inwardly thankful, Paul looked at the fellow beside him and found him asleep.

Sighing internally, Paul thought about today's class introduction as Mr. Figg let them rest for a few minutes before continuing on today's orientation. As today was the first day, an orientation would be given for the school's operation, facilities, vision and mission, activities, subjects, grading system, and the rules and violations. After that, they would go on a tour of the school with Mr. Figg detailing the uses and purposes of each facility.

There were quite a few gains, as he was able to observe the demographic of his class. Besides the four of them, all students were at the age of 7. Jake, Amber, and Steven were the only five-year old in the class. There were no 6-year-old present, and with him as the only three-year old.

He was also able to see three other pokemons with Blue Potential in the classes besides the four of them. One was the Torchic of the 13th Rank, another was the Bagon of the 9th Rank, and the last one was the Treecko of the 5th Rank. Most Pokemons of the class were spanning from Light Green to Dark Green Potential, with their levels hovering the Rookie and Adept Level. Well, besides his pokemon.

The training of both his pokemons were going quite well. He was satisfied with their progress despite the lack of Pokemon Battles.

Paul was also quite surprised regarding the maturity of his classmates despite their age, especially of Steven, Amber, and Jake, even if the last one really likes dozing off. Thinking of 10-year-olds adventuring on their own, it was quite reasonable if you think about it. As Paul observed growing up, that most children develop faster here compared to his past life.

People here are physically stronger, and able to mature at an early age. He wasn't sure about the specifics, but he hypothesizes that it is due to the energy present in the Pokemon World. Though humans are unable to use the energy that Pokemons absorb and utilize, their body is still exposed to it every day, which inadvertently have quite significant effects in the long run.

This phenomenon caused the population of the Pokemon World to be more resistant to Pokemon attacks and given relatively more vigorous health. Mutation also occurs, which creates natural people to have affinity to certain attribute.

For example, people with relative affinity to Psychic energy develop Psychic powers, like Paul or the Saffron City Gym Leader of Kanto Region, Sabrina. Some also develop more stronger bodies than normal people, such as the Fighting Type Elite Four of Kanto Region, Bruno. There are some who also grew up in attribute rich places thus developed certain powers and affinity such as Future Ghost Type Elite Four of Hoenn Region, Pheobe.

There are a lot of mutations due to the presence of attribute energy, which mainly comes from the necessity of this type of energy for Pokemons. It cannot be seen, but it is present everywhere in nature, with some places much richer than others.

Paul chatted with Steven and Amber while Jake was taking a nap when Mr. Figg started the school orientation. Paul immediately woke Jake up as Steven and Amber also fixed their seats. Mr. Figg immediately started a power-point slide from the projector and started to narrate.

"The Pokemon Trainers' School has a long history, as we've been in service for almost seven decades. Since the foundation of the Pokemon Alliance a hundred and twenty years ago, the usage of pokeball wasn't widely spread yet. At that time, the alliance was mostly stabilized by the trainers who were able to use modern pokeballs made by ancient civilizations. Back then, pokeballs were inherited, thus owning a Pokemon was big deal before. It wasn't until the discovery of Johto Region's Apricorns uses by Professor Westwood in developing modern pokeballs seventy years ago, that our school was founded."

"Once the convenience of training Pokemons became widespread, the first principal, Mr. Pine, who's the ancestor of our current principal, decided to create an institute that focuses on educating future trainers. As the years passed by, the school also added curriculums in order to educate children with other professions, so that their choices in the future won't be limited to being a Pokemon Trainer."

"The schools offer complete facilities, for the students' convenience and education. The Utility Building where facilities that are commonly used are located. The Class Building where the classrooms and teachers' faculty and lounge are situated. The Contest and Battle Buildings mostly for the Contest and Battle Classes and school competitions or events. The Doctor's building mainly for Doctor's classes and the infirmary. Lastly, the Training Venues for the training area of the students. A school tour would be conducted after the seminar for all of you, where I will further specify the uses of each facility." Mr. Figg elaborated as he flashed the pictures of the buildings and its facilities from the projector.

"The vision of the school is simple. It is to provide the citizens of not only Hoenn Region, but globally, a place where their brightest children could further flourish their talents and learn to become what they aim to be. While the school's mission is to provide quality education that is worth of the school's reputation and the money that was spent for you." He stated as he displayed the school's vision and mission on the board.

"The school has been producing fine graduates every year, dispersed in different professions of the Pokemon World. Some even became well-known researchers, trainers, doctors, breeders, and coordinators. It is up to your will on who you want to become. The school is the place to provide you the necessary experience, and knowledge for your future professions, no matter what you want to be." Mr. Figg stated as he showed the school's current subjects.

"We mainly offer four major subjects and three minor subjects. It is necessary to take all major subjects, though it is required to have one minor subject, in which the subject matter is your choice. The four major subjects are the following: Battle Class, Contest Class, Doctor's Class, and the Beginner's Class. The available minor subjects are Breeding, Culinary, and Music & Art." Mr. Figg spoke as he pointed to the slide.

"One class is an hour, so the school hours are five hours in total. With breaks in between, your schedule will be followed according to the slide on the front." He continued pointing at the projection.

"The minor subject choice form would be distributed before dismissal. Make sure to communicate with your parents on your choice of minor subject, as the Parent's Signature is needed for the form." Mr. Figg reminded them before he proceeded to the next subject.

"There are only a few school rules, thus the violations are made harsher." Mr. Figg recounted as he stared at his students.

"None of your own pokemons should be commanded outside the school's vicinity. Pokemon Battles are only to be conducted inside the school, with a teacher present. In case that a battle is ensued without a teacher's consent or outside the school boundaries, it's punishable by a semester length suspension and up to a student's expulsion." The students harshly inhaled their breath.

Mr. Figg continued, "Next is the time duration within the school premises. At 5:00 p.m. sharp, the school grounds are closed for any students. Besides the personnel and faculty of the school, and students with permission, no one could stay at the grounds at that time. Result to violation would also be the same as earlier, suspension at best, and expulsion at worst." The students gave a solemn nod.

Mr. Figg didn't hesitate to resume as he saw the class's understanding. "Another rule is that any form of bullying isn't allowed to any student, personnel, or Pokemon. Once it is verified that a case of bullying is happening, it might cause immediate expulsion. The school believes on the good environment, though competition is allowed, bullying is prohibited. It is a low exercise for those narrow-minded and jealous people who only inflicts mental and physical pain to others. We do not tolerate any form of bullying here at Pokemon Trainers' School. So, if you witness, or is a victim of bullying, please don't hesitate to report it immediately."

Mr. Figg also mentioned rules such as the prohibition of gadgets and food inside the classroom, proper attendance and punishment to tardiness, and other minor stuff such as penalty for littering and vandalism. There are also set standards for the wearing of uniform, and the protection of the school's image. Overall, the rules were quite reasonable. The students just need to step in line, and they will be fine.

Following the orientation, Mr. Figg let the students have a break before giving them the whole school tour. The tour lasted a few hours, before he proceeded to dismiss the class for lunch break. Right after, activities ensued, with most of them being team building oriented. The class got to know each other better, and at the end of the day, Mr. Figg dismissed them with each having a minor subject choice form, to be returned the following day.
