Project 'Evolution' Part 2

21st December 1994

Kanto Region, Oak's Lab:

"Project Evolution?" Red questioned Laura.

"Yes, Project 'Evolution'. It has been divided into different research depending on the Pokemon, The first division of the research is the Nidorina and Nidorino project," Laura said.

Her eyes lit up gradually as she talked about the two Pokemon, To Red, It seemed like those were her most favorite Pokemon.

"Nidorina has a calm and caring nature, Because it's horn grows slowly, It prefers not to fight while on the other hand, Nidorino is quick to anger, It stabs enemies with it's horns to inject a powerful poison when it becomes agitated," Laura said.

[A / N: The Data was from the Pokedex in Fire Red version]

"Okay," Red said, "So from what I can see, Nidorina is calm while Nidorino is temperamental,"

"Yes," Laura said, "So their evolutions must have something to do with their behaviors, right?"

"Yes," Red said but inwardly, 'Why do I get the feeling that a peculiar item is needed, What was it, Moon... something? I think i've forgotten, How do I even know?'

"How many evolutionary items have you tried out?" Red asked.

"We tried the King's rock, although i'm not sure if it even has any uses," Laura said.

"We also wanted to try the Dusk stone but it's only effective for ghost type Pokemon," Ella added.

"We thought maybe if we increased the potency of the Poison in the two Pokemon, They would evolve," Tina said.

"But all of them failed?" Red asked.

"Yeah," Ella said, "The reason we're even trying is because a trainer said he saw a large bulky Pokemon standing on two feet leading a herd of Nidoran and Nidorino at Mt. Moon, That's why we were so interested,"

Red felt something had clicked into place.

"How about a Moon stone?" Red asked.

"Yeah, I have one here," Ella said, "But you can only use it when there's no sun,"

"Apparently we're covered in snow so it should work, assuming it works though," Red said as he took the Moon stone from Ella and crouched in front of Nidorino while putting the stone on it's forehead.

5 Seconds... Nothing, 10 Seconds... Nothing, 15 Seconds... Nothing, 20 Seconds...

A bright light covered the entire room as Nidorino let out a roar and expanded in size.

Red stared at Nidoking who was in the ranch now, taking control of all of the Male Nidorans and Nidorinos. He was still in shock, How did he know that a moon stone would evolve it?

He averted his eyes from the Nidoking to his Charmander who was sparring against a Charmeleon in the ranch. Samuel had gotten his Pokemon back.

Red then averted his eyes again to Ella and Tina were walking alongside Nidoqueen, studying what she did.

Laura on the other hand was inside the lab, When Nidorino evolved, It had gained another typing: The ground type which left Red in utter shock.

He was sure that when news of the research reached outside the lab, Trainers with Nidorino would be carrying Nidokings. Apparently, Moon stones were very hard to find so they might need to go to Mt. Moon for them.

Red sighed as he swooshed his hair back, feeling the cold of the snow without his trench coat. He didn't think his first job would leave him so depressed, He was not sad because he discovered a new evolution, It was the popularity that this brought.

He didn't notice when a person sat beside him, It was... Samuel.

"News travel around the lab quickly," Samuel said, "Honestly I didn't expect you to do it the first time,"

"Okay, I just felt it was needed," Red said while looking at the sky, a flake of snow fell on his nose, "I don't know why but the Moon stone seemed like the right stone,"

"I don't blame you," Samuel said, "You must be depressed because of the fame it will bring,"

"Yeah, I don't think I'm ready for it yet," Red said.

"Then don't be," Samuel said with a shrug, "Once I bring the thesis to the Pokemon League, I'll say it was found by Professor Shadow or something along the lines,"

"Okay, thanks then," Red said.

"Come on, You're supposed to be happy, not sad," Samuel said while patting Red's shoulder, "Feel free, More evolutions like this and I'll give you a wing in the House, Isn't your goal to perv on Daisy's underwear?"

"N... No," Red stuttered, "I'm not a pervert,"

"I can see it and I know Daisy can see it too," Samuel said, "She once told me about the perverted comics in your room, Y'know,"

Red bit his lips.

"She knows about that?" Red asked.

"Yeah, but you really want to know the reasons that she rejected you that day?" Samuel asked.

"Yeah," Red replied.

"Age difference and Bill," Samuel said with a shrug.

"Who's Bill?" Red asked.

"The guy who developed the Pokemon storage system," Samuel said, "He's one of my top student alongside Cerise and he happens to be a year older than her,"

Red bit his lips at the surge of new information but a smile tugged his lips seconds later.

"She'll pay," was all he said.
