Chapter 14: Gaining A Badge & A Companion

Lenora looked at me, a smirk on her face as she did so.

"To think my second challenger of the day was observing the battle of my first." She spoke.

"Simple coincidence, I assure you. Ms. Lenora." I said.

"Just call me Lenora. "She replied.

"No problem Lenora. So, let's get started." I said.

She nodded.

Hawes then started the same rules as he did before with Elesa.

After he was finished Lenora sent out her first pokemon for this round.

A Spring Form Sawsbuck.

Seeing this I didn't hesitate to send out Gyarados.

Those two weeks of training were not for nothing. I feel fully confident in her to win this battle, and if she doesn't then she gains good experience. This is a win-win situation here.

"Oh my, to have a Gyarados at your age." Lenora spoke.

"I'm full of surprises." I said. "But enough talk. Gyarados, Icy Wind."

"Dodge it, and use Bullet Seed." Lenora said.

So her Sawsbuck gracefully dodged the Icy Wind, and then pelted Gyarados with Bullet Seed.

But she shrugged it off.

"Sunny Day, then use Flamethrower." I said.

So the sunlight increased, and Gyarados unleashed a torrent of flames from its mouth. Scoring a direct hit on Sawsbuck.

"Leech Seed."

"Burn it away using Flamethrower." I said.

Gyarados burned away the seed using her flames.

"Zen Headbutt."

Gathering psychic energy at the top of its head and antler, Sawsbuck rushed forwards and slammed into Gyarados chest, sending her into the ground.

"Now while its down, use Body Slam." Lenora spoke.

"Thunder Wave." I said.

Then Gyarados released electrical energy from her body, paralyzing Sawsbuck and stopping it in its tracks. Allowing her to get back up.

"Dragon Dance, then use Dragon Tail." I said.

So Gyradaos slithered around and powered up, then coated her tail in draconic energy. Which took a few seconds.

But she's new to manipulating draconic energy, so I won't fault her.

Just means we need to train and battle more for her to get a better feel for it.

She slammed her tail into Sawsuck, and smacked it into a ground like one of those old time cartoons from my past life.

As she lifted her tail, Gyarados released a roar.

I shook my head.

She needs to learn to not showboat.

We're definitely going to discuss that later.

The Sawsbuck stood up, and shook itself for a moment.

"Swords Dance, then use Smart Strike." Lenora spoke.

As she did so Sawsbuck powered up, and then slammed into Gyarados once more.

Making her get an irritated expression on her face.

"Keep it together." I shouted at her. "We are in a battle. Letting emotions control you will lead to your defeat." I said. Trying to sound like a Jedi.

Hearing me Gyarados took a breath and calmed down.

Good.

"Smart Strike, once more."

"Flamethrower." I said.

"Dodge using Dig." Lenora suddenly spoke.

'Got you.' I thought.

Instead of charging forward, Sawsbuck dug underground to avoid the flames from Gyarados.

"Now, Bulldoze." I spoke.

When I did so Gyarados slammed her tail repeatedly into the ground, causing it to shake furiously.

This is turn caused Sawsbuck to exit the hole it just made in the ground, it's entire body shaking from the attack just unleashed against it.

"Dragon Dance, then use Flamethrower." I said.

So Gyarados powered up once more, and unleashed another round of flames. Striking Sawsbuck head on.

As the flames engulfed the pokemon it let out a cry of pain.

Then once they died down, it fell to the ground.

Unconscious.

"Sawsbuck is unable to battle. So the victor is Ezra and his Gyarados." Hawes stated.

When he did Gyarados released a triumphant roar.

Meanwhile Lenora returned her Sawsbuck, and took out her next pokeball.

"The way you used Bulldoze was impressive. Not many young trainers think of something like that." Lenora stated.

"I always try to think of new ways to use moves." I said.

Which I started in my previous life. But I'm not going to say that.

In fact I don't ever plan on telling anyone about my past life. Since that would open up a whole can of Wrumple I do no want to deal with.

"Good, that's very good." Lenora stated. "You're impressing me. So here's a treat." She said.

Lenora then sent out her next pokemon.

A Kangaskhan.

I let out a low whistle.

Lenora was right, this is a treat.

Since a lot of trainers don't have access to a Kangaskhan.

Mostly because of how hard it is to train one.

Actually that applies to a majority of heavy hitting normal-type pokemon. Slaking, Snorlax, and Bewear to name a few.

I have no clue why its a thing with them, it just it.

Oh well.

"I am honored you would use such a pokemon against me." I said to Lenora.

I then returned Gyarados.

Not because I don't think she can win, but because I have someone else who wants to fight today even more.

"Fraxure, go." I said. Sending him out to battle.

He's been anxious these past two weeks, becoming antsy. I had the pokemon center do a checkup on him and they told me he has a clean bill of health. Though is mood swings are still present. Battling is the only thing that seems to calm him down. So I'll give him what he wants.

Seeing his opponent, Fraxure roared.

His body then glowed with the light of evolution, and then in a minute a Haxorus was now standing in front of me.

'Ah, I guess this is why he's been antsy.' I thought.

He was in the process of getting ready to evolve, and now its finally happened.

"Good for you buddy. Now, let's win this." I said.

"Haxorus!" He roared.

"Dragon Pulse."

"Sucker Punch!" Lenora shouted.

Then true to the moves names, Kangaskhan coated her right first in dark-type energy and sucker pnched Haxorus right in the jaw.

'That's got to hurt.' I thought.

"Work Up, then use Comet Punch." Lenora spoke.

Afer she did so Kangaskhan powered up, and then closed the distance to Haxorus once more. This time punching him all over his body rapidly like a stand from JoJo.

When it was all over he fell on his right knee.

"Stand up." I said.

So he stood, releasing a roar after he did so.

"Good, now Bulldoze."

"Sucker Punch."

"Dodge it." I said.

Then this time Haxorus managed to dodge the attack.

"Dragon Dance, then use Breaking Swipe." I said.

Powering up, Haxorus tail glowed with draconic energy and he closed the distance. Delivering the attack to Kangaskhan.

But jumped right back up.

"Don't let up, use Dragon Tail."

"Counter with Ice Beam."

Kanagaskhan unleashed powerful beams of ice from her mouth, but Haxorus plowed through them and slammed his tail into her. Grabbing hold of her after he did so.

"Dragon Claw!" I shouted.

Haxorus then laced his claws with draconic energy and dug them into Kangaskhan, creating a small explosion when he did so. He then jumped back.

Only for Kangaskhan to lumper forward a few seconds later.

"Work Up, then use Comet Punch."

"Taunt, then use Dragon Breath once more." I said.

Stopping Kangaskhan from powering up, Haxorus unleashed another powerful blast of energy from its mouth, scoring another direct hit.

"Ice Beam."

"Protect, then use Brick Break." I said.

Since I've been working on teaching Haxorus fighting-type moves.

A large move pool will give us tons of options in battles after all.

A green dome formed around Haxorus that the beams of ice couldn't penetrate.

Once they fell he rushed in and delivered a jab to Kangaskhan chest.

Sending her flying back.

"Finish this. Use Dragon Dance, then Dragon Tail!" I called out.

Haxorus then powered up once more, and rushed at Kangaskhan and slammed his tail into her. Creating a small explosion when he did so this time around.

When the dust cleared Kangaskhan was down for the count.

While Haxorus, although down on one knee, was still conscious.

"The match is over. Both of gym leader Lenora's pokemon are unable to battle. Thus the victor goes to Ezra Grimheart from Opelucid City." Hawes stated.

As he did so I gave Haxorus a thumbs up before returning him.

I then got the Basic Badge, some prize money, and the TM for Work Up from Lenora.

"Good work young man." She told me.

"Thank you." I told her. "Well then, until next time." I said.

I then left the gym, Elesa by my side. Stars in her eyes.

Seems the two of us were going the same way, since we ended up at the pokemon center together. Turning over our pokemon for rest and recovery.

I then went to the lounge and she once again followed me. Sitting down right beside me.

"Ezra, that was amazing." She said. "You're an awesome trainer."

"Thanks." I told her.

"So, where are you headed next?" Elesa asked me.

"To Castelia City. For my third gym badge." I told her. Since I didn't see the harm.

"I see." Elesa mused. "So um, would you...like some company?" She said. The last part a whisper but I still heard it.

"So, you would like to travel with me?" I asked her.

Elesa gave a curt nod in response.

"I don't mean to sound rude, but why? We just met and barely know each other." I said.

Well I know her better, but again I cannot say that out loud. Otherwise she'll think I'm sort of stalker.

"I mean, you beat a gym leader, and you look to be a good trainer. I feel I might learn some things from you." She explained to me. "And as for the latter part, it'll be fine. You don't seem like a bad guy, and if anything happens to me my follows will know who to hunt down." She said, casually.

"Sorry, what?" I asked.

Elesa then smirked at me and took out her phone.

She then pulled up her social media page on a site called 'Trainers Now', which is a socially media platform dedicated to pokemon trainers. Where they can make posts and do other such things.

Elesa is a member and has a huge following of 500,000 followers.

"See, I update almost daily. So again, if anything happens to me people will know it was you. That's why I think it's fine if we travel together." Elesa stated.

Like she didn't just threaten to sick her followers on me if I did anything to her she didn't like.

Not that I'm going to, but still.

Women are scary.

"I see." I said. "Well, if that's how you feel I see no problem with us traveling together." I said.

"Great." Elesa said. "So, let's exchange numbers now." She said.

Then before I knew it I was swept up in Elesa energy.

Again, now I see how she becomes a model and leading gym leader in the future.

She just has a certain charm about her.

One which I will not get observe up close and personal it seems.
