8 Chapter 8

Meanwhile in a random Brooklyn Police Station.

"Oh man, this is the 6th sighting of that damn fire lizard this week. What on earth is going on?"

Another police officer walking up to one going through a mental breakdown just chuckled,

"Still stuck with those reports are you Dave? You know they were probably hyped up on some drugs or hallucinated due to the stress, just ignore them."

"Yeah yeah I've heard it before Kat, but seriously if it was just one or two then I would agree with you but we're at 6 now and surely there must be something going on."

"Dave just drop it" feeling exasperated, "there's a reason everyone else has dropped it."

"NO! I'm gonna figure it out, you'll see."

Shaking her head in defeat Kat walked away, as she was making her way back to her desk she heard someone call out.

"Yo Kat!", looking over to the front desk she could see the duty officer with another man behind him calling her over.

Walking over to the front desk she noticed the man with the duty officer was around 6 feet tall maybe a bit shorter, he had a generic male Caucasian look that would fit in anywhere, she could tell there was something official about him and he felt like CIA or FBI, something like that. Standing a little straighter she made her way over, "Yes what can I do for you...?"

"I am agent Coulson, I'm with the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. I am here chasing up information about a case that is...unusual."

"Well that's a bit of a mouthful isn't it?",

"Yes we get that a lot, again that case?"

"Oh right sorry, first I need to see your badge and then I'll take you to Dave, he's in charge of the case at the moment."

After Flashing the badge, he was escorted into the bull pen, "Hey Dave!".

"Yes what is it now Kat!" Dave said turning around in annoyance, upon seeing the suited man behind her he pulled up short and looked caught in the headlights. "Umm yes, what can I do for you Kat, and…..".

"Phil Coulson, and I'm here for the information about the abnormal cases you've been getting."

"Wait what!?!! This is my case…"

"Yes, and now it's mine, if you have any problems with this then take it up with your boss."

"Oh, I am going to do that very thing!", standing up and marching to his Captain's office. Moments later he came back looking crestfallen, picked up all the information about the cases and handed it to Agent Coulson.

"Thank you, have a good day." And with that he walked out of the station.

Kat looking at Dave asked, "What happened?"

Still looking upset with the whole situation he stared at her, "I went in to the captain and he told me not to waste his time. Then to give him everything I had."

"Sorry about that buddy, but hey look on the bright side, this shows that you were on to something after all if a suit came to get the case."

"Yeah your right, and hey it's not like I'm left with nothing...", Grinning and pulling a photo out of his pocket, it was very blurry and you couldn't see much, just an orange and red blue and black outline.

Back in the apartment with our vigilante to be

"Oh man that feels so good", running my massage gun up and down my legs working out some knots I had building up. Cinder was relaxing on a heating pad I had set up and after some adjustment was at a temperature far past the recommended limit on the machine. Hearing a growl in response I chuckled to myself.

We had been busy over the last week, heading out each night, we haven't found something each night but sometimes there has been multiple contacts in a single one. Just like what I suspected before, we are earning experience from combat with other people, it has also assisted in Cinder becoming more familiar with his moves and his mastery of them.

My experience hasn't increased by too much, I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong as its just accumulating so slowly, maybe we need to try something new when we head out. Charmander though is accumulating his much faster, instead of the part percentages its solid numbers.

Looking at the experience he has gained it works out that for each person he defeats he gets 2 experience points, and for me the way we are going its half a percentage for each encounter. Cinder's 'scratch' has improved to intermediate as well, this has been seen with how adept he had become adjusting the energy levels put into his claws while performing the move.

Maybe I need to be more involved in each encounter to gain more experience, after all I need to try something, it may also help me in getting some more draw chances, still have no idea how to accumulate more of them. I really want to get another partner as the next one could possibly help me with my abilities.

I've also been moving a bit away from the area surrounding my apartment, I mean if the police gradually found a lack of incidents around an area after being aware of someone combating crime it would point a pretty big arrow towards me. Avoiding attention as much as possible is ideal, after all if I wasn't able to protect myself then it leaves me open to being taken advantage of.

On that point I have found that my attempts at sensing that form of energy during my aura training was becoming gradually more successful, I have been able to sense it and at one point take a hold of it, only for a second or two but it was improvement. During that very brief moment I swear I felt a source of energy elsewhere in the apartment and if it was who I think it was, then I was sensing Cinder.

If I am able to maintain that state for longer then our expeditions out into the city would benefit greatly being aware of where each other was. There's still no sign of it progressing in my menu but I think that if I can manage to manipulate that energy or even call it forth on will then I'll be able to progress to some of the more advanced abilities.
