16 Chapter 16

Coming to in my own bed I groggily sit up and holding my head as it feels like its splitting apart, I try to think of the last thing I remember. I was in an office, Cinder was nearly shot by a man and then nothing, just some blurry images of a blast of power and a boat. Nothing much past that until I woke up, shooting up I felt all around trying to find Cinder's poke ball, not finding it on me but then spying it on the bedside table I let out a sigh of relief.

Picking it up I hold it close 'I nearly lost you buddy, I'm so sorry I let that happen', getting a shake in response i released Cinder from the ball. Materialising in front of me he looks around and upon spotting me jumps into my arms, feeling the warmth coming off his body and his arms around me set my mind at a bit more ease, but the worry that I would put us in another situation like that had me concerned.

Taking out time to get sorted we eventually made it into the kitchen and had some food, sitting down both of us deep in thought it occurred to me to check our status pages to see what had changed.

Amazed at the changes I saw before me I tried to take it in but I was interrupted by a few notifications.

Wow that was a bit of information, and it got me so damn close to the 10 draws I needed for my next partner, 'Damn It!'. But well let's take it all in, like Cinder my exp required increased with the increase of level, wow the bond shot up it seems like going through dangerous situations with your Pokémon helps move that along. It seemed like I now had a job, seeing the N/A disappear. I wonder what it does. I don't feel different, and I can't select it to find out, maybe its like the games where the level you are means that Pokémon will listen to you better.

That sounds like something that would work, but I've found so far that there are changes between the games and what I have, it could be more something along the way of guidelines that show where your experience lies with training and Pokémon. So far it seems like the achievements are focused on some of the major events happening, like public exposure, using both my aura and psychic abilities and getting my first level.

If my status had changed this much then I am very curious about Cinder's, lets have a look.

CHARMANDER (Cinder)

LVL 9 (22/45)

GENDER: MALE

ABILITY: BLAZE

BOND: 88%

HEALTH: 100%

STAMINA: 100%

MOVES: Scratch (Intermediate), Growl (Intermediate), Ember (Intermediate)

NOTE: A bond of less than 40% will cause Pokémon to ignore some commands

Not a huge number of changes for Cinder surprisingly, there's the bond increase, but the main one is that his level shot straight up, completely bypassing level 8 and making it nearly halfway through level 9. Looking at his move list I don't see smokescreen, which lends credence to my theory that he needs to work on the move, he doesn't just get the move when he hits the prerequisite level. This would mean though that his affinity with the energies required would be at a sufficient level to facilitate learning the move.

When we have recovered from the ordeal, we will get right into some training to work on his existing move set and try to get him learning smokescreen. It will be very useful down the line providing us with some coverage in certain situations. He should have no problem manoeuvring through the smoke as it will have been generated with his own energy, I may have some problems though as it will be just as obstructive for me as it is for others.

I think that to get past that problem I will have to work on my aura abilities, if I can run aura sensing constantly then I can use that ability to locate people through the smoke. Then it will also stop us from getting surprised again like we just had been, lowering the risk and threat significantly. Coming up with a few things to work on I put our status to the back of my mind.

The need to find out what happened with my supposed psychic powers was necessary, I don't want to lose control of my body again, it was scary, the last thing I want to do is to lose control and someone loses their life. It felt like there was some relation to my emotions at the time and from what I recall from the animated show I watched when I was young, Sabrina had a shift in her demeanour when her psychic abilities manifested, the last thing I wanted to happen was to start turning people into dolls. I'm not saying my powers are at the same level as hers but hey, shit can happen.

Looking down at Cinder, I told him about our plans going forward, that we needed to get some more training in to solidify our skills, my time is getting even more precious than it was now that I have access to both psychic and aura abilities. Granted they aren't at a level that I could confidently use them but its definite progress.

Walking with him to the training area we settled in to test his current moves and then work on trying to get smokescreen down. Fingers crossed it's going to be simple, as we had already seen some progress before the fire situation. We just needed to cross the final hurdle and then can look at some other options with his moves to increase their proficiency.
