Eli resolutely woke up, ready for the big day. He got ready with his Pokémon, who had the same determination in their eyes as him. They slowly made their way to the stadium through the crowds that came to see his battle. Some cheered him on as he made his way in. Inside, he saw Adrian, who gave him a nod as he made his way to the audience seats. Taking a deep breath, Eli went through the tunnel that led to the stage.

As he made his way out of the tunnel, he was blinded by the lights from the stadium. There seemed to be no empty seats left in the stadium as they cheered him and Andre on. As he made his way to the field, he took his position as he saw Andre on the other side. "May the best trainer win." Andre spoke solemnly as he took out his Pokéball. Eli quietly nodded as he also took out his Pokéball. Throwing out at the same time, they unveiled their first Pokémon, Corvisquire and Pancham.

"And we've begun, folks, and it seems like trainer Eli has the type advantage, but is it all that it'll take to win? Who knows!" The commentator began narrating. "Trainers, ready? BEGIN". The referee began the match with "Protect" and "Fake Out," and both trainers gave their orders at once. Eli, knowing the pancham had Fake out, decided to Protect as he was spot on with the prediction. "Ohhhh, early tempo is in Trainer Eli's hands now with that smooth read." The commentator commented as the crowd went wild. "Hone claws, Corvisquire." Eli commanded, "Taunt." Andre countered, but Andre was in for a nasty surprise as Corvisquire itself used Taunt, completely outplaying him. This was one of the tactics that Eli had discussed with his Pokémon, and it paid off.

"Hone Claws," Eli ordered, with the first phase of his plan working out. "Crafty little sh*t, Mega Kick into Circle Throw." Andre swore as he gave his Pancham further orders. Pancham, with an impressive bout of speed dashed with a Mega Kick prepared as he was in front of the avian who had used Hone Claws, let loose a massive kick, which the crow dodged, but that was just a diversion, as Pancham quickly grabbed Corvisquire's wing and circle-threw him onto the ground before landing a massive Low Kick onto the downed avian without needing any command from his trainer.

Eli, who saw what happened, was shocked as he muttered, "So he has a few tricks." To which both Andre and Pancham smirked. 'Like trainer like Pokémon.' Eli sweat dropped. "Corvisquire into the air, hit and run tactics." Eli ordered his avian, who quickly recovered, albeit wounded, to take to the air, barraging the grounded Pancham, who could do little. "Alright, that's enough, Pancham. Get ready on my mark 1, 2, and 3. Go wild!" Andre shouted, shocking everyone except Pancham, who smirked as he ran from one corner to the other, dodging to the best of his abilities, until he saw Corvisquire do another dive bomb, which he jumped over, but not before landing a Brick Break further injuring the bird, but he had messed up.

"Take him to the skies." Eli ordered as Corvisquire, accustomed to heavy weight, smirked, grabbing the Pancham before taking to the skies. "WHAT THE FU-" Andre was at a loss for words. "Toss him and Drill Peck!" Eli shouted as his Pokémon dropped the Pancham, who was flailing wildly, before getting hammered into the ground by a Drill Peck.

"That was BRUTAL folks, Corvisquire, the stone cold killer as always." The crowd cheered on the battered and bruised Avian. "Alright, I'll give it to you; that was a smart one." Andre applauded before getting serious. "Onix time for revenge." Andre spoke, his eyes going serious. 'Sh*t' Eli thought as he saw a 29-foot-tall behemoth with its rocks being an ugly green come out with a bright flash of light. He had known that André had registered it as a part of his team, but that didn't mean he was prepared for it. 'Hope that strategy works.' Eli thought grimly as he scanned the rock behemoth.

Pokémon: Onix [Shiny]

Lvl: 24

Type: Rock Ground

Ability: Weak Armor (Hidden Ability)

Gender: Male

Potential: Deep Gold

Moves: Rock Slide, Earthquake,Stealth Rock, Sandstorm [E], Sand Tomb,Harden

(Innate Talent) Stone Edge [E] (Innate Talent) Iron Tail [E]

(TM) Flash cannon; (TM) Dig

The monster was at Deep Gold with strong innate talent moves as well as Sandstorm on expert rank to hide in the cover, and he couldn't even try to do some damage to the Onix lest he activate his ability and shed its one weakness of speed. 'I need to shut it down somehow.'. "Begin!" the referee resumed the battle. "Sandstorm." 'Sh*t' "Tailwind" Eli was just a bit slower, but he didn't dare compete with a Sandstorm on expert rank with his Taunt and decided to just use Tailwind. As the Sandstorm set in Corvisquire couldn't see anything. "Iron Tail!" Andre shouted as Eli was helpless to do anything as Corvisquire got taken out. "Corvisquire, you did good; I'm proud of you," Eli said as he recalled his Avian.

"And a swift takedown from trainer Andre's Onix; with that, both trainers are down to their last Pokémon; this is getting interesting, folks." The commentator rose from his seat, excited at the events transpiring.

"Kubfu, I'm counting on you!" Eli called out his starter as he came out with a fighting stance. "BEGIN!" The referee resumed the match. "Kubfu, try to feel out Onix's location." Kubfu nodded, activating his flow state, and felt out Onix's presence through the vast amount of sand in the air. "Now bulk Up." As Eli ordered his Pokémon, Kubfu glowed red, but Onix didn't stay idle. "Earthquake!" Andre shouted, getting into the zone. Onix slammed his massive tail into the field, making the whole ground shake as fissures broke out. rocks flew everywhere, with Kubfu in the centre of it using Bulk Up while taking damage.

"Brick Break, scale up its body, aim for the head!" Eli gave rapid orders to his little bear as Kubfu climbed up the Onix's body and tried to shake him off, but Kubfu was in the zone as he hit the Onix with a Brick Break head on, who roared in pain before swatting Kubfu with an Iron Tail commanded by his trainer. Kubfu, at critically low HP, could probably only take one attack. 'Time to use that,' Eli thought, resigned.

"Finish it, Iron Tail!" Andre pumped his fist as Onix's tail glowed with a grey sheen as he aimed his tail strike towards the battered bear. "ENDURE!" Eli shouted with emotion. Kubfu had a serious expression as he got into a stance before glowing white. "WAIT NOO-" Andre caught on to what was happening, but it was too late. Kubfu took the hit, barely, but Onix wasn't ready for what was next. "REVERSAL!!" Eli shouted, seeing victory in his grasp. Kubfu's fist glowed a deep shade of red, as one punch was all it took for Onix's huge body to be sent flying. The psychic Pokémon maintaining the barriers worked overtime to stop the barrier from cracking. As Onix fell down unconscious, there was a deafening silence as slowly Andre clapped, and soon everyone erupted in cheers. Eli, wasting no time, jumped down onto the field, took out a Hyper Potion from his cube, and healed his Kubfu, shouting "We won! We won!" as he hugged his little fighter. Andre also came down to heal his onix.

"Well played, cheeky bastard; I didn't expect you to pull that one." Andre smirked at Eli, who in turn smiled at him. "Please have the two trainers clear the field for the third-place games." The referee requested this as both of them made their way out of the stadium before going to the Poké Centre to heal their Pokémon.

Soon after, they were called back to the stadium for the award ceremony, with Eli being first, Andre second, and Adrian taking third place. "Now can we get a round of applause for the President of the Pokémon League Charles Goodshow, who will be handing out the awards." The person in question came on stage as he gave a long-winded speech to the crowd before moving onto the rewards. "Moving on for third place, we have 5 Ultra Balls and 3 Full Restores with a Cash Prize of 500,000 P. Please give it up for Adrian Firewood." The audience gave a round of applause to the third-place holder. "And for our second place, we have a league-sponsored training trip to the newest region in the alliance, the Paldean region, along with a cash prize of 700,000 P." Andre also got a huge round of applause from the crowd as he waved at them. "And now for the best rookie of the tournament, we have an egg of the Paldean Fire type royal Fuecoco along with the scale of a champion-ranked Charizard at the SS-Rank and a cash prize of 1,000,000 P. Congratulations, young man!" The cheers from the crowd were deafening.

'Skeledirge huh? He can be a good tank, but that's for later; I have some business to attend to.' After the award ceremony, Eli promised to hang out with Adrian and Andre, and later, putting on his Wilbur Bon Vide disguise, he made his way to the bar where he had placed his bets. "I believe you owe me something." Eli spoke in a soft tone that only seemed threatening to the bettaker. "Uhhh, yes, here it is, 60,000,000 P ready to be transferred to your account." Eli nodded as he received the money and hastily left the bar and the whole black market as he made his way to his room in the Pokémon centre.

"Ok guys, come on out. I have some great news. We won the tournament, and for our victory, we have a new friend. He is still an egg, though he'll have to hatch." All three of his Pokémon were happy that they won, and even though Ralts didn't take part, he was happy for his trainer. "Today's a day off, so we'll go celebrate with Andre and Adrian. Let's go."

As he met up with Adrian and Andre, they were surprised to see a shiny Ralts too with him. "Damn, where'd you get that one?" Andre asked. "You're one to ask; you have a shiny Onix." Eli fired back, to which Andre smirked. "Lucky bastards, both of you, let's go to eat. I'll eat my pain away." Adrian, sulking at the fact that only he didn't have a shiny hurried them to go eating as fast as possible.

The rest of the day was filled with laughter and fun as the three friends celebrated with food, food, and even more food. By the end of it, Adrian had to lean on Charmeleon for support as he made his way back to his home. Meanwhile, Andre looked fine by some miracle. "You're a freak of nature, I tell you. Anyway, where do you live? I thought the Gödelstrides lived in Saffron." Eli inquired.

"I have an apartment in every popular city in Kanto; I'm rich, remember?" Andre spoke those words like it was nothing stunning, Eli. "Rich bastard," Eli said as Andre shot back, "Poor commoner, hey, that reminds me. There's an auction tomorrow in Viridian City, and I can invite one other person. Wanna come with?" Andre asked, and Eli readily agreed. He had a lot of money, and this seemed like the best time to spend it to make his team stronger.

"Alright, I'll come to pick you up tomorrow. Goodnight, man." Andre bade Eli goodnight as he made his way to his apartment. As Eli entered his room, he saw the egg in the incubator showing no signs of hatching. As he got ready to sleep, he again was hit with the realisation that he had actually won the tournament against all odds. With that happy thought, he fell asleep quickly.
