20 Chapter 19: Ship Happened

"'Friend Trainer, wake up! Friend Trainer!'" He was awakened in the middle of the night by his Kirlia, waking him up telepathically. '"What's wrong, Kirlia?" Eli asked groggily. '"Team Rocket, as you called them. I feel their presence all over the ship, as well as an ungodly psychic force."' Hearing this, Eli was wide awake. '"Sh*t, psychic? Ungodly? They've already succeeded in Project Mewtwo? Not good. Can you Teleport us out of here?"' Kirlia shook his head as he replied sadly, '"The force is stopping me from teleporting anywhere out of this ship. I'm sorry, Friend Trainer."' Eli felt a knot forming in the pit of his stomach as he realized what was happening: Team Rocket was raiding the SS Anne, and Mewtwo was with them.
"Adrian, wake up! Team Rocket is here, and they are trying to take over the ship!" Eli frantically shouted as he shook Adrian awake. "What is it?" Adrian asked, annoyed at his rude awakening. "Team Rocket, taking over the ship. Come with me; let's get to Surge." Eli tried to shorten his explanation as he made his way to the door before Adrian grabbed him. "If Team Rocket's out there, wouldn't it be safer to just stay here?" Adrian asked, looking a bit panicked as well. "NOT IF THE ADMIN WHOSE SON YOU KILLED IS ON HERE!" Eli whisper-yelled as his friend looked surprised at his outburst. Sighing, Eli explained to him about Admin Adam and his son. "Sh*t, of all the enemies you could have made, you made an admin your enemy?" Adrian sighed as he, too, got ready to go outside the door. "Trust me, if I make it out of this alive, I will send Adam to join his son in hell," Eli muttered darkly as he opened the door. 'Check for any people's signatures. If it's Team Rocket, just Teleport and Hypnosis them swiftly,' Eli ordered his Kirlia, who nodded before Teleporting away and coming back. '"The Lightning trainer is to our far right. He seems to be locked in an intense battle."' Kirlia reported as Adrian and Eli made their way to their right. '"Two Grunts in the hallway,"' Kirlia reported before he Teleported to dispatch them, freezing one in place with Psychic and putting the other one to sleep with Hypnosis. After putting the other one to sleep too, '"How far is he?"' Eli asked, hoping Surge was close. '"Just a bit more. He seems to be cleaning up the fight now."' After a bit of running, they heard a shout, '"RAICHU, TEACH THESE MOTHERFCKERS TO NEVER TRESPASS ON MY CITY, LIGHTNING BOLT MK.2!"' Eli had never seen the Lieutenant so pissed off. As they turned around the corner, they were greeted by a blinding light, seeing multiple Rocket grunts charred on the ground and the Lieutenant standing tall with his Raichu in front of him.

'As expected of a gym leader and hero of the war,' Eli thought as he looked at Surge and his Raichu. "What are you two brats doing here?" Surge looked surprised as he asked them. "I was alerted by my Kirlia of what was happening, and we thought that we would be most safe with you. If you encounter any Admins or Executives that might be on board, you can fight them unhindered while we fend off the grunts." Eli explained his reasoning, which was complete BS; he just wanted not to be alone when the Admin inevitably comes to enact his revenge. Surge mulled over it before nodding, "Alright, brats, you two with me. Stay close, or they might pick you off." Eli and Adrian nodded as they ran close after Surge. They encountered many grunts, but a Thunderbolt was enough to render them paralyzed. '"I sense a strong presence ahead of us. Be careful, Friend Trainer,"' Kirlia warned him. In front of them, he saw a large group of grunts and a person with the Admin uniform on. '"Sh*t, don't let it be Adam,"' Eli prayed as he saw the man open his mouth to speak. "If it isn't Lieutenant Surge, Hero of the War, and the brat that killed my son." He looked at Surge with a mocking smile before looking at Eli with a murderous look. "Mewtwo, keep our Lieutenant entertained. Grunts, go with him. I have a vendetta against this brat." Admin Adam spoke with cold fury as Surge and all the grunts were covered by a blue psychic aura before being teleported somewhere on the ship. "Now, where were we? Ah yes, REVENGE." The admin spoke like a maniac as he sent out his 2 Pokémon.

'F*ck,' Eli cursed as he sent out all his Pokémon, with Adrian following close behind. "Corviknight, deal with Crobat. Kirlia and Kubfu, go for Arbok. Crocalor, give cover from afar." His Pokémon nodded, and Adrian rattled off some commands to his Pokémon, except Seadra, who was in his Poké Ball. "Resistance is futile. Crobat, Tailwind. Arbok, Gunk Shot." Adam spoke seemingly calm as his Pokémon started to prepare their moves. "Tailwind, Corviknight. Kirlia, Psychic the Arbok. Kubfu, Mega Kick, axe kick the Crobat down. Kirlia, support. Crocalor, Fire Blast the Arbok." His Pokémon got into position; Corviknight fired off a Taunt, barely managing to get it off as Crobat now couldn't use Tailwind anymore. Kubfu took a leap; he was just short, but Kirlia Teleported below his feet, boosting him up as he landed a nasty Axe Kick. Crobat was thrown into the ground. Arbok wanted to help his ally, but he was put in place by Psychic. Though he was 9 levels higher, so he slowly struggled to get out as Kirlia struggled to keep hold, but Crocalor came in the nick of time. He threw a Fire Blast at the snake, who couldn't move to dodge and had to take the hit. Adrian's Trevenant Will-O-Wisped the Crobat, and Zoroark and Charizard were pushing Arbok back. It really seemed that they were winning, but an Elite Pokémon is still an Elite Pokémon. '"ENOUGH! Brave Bird that bear, Crobat. Arbok, Glare at the Kirlia, then Gunk Shot the crocodile in the back."' It all happened in an instant, but the tide of the battle had been turned. Kubfu took a Brave Bird from a Crobat that was 10 levels higher than him as he was slammed into the walls of the ship. Kirlia was paralyzed by the Arbok as a Gunk Shot was thrown at Crocalor, who tried his best to dodge but was hit, becoming badly poisoned.
'Sht,' Eli panicked as he froze up, not knowing what to do. He only snapped out of it when Adrian shook him. Charizard struggled against Crobat, while Arbok had Crocalor in a tight grip with Wrap. "Stop! If you want me, you can kill me. Just spare my Pokémon." Eli looked at Adam, proposing a desperate bargain. Adam's eyes looked hollow as he considered Eli's plea. Then he spoke, "I won't kill you. No, no, no, that would be MERCY." His hollow eyes regained a mad glint as he shouted, "I WILL KILL EVERYTHING—EVERYTHING YOU LOVE, JUST LIKE HOW YOU KILLED WHAT I LOVED, MY SON. ARBOK, THROW THAT CROCODILE INTO THE OCEAN!" Following his trainer's command, Arbok hurled Crocalor into the ocean. "ADRIAN, RETURN YOUR POKÉMON! SEND OUT SEADRA!" Eli shouted, hoping his friend would understand. He quickly returned his team and jumped off the deck, going underwater to frantically search for Crocalor. He found him struggling and quickly returned him. 'Please be okay, please be okay,' Eli prayed as he administered a Full Restore into his crocodilian's Poké Ball. As he surfaced for air, he heard another splash beside him. Adrian had jumped off into the freezing water too, sending out his Seadra. They weren't out of the woods yet, hanging onto Seadra for dear life as they made their escape. Or so they thought, until Eli saw a purple figure slowly flying towards them. It was the Crobat. 'SHT,' Eli swore as he saw it prepare an Air Cutter. Eli took it straight to the chest. The last thing he remembered was Seadra throwing an Ice Beam at the bat and hearing a massive explosion somewhere near the ship before blacking out.
{An unknown amount of time later}
"I WILL KILL EVERYTHING—EVERYTHING YOU LOVE, JUST LIKE HOW YOU KILLED WHAT I LOVED, MY SON. ARBOK, THROW THAT CROCODILE INTO THE OCEAN!" Crocalor was thrown off the board by Arbok, but Eli couldn't react in time. The chilling splash echoed in his ears, and all that remained was his friend's lifeless body resurfacing from the ocean.
"NOO-" Eli jumped upright from his bed, every muscle in his body screaming in pain as he did so. A suffocating weight pressed on his chest as the memories of that horrifying moment resurfaced. "Eli? Eli! Calm down. You're on Sea Foam Island. It's been two days since that incident. You're in the Pokémon Centre. All your Pokémon are okay, even Crocalor." Adrian rushed to Eli's side, attempting to steady him and keep him from falling off the bed. "Eli! Calm down! Crocalor was taken out of the ICU yesterday. The doctor said he would be fine, but you, on the other hand, will be vulnerable in your chest area. It will hurt to breathe because of the wound, too, but other than that, the doctors were just waiting for you to wake up before discharging you. But before that, you have a visitor. I heard him say he was Bill? I'll leave the room now, then we'll talk later." Adrian left as the creator of the Pokémon storage system, Bill himself, entered Eli's hospital room. "You gave me a heart attack when I heard about the explosion on the SS Anne. Is Kubfu okay?" Bill rushed forward with genuine concern, his eyes reflecting the shared worry for the well-being of Eli's Pokémon. 'Figures,' Eli thought, trying to mask the pain behind a forced smile, wondering why the billionaire was here. "Yeah, he's fine. Me and my Crocalor were the ones that had it the roughest." Eli's voice quivered, revealing a vulnerability he couldn't entirely conceal. Bill visibly relaxed as he gave out a sigh of relief. "Thank God. Oh, right, the other reason why I'm here. It was meant to be a surprise for you on the SS Anne, but the shipwreck happened. So, yeah," Bill shrugged as he took something out from his cube and presented it to Eli. It was the Top Grade Dawn Stone he had asked Bill for, in exchange for running tests on Kubfu and reporting the results when Kubfu evolved. Eli mused that it must be quite soon, considering there were only three steps, and Kubfu, with what little time he had during the SS Anne tournament, had made significant progress.
As he took the Turquoise evolution stone, noting its darker shade compared to the usual lighter hue, he could feel its power within his hands. "Alright, that's all I got. It's good to hear that Kubfu is okay. Hit me up at the lab after he evolves, that's if he has an evolution. Take care, Eli." Bill sent out his Alakazam, which teleported him, most probably, to his lighthouse. As soon as Bill left, Nurse Joy entered the room with a bunch of papers. "Alright, Mr. Eli, your discharge papers are in order. The doctor has advised you not to do any strenuous activities for a week, preferably two weeks. As for your Pokémon, all of them are mostly fine, but don't let Crocalor get any severe injuries as he's in the last stages of recovery, the most vital stages. You're good to go." Eli nodded as he signed the papers, took his Poké belt and cube, and left the Poké Centre.
As he did, he quickly sent out his team and looked at them with guilt and regret. "I put you all in harm's way. I'm sorry for that. You can leave the team if you want. I won't blame you." Eli hung his head low, met by a slap to the face from Kubfu, who looked at Eli as if he were the biggest idiot known to both man and Pokémon kind. 'Friend Trainer, we follow you out of our own volition. We live together, train together, and one day, die together. That's just life. We will follow you even into the pits of hell if we must,' Kirlia spoke as all his Pokémon nodded with seriousness. Eli felt a few tears drop from his eyes as he brought his team in for a hug, and they all obliged, although it was somewhat uncomfortable with Corviknight's huge size. "Thank you, thank you," Eli kept repeating as his Pokémon chuckled. Wiping off his tears, Eli looked at Kirlia seriously. "Bill has given me the Top Grade Dawn Stone, Kirlia. Are you ready to evolve?" He asked his psychic, who resolutely nodded.
Eli silently took out the Dawn Stone from his cube, its energy pulsating as Kirlia delicately touched the stone. He was covered in a blinding white light, many times brighter than when he evolved from a Ralts. Everything near Kirlia was dyed in a bright white light, and Eli and his Pokémon had to close their eyes to avoid being blinded. Finally, after 4 whole minutes, he heard a smooth voice in his head, 'Till death do us part, Friend Trainer.' As Eli opened his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of his now Shiny Gallade. His lower body consisted of rounded hips with strong legs, a thin blue torso with sharp orange horns sticking out of his chest and back. His arms resembled tonfas with extendable, blade-like elbows. His head resembled a gladiator's helmet with a white face, piercing orange eyes, and a grey head crest. He had spikes on the sides of his face.

Eli couldn't be any happier seeing Gallade's status. Not only did he rise up to Diamond rank Potential, but he also had a complete overhaul on his Perfect Talent moves. He had learned a lot, A LOT of new moves more tailored to his new evolution. 'Congratulations, Gallade,' Eli smiled as he patted the psychic who was just a bit shorter than him on the head. 'Thank you, Friend Trainer,' Gallade bowed respectfully to his trainer, who hurriedly stopped him. 'No need to do that, Gallade. We're a family,' Eli explained to his newly evolved Psychic Gladiator. 'Affirmative, Friend Trainer. So what do we do now then?' Gallade asked, his blades glowing with psychic energy signifying his excitement. "I was thinking we catch a Pokémon in Sea Foam Caverns while we explore it. It would be good training for all of you." Eli briefed his team, who nodded as Eli went to the makeshift shop near the cave entrance. He bought everything he would need to survive in the frigid cold and a month's worth of food just in case anything happened and he was stuck in the cave. 'Why do I have a bad feeling about this now?' Eli thought as he suited up in warmer clothing and made his way into the cave, not knowing what icy terrors lied inside.
