Chapter 81: The Fence

After lunch, Rex spoke to the Taillow perched on the branch outside his house, "Taillow, could you please bring Swellow here?"

The Taillow served as the messenger of the farm. Whenever Rex needed assistance, he would send it to notify other pokemons.

This arrangement was intentional by Rex to prevent himself from running around all the time. The farm was large, and searching on foot was time-consuming.

Most of Rex's pokemons were trained by him personally. Even Machop, who arrived at the farm yesterday, had gone to train with Heracross early in the morning.

Besides the Gastly hiding in the shadows, there was only Torchic running around Rex, which brought him a lot of joy during his morning work. At least, working wasn't so tedious.

It didn't take long for the Swellow to appear in the sky. As the messenger of the farm, the Taillow was quite fast among their group, allowing it to notify the Swellow quickly.

"Swellow, I need you to take me to Slateport City," Rex said to the descending Swellow.

The Swellow readily agreed. As the top assistant of this Trainer, it was quite disciplined. It might show some attitude in daily matters, but it never shirked its responsibilities.

"Yuli, I'm temporarily leaving the farm to you. I'll be back soon!" Rex said to Yuli, who had followed.

"Leave the farm to me. Have a safe journey, boss!" Yuli smiled and agreed.

Rex boarded the Swellow with the Torchic in his arms. The Torchic wanted to experience the feeling of flying in the sky, so it strongly requested not to be kept inside a Poké Ball.

As the Swellow ascended, the Torchic in Rex's arms wriggled excitedly. It was clear that it wasn't afraid of heights and enjoyed the sensation of flying high.

Unfortunately, although the Torchic could jump high when it evolved into Blaziken, it would be unable to fly. At most, due to its strong leg muscles, it could easily jump into the air temporarily.

With the Swellow flying at full speed, they landed on the square designated for flying type pokemon in Slateport City in just over 10 minutes.

Navigating familiar paths, Rex found a department store. He explained his need for a milking machine for Miltanks to the saleswoman, who then led him to a shop on the fifth floor.

"Hello, how can I assist you?" The shop's owner spoke as Rex was guided over.

"Hello, I'm looking to purchase a milking machine for Miltanks. Do you have them available?" Rex inquired.

"Of course, we have them. There's a demo model in our store. Follow me."

After hearing what Rex wanted to buy, the shop owner guided him to a corner where a machine was displayed.

"Our milking machine is highly efficient. Many Miltank farms in the area purchase from us. Each machine can milk up to 5 Miltanks simultaneously, with gentle pressure that won't harm the Miltanks," the owner explained proudly.

After a careful inspection, Rex was satisfied with the machine and made a decision on the spot.

"How much is this machine, sir?" Rex asked.

"I'll give you a special price since you seem serious about buying. It's 30,000 Alliance Coins. I'll also include several large-capacity metal tanks for milk storage. How does that sound?" the owner offered with a smile.

"Great. Could you arrange for delivery to the Rex Farm?" Rex agreed to the price, but he needed assistance with delivery as the machine was heavy and he couldn't transport it himself.

"Certainly, I guarantee delivery within 3 days."

The owner readily agreed, knowing that without delivery service, such large and heavy machines wouldn't sell.

After leaving the store, Rex didn't immediately leave. With the purchase deducted from his coins, he still had over 100,000 Alliance Coins. He planned to make further purchases before returning.

First, he visited a shop selling move TMs and bought Protect and Substitute moves. These two TMs were quite versatile and could be learned by most pokemon, costing a total of 20,000 Alliance Coins.

Then, he bought some Ultra Balls and Great Balls for backup. As for other pokemon items, he briefly looked into them but found them too expensive for now.

After purchasing these items, he intended to leave, but upon seeing a bookstore specializing in spirit knowledge, he paused.

Entering the bookstore, Rex spent a long time inside, then emerged with a satisfied smile, clearly having gained valuable knowledge.

Leaving the department store, Rex looked at his reduced savings on his phone and had no further thoughts except returning to his farm to work hard and increase his balance.

The return journey went smoothly. For Swellow, this trip was barely a warm-up. After dropping Rex and Torchic at farm doorstep, it soared back to its territory to continue training its juniors.

Rex arrived in the backyard to find it bustling with activity. Half of it was already enclosed by a one-meter-high fence.

"Boss, you're back!" Yuli, who was conversing with a middle-aged man in the backyard, noticed Rex and greeted him joyfully.

"Yes, I was delayed by something, so I'm back a bit later," Rex replied.

"Let me introduce you. This is Uncle Henry and his partner, Mike."

"Hello, young man. Impressive to become a farm owner at such a young age!" Uncle Henry's voice was hearty, and he looked almost as strong as his partner, Mike.

"Uncle Henry and Mike have excellent teamwork. In such a short time, they've already completed most of the fence," Rex commented, observing Mike effortlessly transporting and installing fence panels.

"Ahaha, young man, you have a good eye. Mike and I have been working together for many years. I can confidently say that there's no one in Fallarbor Town who can do it better or faster than us!" Uncle Henry responded, clearly pleased with Rex's compliment.

Rex wasn't concerned whether Uncle Henry's claims were true. At present, he was satisfied with their efficiency.

An hour later,

"Young man, I'll take my leave now. If there's any issue with the fence, feel free to contact me, and I'll come to fix it." After bidding farewell to Rex, Uncle Henry departed in his pickup truck.

After seeing Uncle Henry off, Rex returned to the backyard. Seeing half of it enclosed by a white fence made him very happy. With these fences, he could prevent unwanted access by people or pokemon, thus avoiding damage.

Of course, Rex would arrange for proper security, especially considering the high hopes he had for these three plants.

The construction of the backyard fence cost Rex 10,000 Alliance Coins. Though his wallet shrank again, he didn't feel too bad.

Currently, aside from selling Mareep wool, their farm produced 80 liters of fresh milk daily.

The local agricultural merchant, John, sent someone daily to collect milk from the Miltanks. He purchased the fresh milk at 40 Alliance Coins per liter.

Though this price might seem low, the process of turning the fresh milk from the large tanks into bottled Moomoo Milk sold at stores required multiple steps of processing.

Considering this, the Rex Farm's monthly income from selling fresh milk alone approached nearly 100,000 Alliance Coins, far exceeding the income from selling Mareep wool.
