17 Chapter 17: Starter Pokémon

Rex released all the Pokémon he captured today, and for a moment, the hall became crowded.

After Rex and the group of Pokémon finished dinner, he turned to Yuli and said:

"Yuli, you can choose a Pokémon from Oddish, Sandshrew, and Poliwag as your starter Pokémon. Of course, they need to recognize you as well. Let's get acquainted first!

If none of them suits you, I'll take you to capture another one later. Never force it!"

The Pokémon Rex recommended to Yuli were all in their initial forms, more suitable for beginners to train.

"I know, boss. I will do my best."

Yuli also understood this point. Since these Pokémon were not captured by her own strength, she needed to gain their recognition through action to make them obedient.

Afterward, Rex recalled Heracross and the other Pokémon back into their Poké Balls, leaving Yuli with these three starter Pokémon before heading to the second-floor bathroom.

"How did it go? Have you made a decision?"

About an hour later, Rex descended from his room to the first-floor hall.

"Boss, I've made my choice. I choose Oddish, and Oddish has agreed to become my starter Pokémon!"

Excitedly, Yuli said to Rex while holding Oddish in her arms.

"Oh, congratulations then. I hope you and Oddish can progress together in the future!"

Knowing that Yuli had chosen her starter Pokémon, Rex also breathed a sigh of relief. Otherwise, he would have to take her to the Orange Forest later.

Then, Rex said to the remaining three Pokémon:

"Nice to meet you all in the future!"

Both Oddish and Sandshrew behaved quite normally, nodding at Rex one after another.

Only Poliwag looked disdainful, pursing its lips at Rex, as if saying:

"You old fox, you tried to ambush me while I wasn't paying attention and now you think you're on top of the world!"

Seeing Poliwag's attitude, Rex couldn't help but find it amusing, walking over to pick it up.

Although Poliwag still had a proud look, it didn't resist Rex and allowed him to hold it.

After picking up Poliwag, Rex found its skin slippery and wet, giving a cool sensation, as if holding a cold water bag.

Then, Rex also touched the heads of Oddish and Sandshrew to let them know he hadn't ignored them.

The next day, early morning.

While Rex was still asleep, he suddenly felt something cold on his face.

Opening his eyes, he saw that Poliwag was using its tail to rub against his face, giggling to itself.

"You're quite the little mischief-maker!"

Rex held Poliwag in his hand and rubbed its soft body.

"Poli, Poli!"

Poliwag complained unhappily about Rex's actions.

"Boss, now that we have so many more Pokémon, our food supply is running low. We need to purchase another batch as soon as possible!"

During breakfast, Yuli said to Rex.

"Yeah, I'll find time to go to town and purchase some more. But we can also grow some ourselves. After all, we have plenty of unused land now."

Rex, munching on a sandwich, replied vaguely.

This was also Rex's idea. Previously, the grass and fruit trees he evolved using his ability had grown very well.

According to their growth rate, the grass should be ready for the Mareep to eat in about a month.

However, the fruit trees, being cultivated from seeds, would take at least a year to flower and bear fruit.

So Rex planned to buy some fully grown plants from the store, which would quickly bear fruit.

But these things weren't urgent. Today, Rex planned to arrange training plans for the Pokémon so they could start training according to the plan.

First, Tailow was very disciplined, training whenever there was time. In the morning, it would continue with its weight flying training as planned, while in the afternoon, it would spar with Heracross to improve its skills.

Then there was Heracross, which already had considerable strength but lacked flexibility. Rex planned to create a complex terrain for it. In the morning, it would run with weights in the field, while in the afternoon, it would spar with Tailow to improve its skills.

As for Bellsprout, Rex hoped it could learn the move Grassy Terrain. This move could continuously heal the injuries of Pokémon on the field and promote the growth of plants, making it a powerful skill.

After all, Rex's ability could only be used three times a day, and now that there were more Pokémon, he couldn't take care of each one individually. Therefore, teaching Bellsprout the move Grassy Terrain was necessary. Moreover, once it learned it, he could also teach it to other Pokémon, giving him three assistants with this move.

Of course, Rex didn't expect Bellsprout to figure it out on its own. Whether it could learn it and how long it would take was uncertain.

Rex planned to use his ability as much as possible on Bellsprout every day, except in special circumstances.

Because Grassy Terrain was a move generated by combining life energy with grass-type energy, and Rex's ability happened to be life energy. Combined with Bellsprout's own grass-type energy, it would undoubtedly greatly help in learning the move.

Of course, whether this idea could be realized would depend on the subsequent developments, but it had to be tried.

As for the other Pokémon, like Shiny Mareep, Poliwag, Sandshrew, and Bellsprout, Rex planned to train them himself. After all, these starter Pokémon were young and without anyone watching over them, they probably wouldn't train properly.

At this time, they had finished breakfast and were playing games with the Mareep in the yard, unaware of the torment awaiting them in the days to come.

"Poli!"

Suddenly, a Poliwag felt a chill all over its body, but after looking around and finding nothing, it resumed its lively bouncing without concern.

One week later, early morning.

"One, two, one, two, keep up and don't fall behind, work hard, work hard!"

Under the morning sun, a young man led a group of Pokémon, jogging into the sunrise.

But this wasn't an ordinary jog; they were all dragging a rock behind them, including the young man.

This was Rex training the Pokémon. After a week of training, he could feel the progress of the Shiny Mareep and its companions.

Compared to the beginning, the size of the rocks they were dragging had clearly changed, indicating an improvement in their strength.

Rex firmly believed that the body was the foundation of everything. As long as the physical quality improved, the future potential would also increase.

At the beginning of the training, when the Mareep were tired, they would lie on the ground and refuse to move. At this time, Rex didn't scold them but continued his own exercises.

He trained the Pokémon while training himself.

Initially, when Poliwag saw that Rex didn't come to urge them to train, they also lay down and refused to move.

But watching Rex run circles dragging a rock, watching his sweat-soaked clothes, they inexplicably felt guilty.

Subsequently, the first Pokémon began to follow Rex's footsteps, and one by one, all the companions followed suit. After that, they didn't stop training due to

 fatigue and persevered.

Seeing this scene, Rex also breathed a sigh of relief.

In order to persist until the Mareep had the determination to train, he had run for a full hour, during which he had to use his ability to heal himself once, or he wouldn't have been able to endure it.

Fortunately, it was all worth it. The saying goes, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If Rex hadn't taken the lead himself, these little guys would definitely not have had this perseverance.

Yes, Rex's training method was actually based on the military training from his previous life.

Although he didn't have the opportunity to be a soldier in his previous life, he knew that during military training, the veteran sergeants would lead the new recruits through physical training. Only through shared hardship could they become brave warriors defending their homeland.

The principle was the same, perhaps when the Pokémon became stronger in the future, Rex's method would no longer work.

However, when the Pokémon were weak, this method was very effective because Pokémon were simple creatures. If you treated them well, they would repay you doubly.
