CHAPTER 18: GRIT AND GROWTH: FLINT'S ROCK POWER MEETS HARU'S EVOLVING STRENGTH

The next morning arrived, bringing a sense of anticipation as Haru and Flint met once again at the formidable Pewter City Gym. The air crackled with electricity as they stepped onto the battlefield, ready to engage in a fierce Pokémon battle. The referee reiterated the rules, and both trainers nodded in agreement, their determination shining in their eyes.

Flint wasted no time, unleashing his first Pokémon with a flourish—Rhyhorn, a rugged Rock and Ground-type powerhouse. Kasumi and Brock in the crowd murmured in surprise, unsure of how Haru would counter Flint's formidable choice. However, instead of being deterred, they watched with curiosity, eager to see Haru's strategy unfold.

.

.

"Kasumi, why are you looking so concern?" Brock asked with a look of confusion.

"Ummm, Haru doesn't have any Pokemon who have advantage to defeat a rock-type Pokemon." Kasumi said hesitantly.

"WHAT!!" Brock shouted in surprise, looking at the battlefield again, "I really don't know how will Haru defeat Dad."

.

.

Haru remained composed, unfazed by the doubters. He calmly reached for his Poké Ball and released his Pidgey onto the battlefield. Murmurs of disbelief filled the air as the small, unassuming Normal and Flying-type Pokémon stood before the massive Rhyhorn. All eyes were on Haru, awaiting his surprise move.

"A Pidgey? How will Pidgey defeat the leaders' Rhyhorn?"

"I don't know, don't ask me as I will lose if I use Pidgey."

"What an interesting choice! How will this Pidgey defeat Rhyhorn."

The battle commenced, and it became immediately clear that Pidgey's speed was its greatest asset. Darting around the battlefield with incredible agility, Pidgey evaded Rhyhorn's powerful attacks. However, Pidgey's own attacks barely made a dent in Rhyhorn's sturdy exterior.

"Pidgey keep on using Quick Attack! Be it on offense or defense!" Haru commanded.

"Rhyhorn! Endure a bit and use smack down when opportunity comes!" Flint said to Rhyhorn.

.

.

"Hmmm, A battle of Attrition. I don't think Haru will win on this one." Brock speculate as he look in the battle.

"How so?" Kasumi questioned.

"My dad trained Rhyhorn especially in stamina as Rhyhorn's speed is not that fast, he made sure that Rhyhorn can last longer in every battle amongst Pokemon who specialize in speed." Brock said to Kasumi seriously.

"Haru... Fight on!!!" Kasumi couldn't help but to bit her lips a little then shouted to Haru while raising her fist.

.

.

As Brock said earlier, the battle turned into a war of attrition. Eeach Pokémon wearing down the other bit by bit. The tension grew palpable as the crowd watched the unexpected clash between the diminutive Pidgey and the formidable Rhyhorn. Sensing an opportunity, Flint seized the moment.

"Rhyhorn! Smack Down, NOW!!" Rhyhorn then unleash a powerful Smack Down attack, dealing a significant blow to Pidgey.

But Haru wasn't about to give up. With a quick command, "Pidgey! Roost!" Pidgey used Roost, healing the damage it had taken while slightly lowering its own attack power.

The battle grew more intense, with both Pokémon nearing their limits. The Smack Down attack had taken its toll, slowing Pidgey's speed and making it vulnerable to Rhyhorn's powerful Take Down move.

But Haru, never one to back down, saw a glimmer of hope. With a surge of determination, he called out a risky strategy. "Pidgey, combine Quick Attack and Wing Attack into one move!" he shouted. The crowd held their breath, waiting to see what would happen next.

"WHAT!!!"

"Kasumi, is this the strategy that he's been thinking for quite some time?" Brock as anxiously.

"I... I- I don't know! Don't ask me, little kid! Just watch!" Kasumi glared at Brock and look at Haru with concern.

Pidgey responded to its trainer's command, its wings glowing brightly as it underwent a remarkable transformation. In a burst of light, Pidgey evolved into the majestic Pidgeotto, its wings now adorned with a metallic sheen—a testament to its newly acquired Steel Wing move.

.

.

Flint, who saw this, smiled and laugh loudly as he commanded Rhyhorn, "RHYHORN! SHOW THEM WHY WE ARE ARE CALLED THE GYM LEADER HERE IN PEWTER!! SHOW THEM THE POWER OF ROCK-TYPE POKEMON!!"

Rhyhorn also responded to its trainer's command, its body then glowed brightly as it also underwent an evolution like Pidgey. As the light faded, Rhyhorn evolved into the tank Rhydon. Rhydon then roared loudly and created tons of sharpened stones around him and launched it to Pidgeotto who ignored those moves. Flint then commanded it to combine Stone Edge with Drill Run.

Then the two collided, creating tons of smoke and explosion in the arena. As the smoke cleared and the battlefield became visible once again, the crowd erupted into cheers and applause. Pidgeotto, with its newfound strength, had clashed with Rhyhorn, who had unleashed a Drill Run combine with Stone Edge. The resulting explosion left both Pokémon lying on the ground, unable to battle.

The referee declared a double knockout, stunning the crowd. The spectators roared with excitement, appreciating the valiant effort put forth by both Haru and Flint. The gym buzzed with admiration for the two fainted Pokémon, recognizing the indomitable spirit displayed in the battle.

Haru and Flint, with mutual respect, recalled their exhausted Pokémon, acknowledging their hard-fought battle. They exchanged nods, knowing that their rivalry had brought out the best in each other.

As the crowd's cheers filled the gym, Haru and Flint shared a moment of reflection. They had pushed each other to their limits, showcasing the bond between trainer and Pokémon and the strength that could be found in unexpected places.

With the firs matched concluded, Haru and Flint look at each other as they decided who will be their last Pokemon.

.

.

"Th-That WAS AWESOME!!!!" Brock shouted loudly as he saw the battle of Pidgeotto and Rhydon.

"Ye-Yeah! I also did not expect that end of battle." Kasumi said as she look at Haru with admiration.

"Both Dad and Haru use combination moves which is not that much use by your average trainers as it is hard to pull off. But both Dad and Haru did it! And the double knockout, I've only seen it for the first time!" Brock happily said as he analyzed the battle.

"Now, let's watch again. I want to know the ending of this battle." Kasumi said to Brock.

"Yes! Yes!" Brock nodded.

.

.

The electrifying battle between Haru and Flint at the Pewter City Gym had reached a pivotal moment. As their previous Pokémon, Pidgeotto and Rhyhorn, retreated from the battlefield, a surge of anticipation filled the air. Both trainers locked eyes, their unwavering determination evident as they prepared to unleash their final Pokémon.

Flint, the seasoned gym leader renowned for his rock-solid strategies, called forth his trusted companion, Graveler. The brawny Rock and Ground-type Pokémon emerged, radiating strength and resilience. The crowd murmured in awe, fully aware of the challenge that lay before Haru.

Haru, his heart pounding with anticipation, knew that his next move would shape the outcome of the battle. With a resolute nod, he reached for his Poké Ball and released his partner, Eevee, onto the battlefield. Eevee, small and unassuming, stood before the towering Graveler, ready to prove its worth.

The referee's voice cut through the tension. Haru and Flint nodded in acknowledgment, their focus unwavering as they prepared for the final clash.

The battle began, with both trainers fully aware of the high stakes. Graveler lunged forward, its massive form barreling toward Eevee. Haru's eyes gleamed with determination as he swiftly issued his command.

"Eevee, dodge with Quick Attack!" he called out. Eevee's nimble form blurred as it evaded Graveler's initial onslaught, demonstrating its unparalleled speed. The crowd erupted into cheers, impressed by Eevee's evasive prowess.

Flint's face displayed a mix of surprise and admiration. He knew he couldn't underestimate the potential of Haru's Eevee, and so he rallied his Pokémon, readying it for the next move.

Flint said, "Graveler, Stone Edge!"

Graveler unleashed a powerful Stone Edge, sending a barrage of stones hurtling toward Eevee. However, Eevee's speed paid off, enabling it to expertly dodge the rocks with finesse and grace. Haru's strategic command had paid dividends, gaining an early advantage.

.

.

"Another Speed Battle!" Brock said with a hint of surprise.

"Haru likes to battle using speed! Back then, he defeated me and Cerulean City Gym leaders using fast attacks!" Kasumi proudly said.

"Why are you the one who's proud? You did lose to him." Brock mumbled.

"..." Kasumi looked at Brock speechlessly.

.

.

As the two talked, the battle intensified as Graveler retaliated with a mighty Bulldoze, shaking the ground beneath Eevee's paws. Dust and debris filled the air, momentarily obscuring the battlefield. The crowd held its breath, eager to witness the outcome of this epic clash.

From within the chaos, Haru's voice rang out, "Eevee, Swift attack!" Eevee emerged from the haze, its eyes gleaming with determination. With a burst of energy, it unleashed a dazzling display of star-shaped projectiles, each one finding its mark on Graveler's sturdy frame.

Flint, undeterred, strategized his next move. "Graveler, use Rollout!" he commanded. Graveler began to gather momentum, its form transforming into a spinning force of power and determination.

Haru's mind raced as he assessed the situation. He knew he had to act swiftly. "Eevee, Double Team!" he shouted. Eevee multiplied, creating illusions that surrounded the battlefield, confusing Graveler and creating openings for counterattacks.

Graveler's Rollout clashed with the illusions, its power dissipating as it struck the decoys. Seizing the opportunity, Haru commanded, "Eevee, Dig!" Eevee vanished beneath the ground, evading Graveler's assault.

The crowd watched in awe as Eevee emerged from below, unleashing a devastating Dig attack on Graveler from an unexpected angle. Graveler, caught off guard, staggered from the powerful blow.

Flint, his eyes narrowing, recognized the resourcefulness of his opponent. With a determined nod, he bellowed, "Graveler, Rock Polish!" Graveler's form glowed as it increased its speed and agility, determined to turn the tide of the battle.

Haru's heart raced as he assessed the situation. He knew that time was of the essence, and he had to act swiftly to secure victory. "Eevee, Swift into Quick Attack!" he commanded. Eevee's Swift attack then transformed into a rapid onslaught of stars, as it combined its speed with a devastating Quick Attack.

"Another Combination move! It's Swift and Quick Attack this time!"

In a flash of brilliance, Eevee weaved through the flurry of stars, launching itself toward Graveler with incredible velocity. The collision between the two Pokémon sent shockwaves through the battlefield, engulfing the area in a dazzling explosion of power and determination.

As the smoke cleared, the crowd watched with bated breath. The referee's voice cut through the silence, "Both Pokémon are down and unable to battle!"

"WAIT!" Flint shouted suddenly.

The referee look at the Gym Leader, confused, then looked at the Two Pokemon. He then saw that Eevee stood up hard and shouted a little.

"Graveler is unable to battle! Eevee wins! Which means that, Haru from Lagoon Town... WINS!!"

The arena erupted into thunderous applause and cheers, acknowledging the valiant efforts of both Haru and Flint. It was a testament to their skills, adaptability, and the unbreakable bond they shared with their Pokémon.

Haru and Flint, their gazes locked, exchanged nods of respect. They had pushed each other to their limits, showcasing the true essence of a Pokémon battle. The crowd showered them with admiration, grateful for the thrilling spectacle they had witnessed.

As Haru recalled his exhausted but triumphant Eevee, he couldn't help but feel a surge of pride. Their journey had been a series of challenges and victories, each battle molding them into stronger trainers.

"Congratulations! Haru and Kasumi! I present to you two, The Boulder Badge!" Flint and Brock Congratulate the two of us and handed the boulder badge. Making it two out of eight gym badges.

[ Ding! Congratulating the Host for getting the second badge! Giving Rewards! ]

[ Rewards List! Congratulation to Host for getting TM71: Stone Edge - The user stabs the foe with a sharpened stone. It has a high critical-hit ratio. ]

As I got my Rewards from both Flint and The System, Kasumi looked at me with a hint of admiration. She then grabbed my hand and asked, "Hey! How did your Eevee learned Dig and Double Team? I haven't saw you training those?"

Haru then said with a shrug, "I just train and they learned it."

Before Kasumi punch me in the face, the door to the gym suddenly opened and a person came running anxiously in front of Flint and said, " BAD NEWS FLINT! SOMEONE STOLE THE FOSSILS AND MOON STONES IN THE MUSEUM!!"

Flint, who was happy earlier, turned angry and said seriously to the person, "Who is it?"

The person gulped nervously and said, "It's..... The Team Rocket!"
