22 Allied Gym Leader

Turning around after hearing the voice behind me. I see a man wearing a karate uniform walking up to me with an easygoing smile. Next to him was a Hitmonlee who was looking at me warily.

"Yes, I'm here to battle the dojo!" I enthusiastically respond adjusting the incubator in my grasp.

Clefairy who was next to me, saw the Hitmonlee and tried to do some kicks to imitate the others. But this just ended up making it comically fall over to which it bounced up due to how soft the pink fluff was.

Taking off my mask and cap I store them into my bag. The guy who saw my face immediately got a surprised expression.

"I saw you on TV you're Forrest, right? You just won the Saffron Tournament a little bit ago, the names Paul!" The guy said with his eyes practically glowing. Knowing that this kind

"I'm heading out of the City soon and figured I should challenge the dojo in hopes of a Pokemon," I respond making him nod. With this, he started to guide me through the area past multiple people like him who were training here.

It didn't take long until we arrived at the main building where he opened the door.

*Creak*

Looking in front the first thing to enter my vision is the back of a girl with grey hair which had a bob-cut with a ribbon.

Realising who this was I take a peek over her shoulders to see that a battle was taking place. There were two Pokemon, one was a Hitmonlee and another which was a Clobbopus. Both of the Pokemon already looked worn out and it looked like one move could end the match.

"Clobbopus {Detect} then use {Feint}!" Bea shouts. The cute little fighting octopus with boxing gloves closed its eyes and dodged the incoming hit of Hitmonlee.

Hitmonlee missing it's {Low Sweep} takes a step back and gets ready for Cobbopus's attack. Clobbopus getting up to Hitmonlee fakes a jab which the Pokemon falls for and dodges to the left.

The octopus expecting this dashes to the side using its multiple small legs and gets a direct hit on the off-balance Hitmonlee.

*Boom*

"Lee!" The kicking Pokemon cried out as it was sent back a couple of steps. This ends up ending the match as Hitmonlee couldn't get up after the hit.

*Thud*

"Hitmonlee is knocked out making Clobbopus the winner of this battle. The victor of this fight goes to Bea from Stow-on-Side Galar!" The referee announces. With the battle finally over Bea did a little bow before walking up to the dojo master to receive the badge.

"That was a good battle young lady, but you shouldn't be so stiff in a battle. You need to enjoy the feeling of a battle." The man I assume to be the dojo master says. Bea silently taking the badge doesn't change her facial expression but just stares at the guy.

"A Pokemon battle is meant to be won. Not for our enjoyment." She simply states. The dojo master not finding anything wrong with her words just carefully nods.

"Well, I guess you are correct. You'll get to pick your Pokemon right after my next battle. Take a seat off to the side" The guy says pointing at me. Bea turning around spots me and gets a glint in her eyes.

"Oh no!" Paul shouts with panic clear in his voice, thinking that we had some bad blood between us. I just beat her in a tournament after all.

But I know due to the anime that she's not like that. There is a high chance that's different because of this being a younger Bea though.

Looking at Bea she just nods at me before making her way to the bench at the side of the small battlegrounds in the building.

Nodding back I make my way to the other side of the Dojo master. He was a tall man burly man with spiky hair. He had a white headband and a black belt signalling his strength in the dojo.

"I welcome the winner of this year's Rookie winner. My name is Hulk and I am the Karate Master of the dojo." He announces doing a little stance.

"Hello sir, I'm here for a gym battle," I respond with a grin. This will be exciting but the Pokemon I'm gonna be using is unexpected.

"Oi Paul it's your turn to ref!" A man says from the side. The guy next to me nodding, scurries his way to the side middle of the grounds

'This is a true equal playing field.' I thought to myself seeing the unique coloured woods being used as a battlefield.

It was flat and perfect for a short-quarters battle.

"Alright, are you ready to start?" Hulk asks taking out a Pokeball. Nodding at the guy I tell him how many badges I had which was zero of course. This was mandatory for him to know. The guy realising this is my first gym battle gets a smirk as he sends out his Pokemon.

*Phsszszst*

"Hitmonchann!" The punching Pokemon growls out seeing that it was gonna battle. Looking at Clefairy, I nudge it over.

"You got this buddy." I encourage. Clefairy realising it has to battle the intimidating punching Pokemon got a terrified look. The little fluff getting a scared expression looked between Hitmonchan and me more than once making me chuckle at it.

"Clefairy…" It sighs in resignation practically saying.

'I can't avoid it I suppose.'

The little fluff getting in front ready to battle starts to tense itself up. Paul the referee seeing that everyone was ready quickly started the battle.

Bea had an interested look seeing my choice in this battle.

'Why didn't he use Scyther.' She thought to herself looking at cute Clefairy.

With the battle started I decided to make the first move.

"{Minimize} quickly!" I command. My opponent realising what I wanted to do immediately acted.

"Use {Fake Out} Hitmonchan."

Before Clefairy could set up. Hitmonchan kicked the ground to dash forward and successfully disrupted Clefairy with a {Fake Out}.

"Fairy!" Clefairy cried out being sent backwards. But due to this space.

"Keep on using it," I say seeing the newly made space between the two Pokemon. The little fluff nodding at my words successfully sets up.

A light glow was stuck to Clefairy for a second as it shrunk a little.

"Hitmonchan don't let up and use {Power-Up Punch}!" The dojo master shouts. Hitmonchan engulfed its fists with a saturated brown, getting ready to charge.

"Dodge the attack and use 0% shock {Stored Power}." I quietly say making it so my opponent couldn't hear it.

Hitmonchan dashing forward for the second time in this battle tries to hit Clefairy but misses as the height difference and size made it difficult.

Clefairy jumping into the air charges up some energy that doesn't use up its boosts.

"Fairy!" A pink circle quickly made its way towards Hitmonchan which it couldn't dodge. With this, a pink hue covered the Pokemon and it was suddenly sent flying towards the other side of the battlegrounds.

*Thud*

"Chan!" It cried out impacting the floor. Seeing that Clefairy was still at a distance I smirked.

"Clefairy use one more {Minimize}."

Clefairy hearing this gets another glow which makes it even smaller which made it half its original size.

"Hitmonchan get up and use {Mach Punch}."

"Now go for an {Encore}."

Hitmonchamp regains itself and enhances its fists as it blasts forwards. Clefairy who was doing a dance made the Hitmonchan get a weird feeling.

"Fairy fairy fairy!" Clefairy shouted as it dodged multiple attacks at once. It didn't matter how fast they were, Clefairy was able to slip past all of them tiring down the punching Pokemon.

"100% shock {Stored Power}!" I shout seeing the opportunity.

"Use {Vacuum Wave} to disrupt its attack Hitmonchan," Hulk said seeing the severity of the situation. Hitmonchan trying to use {Vacuum Wave} ended up just using {Mach Punch}, which made its eyes widen in surprise.

Clefairy now fully charged up and used up all the {Minimize} energy, sent a shockingly fast pink circle towards Hitmonchan.

"Chan?" Hitmonchan panicked as it floated upwards. This didn't last for long as a huge shock wave could be heard as it was sent downwards with power.

*Boom!*

Hitmonchan hitting the ground become unresponsive and with a quick look from the referee showed the results.

"Hitmonchan is unable to battle making Clefairy the winner. The victor goes to Forrest from Pewter City!" Paul announces.

Both Clefairy and I heard the results pump our fists up into the air in joy.

"Let's go Clefairy!" I cheer running up to the fluff ball and hugging it with a single hand as I still had the incubator in my hands.

"Fairy fairy!" It responded feeling my joyous mood.

While this was happening Hulk returned Hitmonchan to its Pokeball and walked up to me with a huge smile plastered to his face. Regaining myself I shake the guy's hand.

"That was a brilliant fight, I wish you good luck on your Pokemon Indigo League journey! We can go get your new Pokemon now. You're able to get 1-2 Pokemon depending on what the pack decides." He says handing me a badge.

Looking at the badge it had a design of a red wooden fist of a Hitmonchan with a wooden leg and a Hitmonlee intersecting the middle.

"Thanks!" I respond taking the badge. With this, I followed Hulk as he walked towards the entrance

"Little lady you should come over here as well."

Hulk opening the door makes his way to the two battlefields I first saw when entering the place. It had a heap of a load of Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee training in sync.

Following him with both Clefairy and Bea, I suddenly hear her talk.

"That was a good battle. Clefairy did really well." She said in a neutral tone.

"Thanks. Say what Pokemon are you gonna choose, Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan?" I question wanting to start some small talk. As we were walking Bea got an aloof look as she was seemingly thinking.

"I don't want either to be honest. Focusing on only one type of fighting style is a weakness." She says after some thought.

'It wouldn't be too bad to be an acquaintance with her.' I thought to myself hearing her answer.

"Wanna get acquainted with some sweets later? Saffron is the biggest City in Kanto after all, my treat of course." I offer, scratching my chin. Bea hearing my words started to drool a little.

"Sweets? Okay." She says instantly without a thought. Right after these words we arrived at where Hulk stopped at the battlegrounds.

(A/N: Believe it or not this would work. As Ash and Korrina separately did this exact same thing in the anime as strangers lol)

The three of us stopping in our tracks see that there were multiple Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee and a few Tyrogues gathered up.

Hulk turning around extended his arms to his sides and exclaimed loudly.

"These are the best of the best the dojo has produced over these few years. I usually wouldn't do this but I know you two have connections to keep up with these Pokemon." Hulk explains to us. Apparently, because both Bea and I have connections and potential guaranteed to be such strong trainers, he's giving us the choice between his best batch.

In hindsight it made sense.

Why give his best Pokemon to random trainers that he doesn't see any talent in or have connections to stronger trainers? Unless the winner was a really talented trainer he could see enter the top 8 in the Indigo League, there was no point to give his Pokemon out for free to rot in their teams.

Looking at some of the Pokemon I started to smirk. There were four Hitmonlee, five Hitmonchan and two Tyrogue.

"Because Bea won her battle before yours, I assume it's okay to let her get the first pick?" Hulk says not wanting to start any bad blood. I proceed to agree with his words making Bea step forward.

All the Pokemon part of the "strong" group started to crowd Bea eagerly wanting a trainer. It seems like these guys were eager to visit the outside world and have countless battles.

Unfortunately for the evolved boys, Bea wasn't interested in the Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan evolutions and wanted a Tyrogue.

"You come with me." She simply states pointing at the Tyrogue she thinks has the better potential. The Tyrogue's expression lightened up at her words and happily ran to her.

"Ty tyrogue!" It said hugging her legs. Bea for the first time in my sight, smiled at the Tyrogue and picked it up.

"You'll grow up to be a strong Pokemon." She said cuddling the thing. The other Pokemon physically deflated seeing that they weren't picked this time which sucked.

"Amazing!" Hulk said seeing this sight got tears in his eyes while clenching his fists. Soon after this interaction dojo master patted my back. It seems like it's finally my turn. "It's your choice now champ."

'Shit I can't make up my mind. Can't I just get one of both evolutions?' I panicked looking and the now invigorated Pokemon who saw me.

(A/N: Do you prefer Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan? I personally like Hitmonlee but Hitmonchan has more coverage moves in battles)
