.....

A commotion could be heard coming from somewhere in the vicinity of the building's rear, and it sounded like a massive stack of papers was falling to the ground. He flashed a grin and then headed in that direction before swiftly turning around and returning to the small room that functioned as Oak's office and was tucked up between two particularly enormous machines. Professor Oak greeted his grandson as he stood up from where he was kneeling on the floor straightening and cleaning up papers and a few books that had fallen to the floor.

"I swear I was only taking a short nap," said the Professor in a good-natured manner as Ash got on one knee and helped pick up the mess. "I swear I was only taking a short nap." "I wasn't getting any shut-eye at work."

While Ash and the Professor were rearranging the papers and books on the table, Ash reminded his grandfather that it was time for everyone to get some rest. "Even Superheroes like you can feel exhausted every once in a while," she said.

Oak scoffed and ran a hand through his hair, which was almost entirely white at this point. "Bah," he said. "Don't be ridiculous, but on the other hand, I'm relieved to see you here so promptly. In a statement that got straight to the point, the elderly man remarked, "I wanted to give you your birthday present before it got too late in the day." "Be my follower."

Oak then turned and led Ash out of the corner of the office and across the laboratory, pausing in front of a massive machine that had glass doors that closed off what appeared to be some kind of walk-in closet. Oak moved to open one of the doors, motioned for his grandson Ash to go ahead and enter, and then followed his grandson into the chamber.

"So which one are we going to be working with today?" inquired Ash as he looked at the pokeballs that were being neatly stored in the small glass cabinets that were fastened around the walls. "And where exactly are we going?"

"We're not going anywhere today," the Professor said as he walked over to a specific cabinet and opened the door of a small glass cabinet. "We're just going to stay here." "On your birthday, I won't make you go out in the field to collect data. He then turned around to face Ash, took a pokeball from where it had been, and closed the door behind him. Both individuals exited the chamber and retraced their steps to the beginning of the laboratory, entering the open space in front of the primary entrance.

"Enough with the mysteries," grinned Ash, certain that he was aware of everything that was taking place. "What's going on?"

Oak grinned as he handed Ash the one and only pokeball and then continued. You and I have been collaborating on projects for the past ten years. We've collaborated on research projects, during which we've sometimes found ourselves in difficult circumstances, but we've always been able to work through them and emerge victorious. As Ash took the pokeball from Oak, the latter remarked, "I believe it's safe to say that you've earned the right to be considered a trainer." "And I believe it's only fitting that your first Pokémon should be the one with which you've linked the most intimately with while I've been teaching you," the trainer said.

"No way!" The expression on Ash's face broke into a broad grin as he remarked. He exclaimed, "This is too fantastic!" as he launched the pokeball into the air so far that it came dangerously close to hitting the ceiling of the laboratory. "Pikachu! "Exit the building!"

Oak beamed as he watched the red and white pokeball explode open in the air, releasing the radiant white energy of the Pokémon inside. This energy then shot down to the ground, where it converged into the recognisable shape of the squeaky creature. Oak chuckled to himself. Pikachu, as soon as it was solid enough to move and even before it had completely taken on all of its yellow colour, cast about to get a feel for its surroundings and, having spotted Ash immediately, leapt at him with a squeak of delight. This occurred before Pikachu had completely taken on all of its yellow colour.

Ash turned to face Professor Oak after catching the Pokémon and enveloping it in his arms. He then held out one arm to allow Pikachu to climb up onto his shoulder using the other arm. The new instructor started off by praising the professor by saying, "You're the best in the world Grandpa," and then he thanked the professor multiple times. Pikachu, who was still beaming from ear to ear, crawled from one of Ash's shoulders to the other and back again.

The Professor, who was standing with his arms crossed, responded, "That is truly my pleasure." "Pokémon just seem to appreciate you because you exude an air of innate power that they can't help but pick up on. In addition, it stands to reason. He paused to reflect for a moment before continuing, "You and Pikachu have been working together as partners for..." "wow, it's been almost five years already. In that time, both of you have demonstrated to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that you have a natural understanding of each other and are able to collaborate well. Oak stated, "Pikachu was already your Pokémon," to which the little yellow Pokémon responded by nodding in agreement. "Yes," Oak concluded. "I'm just putting in my two cents," she said.

"Still," said Ash. "This is without a doubt the most incredible day of my life. How exactly did you convince Pikachu that staying in that pokeball was for the best? I tried my best, but I was never able to persuade him to even come close to one. Pikachu appeared to be indicating that this state of affairs was going to continue indefinitely by nodding once more.

Oak had the impression that the most incredible day of your life was probably still ahead of her. He claimed that it was difficult work to do. He winked at the Pokémon as he explained, "I had to scrape and beg." "But, when I mentioned that it was for your birthday, he gave his consent."

As Ash turned to face Pikachu, he exclaimed, "That is far too cool." "But from this point forward, you won't have access to any more pokeballs. You are not permitted to laze about and do nothing all day." He refocused his attention on Oak. "This marks the beginning of my career as a fitness instructor! I'm going to head out to Route 1 to see what kind of fish I can reel in. Ashely made a move towards the exit.

"It's easy," Oak said as he followed his grandson out of the laboratory and into the morning sunlight. "Just walk behind me," Oak said. As he continued, he started to sound more and more like a parent. "Don't go too far from town, and make sure you get back before it gets dark," he said.

Ash answered, "I just have one pokeball, so there wouldn't be any use in being gone for very long anyhow." It's highly likely that all I'll end up with is a Rattata or a Pidgey. These are the only Pokémon to be found in this area at the moment."

"Supplies?" Oak yelled after his grandson Ash as the latter took out running along the primary road in the village, Pikachu following close after.

"This is more than sufficient!" Ash yelled back while gesturing with one hand and pointed at his rucksack with his index finger. "See ya later Grandpa!" After turning the bend, Ash was no longer visible as he entered Pallet Town.

Oak sighed as he leaned against the wall of the laboratory and uttered, "Amazing..." "For that level of energy to be available once more..." He walked back inside while running his fingers through his white hair and then he turned around. The Professor said, "At least he understands what he's doing, even if he does get a little excited," as he observed, "He does get a bit excited." And it was true, Oak reasoned, to think that Ash was one of the brightest pupils he'd ever trained, which was saying a lot given that one of Oak's former pupils had gone on to claw his way to the top of Indigo Plateau.
