122 Gluttonous Beast Battle

Snorlax were typically known to be fairly docile pokemon, to the point where children could play all over them and bounce on their belly. BUT, that was only so far until food was involved.

One Snorlax required AT LEAST nine hundred pounds of food per day, and that was low-balling it. They could singlehandedly wipe out entire stores of food overnight, and can pick entire orchards clean in a matter of days.

That was also why it was rare for trainers to have a Snorlax on their team, as it was next to impossible to meet the requirements to keep them fed.

When they were hungry though, a Snorlax was practically an unstoppable force of nature in their pursuit to acquire food, using their incredible strength to smash anything and everything that stood in their way. Just like how this Snorlax crushed the car in its path to get to the food in the restaurant.

"RUN!" One of the other customers screamed, triggering a mild panic as people hurried to get out of the Snorlax's way.

"MY RESTAURANT!" The head chef wailed in despair since the Snorlax would obviously pick his entire business clean of supplies, before moving on to the fish market as well. Truly, a disaster that would alarm even an Absol.

Who in their right mind would dare try to challenge and stop such a beast?

"Go, NIDOKING!"

"KIIIIIIIIIING!"

I called out my Nidoking to try and face the hungry Snorlax, who didn't even need any orders as he readily charged the rampaging Snorlax.

"King!" Nidoking growled as he grabbed one of the cars between him and the Snorlax, hefting it into the air before chucking it at the massive glutton.

"Snorlax!" It it declared irritably, swinging its arm while amassing fighting type energy to use the move Hammer Arm, swatting the car away like it was a tin can.

"Nidoking!" He roared back, charging at Snorlax to use the move Take Down on it. But it was like slamming into a wall, a wall made of pure muscle and blubber.

"LAAAAAAAAAAX!"

Snorlax responded by wrapping its arms around Nidoking like it was trying to give him a hug, not at all caring about the toxic barbs covering his body, and lifted him into the air.

*CRASH!*

I swear the fucking earth shook as Snorlax slammed Nidoking down into the ground with enough force that the street caved in slightly from the impact.

"Holy shit..." I uttered in disbelief at the display of strength. But then again, Snorlax had to be fucking ripped to haul around their own fatasses the way they did. Plus it had to have the Immunity ability that was preventing it from getting poisoned by Nidoking's barbs, which they usually obtained by eating enough toxic substances that their bodies eventually adapted.

"Nidoking needs help!" Dawn exclaimed worriedly, while May was recording everything on her camera.

"No he doesn't." I replied back casually, right as his tail swung out to smash Snorlax in the face.

Getting hit in a spot that didn't have nearly so much muscle and fat to protect it was enough to make Snorlax recoil, just slightly, giving Nidoking the chance he needed to get up. Snorlax may outweigh him by a thousand or so pounds, but my Nidoking was no pushover. He was a king of kings for a reason.

With Snorlax recoiling from the hit to the head, Nidoking quickly planted his claws into the ground for support while throwing his feet up into the air to plant them into Snorlax for a brutal Double Kick. With his natural strength, coupled with my training, Nidoking managed to unbalance Snorlax enough that the round giant staggered back several feet.

"Keep it up!" I told Nidoking, who charged back in for another Take Down.

*CRASH!*

Both of them went crashing to the ground with enough force that the earth shook yet again, though not as bad as the last time. Then Nidoking kept up the momentum as both of his arms started to drip concentrated poison, before he began to hammer them into Snorlax's head for repeated Poison Jabs.

"King! King! King! Nidoking!"

Crying out with every single hit, Nidoking repeatedly hammered his poison-covered claws into Snorlax in an attempt to make sure it stayed down.

"SNORLAX!"

With a roar Snorlax swung its fist around to clock Nidoking in the side, sending him flying this time before he crashed into a nearby house.

"Snore!" Snorlax stated defiantly as it rolled to its feet, ready to go another round with Nidoking.

"King!" Nidoking declared, equally ready to meet the challenge as he crawled out of the house.

By this point there was no more panic, as everyone who had been fleeing before froze to watch the battle between monsters. And they were both genuine MONSTERS, with my alpha Nidoking and the Snorlax standing at least ten feet tall. (A.N. note, not an alpha, just bigger than normal.)

*CRASH!*

There was another deafening crash as the duo charged one another before colliding in the middle, and then Snorlax began to push Nidoking back while he dug his claws in to gouge out two long trenches in the street. But once they reached the curb, Nidoking was able to hold back Snorlax's momentum and use it against him.

In a feat of strength that made even my eyes go wide, Nidoking slowly started to lift Snorlax up into the air over his head, before slamming it down with enough force to create the biggest impact yet.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

This time I KNOW the earth was shaking beneath our feet as Snorlax hit the ground, creating an impression in the asphalt as it did so. I even heard several alarms from the cars that hadn't been destroyed start going off from the vibrations.

"KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!"

Nidoking gave a roar of triumph over his opponent when Snorlax didn't move, before several people began to cheer and applaud his strength and power.

"That Nidoking is amazing!"

"It's a monster for sure!"

"Not only that, it looks like an alpha too!"

I puffed my chest out a little at their praises for Nidoking, feeling more than a little cocky after his display of strength.

"He did well." Lucario nodded in approval beside me.

"'He did well'?! Nidoking was AMAZING!" Misty declared excitedly.

"Right!?! That was a great battle!" May said as she turned her camera off, probably having caught the footage she needed for May's Expeditions.

"Awesome..." Joy uttered slowly.

"It was." I said while stepping forward towards Nidoking and the Snorlax.

"That was excellent." I told him while placing my hand on his side.

"King!" He declared, saying 'of course!'

"Get some rest." I added while pulling out his pokeball, returning him to it for just that. And once the massive form that was Nidoking was gone, I turned my attention towards Snorlax.

It was now issuing a steady rhythmic rumble from snoring after being knocked unconscious from the impact, but once it awoke its appetite would return with a vengeance.

"Sorry about this professor." I muttered out loud, pulling out another Heavy ball like what I had used to capture Onix a few days ago, and tapped it against Snorlax's side.

This time it disappeared as it was sucked inside the ball, which gave a few shakes before falling still with a soft ding. I then sent it back to the lab as the alarm that I was over my limit began to sound, silencing it as I turned back towards the crowd.

"Well, that's that." I said lamely, before several of them began to rush at me.

"Thank you so much sir! You saved my restaurant!" The head chef declared with tears in his eyes, seemingly forgetting that he had been kicking me out just a few minutes ago.

"Forget the restaurant! He saved the entire town!" Another declared, despite the fact they weren't an official town just yet.

That one made me smile wryly as I glanced around at the destruction caused by the battle, but thankfully the League also financed insurance companies to cover damages caused by wild and rampaging pokemon. They had even footed the bill entirely to rebuild Lavender town after it was leveled by Mewtwo and Gengar.

Hopefully the same thing will happen here...

"Sol."

The crowd fell silent as Absol approached me then, with each of them throwing looks of distrust and anger at it without hesitation. It was obvious they blamed Absol for the attack.

"I don't want to hear a single word against Absol out of anyone's mouths." I said suddenly, silencing any potential threats or outbursts of anger and ignorance.

I then continued while putting my hand on Absol's side, "Absol do not cause disasters, but can sense them shortly before they happen. When they do, they try to warn those who would be afflicted by the disaster, and even try to save them if possible."

Absol gave a jerk of its head in affirmation of what I was saying, however the look of distrust on the people's faces remained unchanged.

"How can you be so sure?" One of them asked.

"Do you see her?" I asked, pointing to May. "Several of you may know her from May's Expeditions, but she is also the daughter of professor Birch from Hoenn, which is home to a majority of the Absol in this part of the world. He even has one on his team."

The people blinked in surprise when I said that, even before May pulled out her trainer card to show that it said May Birch on it along with a mark that identified her as Birch's assistant. But I didn't stop there.

"She is also the research assistant of professor Rowen from Sinnoh." I added pointing to Dawn, before pointing to myself and saying, "AND I am one of professor Oak's research assistants, as well as being a Ranger. Within the Rangers Absol are classified as a special pokemon. If one shows up in front of you, then heed whatever warning it's trying to give."

By this point I had effectively drained the wind out of all of their sails, as it was completely pointless trying to argue pokemon with THREE assistants to regionally famous pokemon professors, especially when one of them literally had an Absol on their team. So, I turned back to the Absol that was here right now, and said,

"Thank you for the heads up Absol. It was much appreciated."

"Sol."

Returning my thanks for ensuring there was no disaster, Absol then turned to leave since it's job was done.

"Hold on Absol!" I called out to it, making Absol pause.

"How would you like to travel with us?" I asked it eagerly.

"Sol?"

"Yes! We would very much like it if you joined us! I am a Ranger, so it's my job to help people and pokemon when there's trouble, like the Snorlax. If you join us, then we would be able to know when something is going to happen, and try to warn people before it does. I'm sorry to say, but people would be more inclined to believe me if I was the one warning them of danger."

As I said that I directed a pointed look to the men and women in the restaurant, who shuffled awkwardly in response.

"It's true. We could use someone like you on our journey." Lucario added, drawing Absol's attention to him this time.

"Sol.... Absol!"

Mulling it over at first, Absol then gave a cry of agreement before it made its way over to my side.

"Welcome aboard." I said, patting its side once again before making our way back to our table. "I hope there isn't a problem with us eating here?" I said to the head chef.

"Of course not dear customer!" The chef cried out in a high pitched tone as he hurried over to us.

"You are the savior of my life's ambition! So it is not only a pleasure to serve you, but I will happily give you your meal for free as thanks, as well as an apology..."

Going a bit quiet there at the end, the chef directed a brief look at Absol before asking if there was anything else we wanted to order. Thankfully we had already finished eating for the most part, so we just ended up ordering dessert while Absol sampled some of the food that was left.

Machop had also woken up during the commotion, and was looking towards me with stars in his eyes after watching the fight between Nidoking and Snorlax.

"So Ace, are you going to capture Absol?" Joy asked me curiously as we waited for dessert.

"Not just yet. If I capture it, then it will count against my carry limit. And it's not like I have a justifiable reason to register it as one of my breeder pokemon. So I'll just leave as it is for now, and then capture it later. Is that ok with you?"

Directing the last part towards Absol itself, the pokemon pondered for a moment before finally nodding its head in affirmation.

With its approval, I then scanned it to see what I would be working with, cause of course I planned to include Absol in our training.

~~~
Absol: the Disaster pokemon
Type: dark
This pokemon possesses the ability to detect disasters before they occur. They live high up in the rugged mountains, and will very rarely venture down into populated areas, typically only to warn people or try to protect them from whatever disaster it has detected. Unfortunately, the scarcity of this pokemon, coupled with them only being sighted when disasters occur, has resulted in them being widely misunderstood and hated due to popular belief being that they themselves cause the disasters. This pokemon has the Pressure ability.
Moves: Leer, Quick Attack, Double Team, Taunt, Slash, Night Slash, Focus Energy
~~~

A pretty basic moveset, though still impressive since Absol typically didn't like to fight. I would of course include it in our training simply because a lot of the situations we get into would force us to fight regardless.

Speaking of, I would also need to ask professor Oak to send over the data on Snorlax since I sent it to him without checking. But he's probably already headed home for the night already, so I can wait till tomorrow.

With my check on Absol finished, and the waiter bringing us our dessert, I busied myself in enjoying the remainder of the meal with my girls, Lucario, Machop and Absol.

...

*Ring! Ring! Ring!*

"Hm?"

I paused my morning jog when I heard my Pokenav go off in my pocket, which I pulled out while saying to my pokemon behind me, "hold on. Jog in place while I answer this."

Following by example, I answered the video call while continuing to jog in place to see professor Oak looking back at me.

"Good morning professor." I said in greeting, while also wondering why he was calling me this early.

"Good morning Ace. Or rather, it was until I got to my lab this morning." Professor Oak said, before changing the angle of his camera to show me the rest of the lab, which was completely and utterly trashed.

And I mean TRASHED.

Machines were smashed to pieces, doors ripped off the hinges, tables tipped over. It was horrible to see.

"What on earth happened?!" I exclaimed in shock.

"It appears a Snorlax managed to get into my lab last night, and raided the place looking for food. It cleaned out the fridge, cupboards and pantry, and would've cleaned out the pokemon food outside if Dragonite hadn't stepped in."

"..."

I paused slightly when I heard what happened to the professor's lab, which was obviously caused by the Snorlax I sent last night.

"Sorry...?" I uttered quietly, though surprisingly the professor didn't look too mad.

"Normally I would be annoyed at all the damage, but this actually works out in my favor since I had been wanting to remodel the lab and update my equipment for quite a while. This just gives me a reason not to put it off anymore. Plus we regularly back up the data from our research, so very little was lost."

I let out a sigh of relief that nothing too important was lost in the destruction, especially since Dragonite protected all of the pokemon food. I'd have felt horrible if they were forced to starve for a few days because of my new Snorlax.

"Also Ace, I know how much of a pain it is trying to keep a Snorlax fed while on the go, so I'll send you the Pokeblock recipe I developed back in my own trainer days. It'll give them all the nutrients their body needs, so they'll eat at a much more manageable level."

"Thank Arceus!" I exclaimed out loud at the news, as that alone would make a Snorlax SO much easier to manage. A full Snorlax was a happy Snorlax, and we ALL saw what a hungry Snorlax was like.

"Yes well, I just need a couple hours or so to make sure I get my measurements right for the size and weight of your Snorlax. After all, the amount they eat varies on their size."

"Alright, and thank you so much professor!" I told him, grateful for all the work the professor was putting in for me.

"Not at all my boy! But if I might ask, where exactly did you find such an impressive specimen of Snorlax?"

"I didn't. It found us." I told him, before recounting everything that happened last night.

"Haaa... Humans truly need to think about our actions before we act... I think I recall something about a construction project taking place in that area, so the Snorlax might've been forced to leave its home because of that. I'll personally contact the group to see if this is the case, and why the area wasn't properly surveyed to make sure they wouldn't displace any potentially troublesome pokemon."

As he said that professor Oak got a vicious look in his eye, showing just how seriously he took situations like this. And I couldn't blame him.

Pokemon were powerful creatures capable of great violence and destruction when provoked. Just imagine the destruction of a furious Charizard if it was wrongly displaced from its home.

"Before I go Ace." The professor called out to me, disrupting my thoughts as I looked back at him.

"Yes sir?"

"When you start making your way down route 11 you should end up passing a lighthouse about halfway to Vermillion city. It's the same lighthouse that Bill lives in and works. You should stop in to have him take a look at your pokemon on your way."

"!!!"

I blinked as I recalled Bill, one of the professor's previous students that focused on academia regarding pokemon instead of training and battling. Though not as well known as the professor, Bill was still recognized throughout Kanto as a brilliant researcher of pokemon, as well as a notorious collector.

Bill's specialty was evolution, and the different branches pokemon were capable of evolving into, like Poliwhirl into Poliwrath and Politoed, or Tyrogue into Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan and Hitmontop, and especially Eevee with its many evolutionary possibilities. In fact, Bill also possessed more Eevee and its evolved forms than anyone else in either Kanto or Johto.

"That sounds like a good idea professor, it's been a while since I've seen Bill anyways." I responded, already knowing him since Bill would occasionally visit the professor with his own partner pokemon, an alpha Vaporeon.

"Alright. I'll let Bill know to expect you at some point in the next few days. Also, Gary is there as well while waiting for the SS. Anne, so get along with one another, bye!"

"Wait professor-!"

*Click!*

I blinked at the blank screen as professor Oak suddenly hung up on me, before shaking my head wryly at the old man.

"Well, what can you do?" I asked no one in particular, before turning back to my still jogging in place pokemon.

"Alright, let's go!" A collective cheer resounded from them that surprised Absol, particularly from an overly enthusiastic Machop, before we continued our morning workout.
