POV: Gengar (Protector)

Location: Kanto, Celadon City

Date: 34th month of 2184

Gengar couldn't believe what had just happened. He had actually been forced to vacate and flee his charge's shadow because some youngling Gengar had managed to feel his presence even though he had been suppressing it. He could not understand how some upstart golden Gengar had managed to spot him, but it implied that he would be unable to relax inside his charge's shadow in the future, which had him rather peeved.

He would now have to keep an eye on the young human from afar like his partner Alakazam, which would require him to be much more alert than simply sticking around in the youngling's shadow. As if it was not enough that the boy kept vanishing somewhere Gengar could not follow, he now had to be more attentive while doing his work.

Not to mention what had been mentioned by those humans right before he had to vacate the area. Their charge was now on some bounty list, which meant that he would be targeted by assassins and that meant their workload would increase. The boy really did not make their job easy. Honestly, it was as if their charge felt that his life was too safe, so he was seeking out danger.

Gengar was still somewhat fine when the youngling stumbled upon some platinum or even palladium fellows, but that freaking presence he felt last month at the beach was too much. He, as a respectable member of the Aura Guardian Order, had experienced a lot of things during his long life, but at that time he had been intimidated like never before. He honestly had been afraid that he would not only fail to protect his charge but also lose his life along with that of his partner.

Thankfully, the presence which he first heavily suspected to be a legendary, and later confirmed as Volcanion by eavesdropping, had not acted against them but blessed one of young Mikail's Gyarados instead. It was an incredible occurrence, and he had to admit that he was a bit jealous of the luck his young charge along with his Pokemon seemed to have, but he had already been informed by the order's elders that their charge was heavily suspected to be a blessed one, so it was easier to accept the situation.

Frankly, Gengar suspected that if it had not been for his blessing, young Mikail would have probably perished during one of his many dangerous trips despite their protection. Regardless, after sharing the events with Alakazam, he asked her to keep an eye on their charge before he swiftly returned to Rota to give another "urgent" report to the elder in charge of the youngling's matter.

POV: Alakazam (Protector)

Location: Kanto, Celadon City

Date: 34th month of 2184

Alakazam felt for her fellow Guardian, really, she did. Gengar had already been complaining about being thrown out of the shadow whenever the youngling vanished to that separate space neither she nor anyone else could seem to follow through their spatial abilities, and it was certainly not due to the lack of trying.

Now, Gengar could not even hide inside their charge's shadow due to the remarkable young Gengar that young Mikail called out to inhabit his shadow as a protective measure due to the bounty he seemed to have earned as a result of his work with the police. She found it rather impressive that a Gengar this young as well as weak could detect her compatriot, and she could not help but be impressed by the young ghost even if it made their work a bit harder, though it would mostly be Gengar who would have to work more.

Gengar was usually a good partner, if not a bit lazy and playful, but she knew that he would be complaining about this for quite some time and she would be the one who would have to listen to his complaints. She had to admit that she was not looking forward to that. Her personal complaints aside, Gengar had left for Rota to report the situation to the order.

Honestly, their charge had a penchant for getting into dangerous situations whenever he left a city for either his exploration or training trips and sometimes even when he went out to relax. That beach episode was something she would probably never forget, and even though it had been a rather frightening experience at the time, she had to say being able to feel and experience the presence of a legendary being such as Volcanion was an honor for any Pokemon.

Even a being like her from a species said to be above petty emotions such as jealousy and envy had to admit that she felt slightly jealous of the luck her charge and his Pokemon seemed to possess. Not only was her charge suspected to be a blessed one possessing his own/personal Mirage Island, but one of his Gyarados had received a blessing right in front of her.

Not to mention the suspicion she had regarding the young Gengar who had caught a glimpse of her partner's presence. She was not sure if it had been blessed as well, but being able to sense her partner with its strength was not normal. Adding the shadow teleportation she had seen the young Gengar perform, which it shouldn't have been able to do, she suspected some legendary influence there as well.

She had refrained from mentioning it to Gengar since she was not sure yet and did not want to add simple speculations to their report, but she was confident that they would be able to confirm whether her suspicions were correct or not at some point.

POV: Alakazam & Gengar (Protectors)

Location: Kanto, Saffron City

Date: 6th month of 2185

They had just taken care of yet another assassin for their charge due to the criminal being too good at his job. This one actually had a dark gold stage Chandlure and was planning to have it siphon their charge's life force until nothing was left. While Gengar and Alakazam usually allowed the small fries to approach/target their young charge so that he could gain some experience, the same was not true for those who could pose a fatal threat.

Even though they wanted young Mikail to gain some experience and learn that his actions had consequences, the Guardian Duo still interfered just in case whenever someone above the gold stage targeted their young charge. The elder council concurred with their decision and had given similar orders. Their actions were not solely to protect young Mikail since both had seen enough to know that he could handle most if not all dark gold assassins.

If that had been their motivation, they would have only stopped those at the fifth stage. No, their aim was to prevent a confrontation between the two parties since a somewhat even fight between Mikail and any golden or above assassin had a considerable chance of escalating, which could lead to extensive property damage and civilian casualties. Not to mention that they wanted to prevent one of the assassins from getting lucky, no matter how small the odds/changes were.

The duo could not help but once more curse the criminals that had added to their charge's existing bounty, which made the bounty attractive enough to entice more professional/stronger assassins into taking a shot at young Mikail's life. They cursed the organizations behind the black market for allowing that to happen despite their agreement to push the bounty to the background.

It was quite unfortunate, that they had not broken their agreement since adding to an active bounty was not prohibited, though that did not change the fact that this action went against the spirit of their agreement, and some of the elders, chief among them their direct superior, were quite unhappy with that.

Anyway, their charge did not know about his increased bounty yet due to their interference as well as the order's actions, and Gengar, as well as Alakazam, could not help but worry about their young charge's reaction once he learned about his updated bounty. Considering his usual behavior, they could not help but worry about him taking dangerous steps that could pose a significant risk to his life. Still, he would only be informed after the end of their protection duty, so there was still some time until then.

POV: Alakazam & Gengar (Protectors)

Location: Kanto, Hope Town

Date: 18th month of 2185

Alakazam and Gengar could not help but have mixed feelings now that the end of their protection duty had arrived. On one hand, they were relieved that they could return to their leisure life. They had been rather busy this last year, and there had been more than one stressful moment within that period, so some rest, as well as relaxation, sounded quite attractive even to Alakazam, not to mention Gengar.

On the other hand, the two had taken a liking to their promising young charge and were worried about the trouble he could get into without them around to mitigate the worst of it. While they were absolutely convinced that Mikail could take care of himself even without their presence as long as the danger did not exceed a certain level, such as stage 6, their experience during this year had shown them that his coming across such a danger was not impossible, especially now that he could wander around as much as he wanted.

The fact that he could retreat to that mysterious space of his at the drop of a hat was the only thing that gave them some peace of mind. That more than his impressive lineup of Pokemon was what they saw as young Mikail's ultimate trump card. Not that his Pokemon were less impressive, since they were truly outstanding, both in strength and quantity.

Alakazam and Gengar were convinced that this boy was the most impressive, and if less politely articulated monstrous, young trainer they had ever seen or heard about. The duo was convinced that Mikail would become a historical figure of humanity as long as he did not meet a premature end, and they were proud of the fact that they had helped pave the way for him during the times he was not strong enough to ensure his own safety.

Regardless, it was now time for them to leave, but just before they left, Gengar gave Alakazam a mischievous look that made her sigh. With a cheerful laugh, Gengar vanished into one of the shadows close by and began to move in the direction of their charge. He made sure to be extremely cautious once he came within a 15-meter radius of young Mikail's shadow and carefully proceeded to move closer and closer until he slipped inside Mikail's shadow.

Gengar carefully crept behind the young Gengar who forced him to keep watch outside of his charge's shadow and briefly considered whether he should simply tease him a bit or do something bigger. Shrugging he decided to go out with a blast since he was leaving after this, so he made sure to get the angle right before kicking the young Gengar in the butt, propelling him out of the shadow and onto his trainer.

The two fell over and Genagr left the shadow while laughing happily. His form attracted the attention of the two on the ground and he gave them a mischievous wave. Just as he was about to leave, Alakazam appeared and smacked him over the head. She then turned towards their charge and apologized for the behavior of her partner.

Alakazam assured young Mikail that Gengar had only done a little prank and she explained their presence as an alliance team that was ordered to check up on all young trainers who would set out on their journey. Her partner had simply decided to play a little prank after sensing the presence of a member of his species in Mikail's shadow.

After apologizing once more, she grabbed ahold of Gengar's nape, before vanishing using a Teleport, leaving behind a confused Gengar and grumbling young trainer, who smirked/laughed upon seeing their assailant being treated like a misbehaving youngling by the polite Alakazam.

Still, whether young Mikail believed Alakazam's excuse or not was not important to her. She had teleported back to the Order's castle in Rota and proceeded to drag her misbehaving friend towards the elder's chamber. Gengar did not struggle and allowed himself to be dragged along. He even waved at the humans and Pokemon they passed on the way to the chamber, showing zero embarrassment about his situation. He felt quite refreshed after that kick, so he felt it was only fair to allow Alakazam to vent some of her frustrations as well.
