CH71 (685), The Chosen One

Once I was done checking the last Larvitar I thanked everyone for their cooperation, before leaving with Mr.Mime to look for the final batch of Larvitar roaming around this area that I had yet to inspect according to him. 'I've talked with the Tyranitar, and there is one group that you've not seen yet because it has not been lured over by the smell of our lunch session," Mr.Mime said and I could feel his disappointment at that. 'Let's head over there before moving on to the final area,' he finished and I nodded. "Alright, let's do that," I replied happy that he knew where we had to head to.

Mr.Mime teleported us first to bring us closer to the place the Tyranitar had told him about, and from there, it took us only two minutes to find the Larvitar group. There were 18 Larvitar in total along with a Tyranitar that showed up to ask us what we wanted. After stating our intention and receiving Tyranitar's approval, I began to inspect the Larvitar. Once I was done checking out a Larvitar, I gave him or her a Sitrus and Shuca Berry before moving on to the next Larvitar.

The Larvitar were quite happy to let me check them out after that, though I did hear the Tyranitar grumble something along the lines of "letting themselves get bribed by two berries". Funnily enough, he easily accepted the berries when I offered them to him after hearing that, which was quite amusing. Mr.Mime certainly found it funny enough to burst out laughing, though he did it over the telepathic channel, which I was quite thankful for since I was sure that Tyranitar would not have appreciated Mr.Mime's laughter. It was the first time I was thankful for the visual and factual discrepancy between Mr.Mime's feelings and his body.

Anyway, I quickly finished observing the Larvitar. The result was rather average, with three 5-star Larvitar among them, though none interesting enough to make it on my candidate list. Hence, we left for the final area after thanking everyone for their cooperation. 'Finally, the last area,' Mr.Mime declared after teleporting us over. 'Come on, let's start looking for those Larvitar,' he urged, clearly wanting to get things done as quickly as possible. "Sure, lead the way," I went along, not minding his impatience

He took three steps before he froze and turned around. 'Actually, how about we start another barbecue session?' Mr.Mime suggested. 'The last one managed to lure over the majority of the Larvitar, so if we put up shop in the center of the area we stand a good chance to lure them all over,' he added before following up with 'Naturally, only if you don't mind doing it', though I could feel that he wanted me to agree.

I did not outright refuse or agree to his suggestion and began to think about it first. On one hand, following Mr.Mime's suggestion would save me around an hour since scouring an area took a bit more than two hours while the barbecue took roughly one. However, ignoring the meat and berries I would have to use since that was nearly a nonfactor in my mind, I would still have to cook nearly the entire time, so the question was whether I was willing to substitute two hours of walking/searching with an hour of cooking/grilling.

"Sure, we can do that," I replied which had Mr.Mime perk up. 'Great,' he said before teleporting us once more. 'Alright, I've brought us to the center of the area,' he declared after the jump. After acknowledging his words with a nod, I took out the four grills I had and prepared them for the next bit. Once the fire was ready, I placed the berries on the grill, before calling out my cooking assistants, so that they could help us.

Before long the berries were ready and I replaced them with the first round of meat. While the meat was cooking, Mr.Mime and the girls were dicing the grilled berries. I on the other hand was slicing Hard Stones to create the palm-sized slices we needed for the meal. As I was doing that, I noticed how the aroma coming from the grill had started to attract attention, and by the time the first round of meat was done, we had more than 50 Larvitar and 3 Tyranitar waiting in line for their portion. Mr.Mime had gone up to talk to the Tyranitar after the third group showed up, and he once again got the Tyranitar to coordinate with us.

Things went according to plan from there, with more and more Larvitar being lured over. It took five rounds to satisfy all the Larvitar that had shown up, but eventually, the 318 Larvitar and 11 Tyranitar all expressed their satisfaction as well as gratitude for the tasty meal. After that tasty meal, all Larvitar fully cooperated with me, and I quickly proceeded to observe them all while my girls cleaned up everything.

During the check up I saw more than 30 Larvitar with blue potential, those with deep blue potential among them, but none of them were impressive enough to make it on my candidate list. After finishing my checkup on the last Larvitar, I turned toward Mr.Mime. 'Was that all the Larvitar in this region, or are there still some Larvitar that did not come over for whatever reason?' I inquired and Mr.Mime shrugged symbolically.

'No idea. Wait a minute, let me ask the Tyranitar,' he said before moving towards the Tyranitar. He came back less than a minute later and he was actually grinning wildly, which looked a bit unsettling. 'They told me that this is all the Larvitar that are currently roaming around in this area, so we are officially done,' he said sounding extremely pleased with that. Well, at least this time his body and mind were in synch.

"Really, that's quite fortunate," I returned. "Then let me just put away my stuff and recall my lovely assistants. After that, we can return to the previous area since the two Larvitar that appealed to me the most were there," I finished and he waved his hands, telling me to go ahead.

I did just that, I thanked my girls for their assistance before recalling them. I then put away the grills and plates as well as cups before telling Mr.Mime that I was ready to go. He gave me a happy thumbs up before teleporting us back to the third area, specifically to the spot where we had lunch, and as luck would have it, the majority of the Larvitar were still around.

I let my gaze wander around the area and luck seemed to be really on my side as both the Lightning Eater Larvitar as well as the Raw Power Larvitar were still around as well. These two Larvitar were the two that interested me the most among the candidates on my list, and I decided to pick one of them, disregarding the others. Mr.Mime did not disturb me while I was thinking and the Larvitar followed suit after Mr.Mime asked the first one that tried to approach to give me some time to think.

I eventually made my choice, so under the watchful eyes of Mr.Mime, I approached the Raw Power Larvitar and sat down in front of him. I asked Larvitar if he was interested in leaving with me, and he agreed to do so after a short deliberation. 'Perfect,' Mr.Mime suddenly piped up, and from Larvitar's startled reaction, he had been added to the telepathic channel. 'Let me just tell Tyranitar that Larvitar here is leaving with us,' he said before rushing off.

Honestly, Mr.Mime was acting quite rushed, which was not something one, myself included, would expect from a psychic type, especially not one of Mr.Mime's level, but I guess having to accompany me for 7 hours was a bit more than he had expected when he agreed to Professor Serizawa's request.

Anyway, Mr.Mime came back pretty quickly, and without losing another word he teleported us back to the facility. 'I'll inform Ishiro that you're done with your selection. Take care, kid,' he declared before popping away without giving me the chance to say anything. "I guess we'll simply wait here for the Professor," I said to Larvitar who seemed to be bewildered by the sudden chain of events, and he nodded dazedly at my words.

I took out one of the Hard Rock slices I had left over from the final barbecue session and handed it to Larvitar as a snack. That seemed to snap him out of his funk, and he happily began to munch on the slice. Once he had eaten the first slice he tugged at my pants and asked for a second one while acting cute. I naturally gave him what he wanted, and around the time Larvitar was halfway through with his snack, Professor Serizawa showed up.

"Professor Geo, I have to say that I did not expect you to inspect literally every Larvitar within our purview," he said, sounding both impressed and slightly disgruntled. "Mime chewed me out for sending him on a 7-hour job as a "short" errand," he continued, which explained why he sounded a bit disgruntled. The good Professor got berated by his Pokemon thanks to me. I suppressed the laughter that bubbled up at that and patted Larvitar on the head instead.

"And all that effort was worth it since it allowed me to find this little guy," I said fondly, attracting Serizawa's attention to Larvitar who was still munching on his snack. "Ah, yes, as long as you got what you wanted everything is fine," he said not bothering to comment more on Larvitar, which surprised me quite a bit since he was quite the special little guy.

I could not believe that Professor Serizawa either did not know about Larvitar's preciousness or that he did not care about it. I had honestly been expecting some quibbling on his part, forcing me to persuade him that Larvitar did fall under the conditions we set for my selection, but that all seemed unnecessary now. Nonetheless, I was definitely not complaining about that. His loss was my gain, after all.

"Alright, follow me inside, let's finalize our deal," he said before turning around and heading back in, obviously expecting me to follow after him, which Larvitar and I did. He led us to an office and I saw the previous female assistant waiting for us there. She had two papers for us to sign, one copy for each side, which sealed the deal in writing, and after we did that Professor Serizawa sent his assistant to fetch Larvitar's Pokeball.

I was honestly surprised that Larvitar had been captured since I had, after Mr.Mime's talk about the cooperation between the Tryranitar and the professor, assumed that most of the Larvitar were "wild", so hearing that he had been "captured" came as a surprise to me. Professor Serizawa apparently noticed my surprise because he began to explain why Larvitar had a Pokeball. It seemed they captured all Larvitar above the age of 1 to prevent poachers and other unauthorized people from absconding with Larvitar after silently capturing it with a Pokeball.

It was easier to spot someone trying to smuggle away a Larvitar than it was to spot a person with a PokeBall since such an individual would not stand out. Well, aside from the fact that he or she was in the area. Anyway, just as the Professor finished his explanation, his assistant returned with the ball, which passed to the Professor, who then passed it to me. I directly tested it out and ended up successfully recalling Larvitar after informing him what I was about to do.

Happy with that, I took out the PokeBalls of the four Magikarp I promised him, and Professor Serizawa eagerly accepted them. He quickly put them away before standing up. "Well, we're officially done with our deal, and I have some urgent things I need to check on," he said much to my amusement, fully aware that those things he mentioned were the Magikarp he just received. "Please, excuse me," he finished before turning to his assistant and telling her to escort me out, though he said it in a less direct manner.
