567 CH40 (562), Police (10)

To avoid attracting attention, Detective Monroe and I left the Police HQ in a regular getup. Considering the nature of our trip, it was better that no one knew that we were from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) after all.

Thanks to that simple decision, none of the people around us bothered to pay attention to us while we were walking down the street, at least not outside the attention one would usually garner, such as the gaze cast by a passerby along with the occasional catcalling aimed at Detective Monroe.

Checking out people passing by was somewhat of a natural reflex for most people. As for the catcalling, we were in a somewhat unsavory area after all, so some "harmless" catcalls were not unusual since Detective Monroe was an attractive woman.

Anyway, while most of the district itself was rather busy, that began to change once we started to close in on the area where our target was located. The closer we came to the house, the fewer people there were around, and the quieter it became, which in my opinion was a pretty good indicator that something was up.

Well, it was also possible that my opinion was a bit biased due to the nature of our visit. The neighborhood could have also been like that because of the number of abandoned houses since I saw more than one of those while we were closing in on the house we came for.

However, the real reason for my suspicion was the feeling I felt from the few people that either got passed by us or passed by us. I could feel the tension they all felt as we passed by one another and if that was not an indicator that something was wrong, then I did not know what was.

If there was one positive with the atmosphere here, it was that Detective Monroe and I were able to switch to a whisper while talking without attracting any suspicion since we were seemingly affected by the atmosphere around the place.

The closer we came to our goal, the more apparent it became that something was really up with the house we were heading to, since there were quite a few "hidden" lookouts positioned around the house. While none of them were on the property itself, I noticed that they were subtly keeping an eye out on not only the house but everyone who came within a certain distance of it.

Detective Monroe noticed them as well and whispered that we should simply pass by the house to avoid alerting the lookouts. We did not even look at the house while passing it, seemingly invested in our conversation, while in truth we were discussing how to enter the place without attracting the attention of the guards.

Detective Monroe proposed either trying to sneak in after nightfall or coming back with a proper search warrant and some backup. The first one did not really solve the problem of sneaking and just reduced the risk, while the second one wrecked the chance of any covert investigation of the place.

I had been keeping all my senses out/active while we passed by the house, so I knew that there was no one on the ground or upper floors. The only life signs I felt came from below the ground, with none of them feeling like a psychic or psychic type, meaning that an appearance inside a room without windows should/would not attract any attention from the guards.

So, if I/we could teleport inside the house we could investigate the place without being noticed unless they had installed cameras inside the house, but in that case, we would get busted even if we sneaked in the regular way. Having sensed the inside of the house with my senses, I was confident that I could teleport the two of us inside, so I proposed the idea to Detective Monroe, and she mulled over my suggestion for a bit before she agreed.

Decision made, we walked out of the sight of the sentinels, before covertly moving to a place that was inconspicuous but still close enough for me to teleport us inside the house. I asked Detective Monroe to grab ahold of my shoulder before closing my eyes to concentrate and focus on the room I was planning to teleport us to. Once I felt Detective Monroe grabbing my shoulder, I initiated the teleportation, and a moment later we were at our destination.

I took a look around the room to ensure that there were no cameras and I saw Detective Monroe doing the same. She then gave me an impressed look before whispering "Good job". Afterward, we made our way to the door and carefully opened it to prevent the people downstairs from hearing us, just in case someone down there had sensitive ears.

Detective Monroe asked me to keep an eye/sense out to ensure that there was no one around us and to pay attention to the people below as well as outside. She requested that I inform her in case any of those made a move that could risk our exposure. I naturally accepted the order, and we cautiously left the room, checking the hallway to see if there were any cameras or anything else that might expose us.

After ensuring that there were none, we moved on and began to carefully investigate each of the floors aside from the basement. None of the rooms contained anything suspicious. The place gave off (perfectly fit) the guise of an abandoned house.

The best we managed to find was a few hairs of various lengths and colors that seemed to have fallen off of a few people. These few hairs were the only indicator that people had been inside this place, and Detective Monroe placed them inside a few evidence bags and put them away.

Anyway, once we had scouted out the whole place aside from the basement, Detective Monroe began asking me for details on the situation of the people down there. I told her that could feel 5 humans as well as 3 Pokemon down there, and she asked me if I could immobilize the humans if we managed to deal with the three Pokemon in a swift manner.

I knew that she was not suggesting the use of Pokmeon because most Pokemon that could help in this situation were too big and them taking action might cause a commotion. We had to be as fast and silent as possible to avoid attracting the attention of the lookouts outside, so they were a no-go.

Still, while I was confident in instantly capturing the humans and even the 3 Pokemon as long as they were only below the silver stage, I gave another less risky suggestion. I told Detective Monroe that there was no reason to take a risk and suggested using Mothra/Butterfree to capture everyone downstairs.

I told her that Butterfree could become small enough to sit/wait on my head and strong enough to instantly capture them all as long as the Pokemon were not at the (high) gold stage or above.

Seeing me give her a better option, Detective Monroe agreed, so I let out Mothra, who had been watching this crime series in Utopia along with everyone else. Since Mothra knew what was going on, she shrank down to her smallest possible size and settled on my head before patting it, and whispering that she was ready. I could feel Mothra's excitement, but she made sure to stay quiet, so I just smiled indulgently at her excitement.

After Detective Monroe confirmed that we were all ready, she gave the signal and we sneaked over to the basement door. After silently opening the door, we sneakily made our way downstairs. We were able to hear voices coming from below, and after rounding around the corner we saw our targets, who seemed to be unaware of our arrival.

Mothra acted immediately and immobilized the 5 people and 3 Pokemon, smoothly capturing everyone and diffusing any potential danger. At least that's what we thought until a shadow jumped out from our right and tried to slit Detective Monroe's throat.

Our attention was drawn by this shadow, and I/we recognized it as a Sneasel, which explained why we failed to notice it with our senses and why it did not get affected by the psychic hold. I reacted immediately and blocked Sneasel before putting it in a chokehold.

Mothra directly leaned over and tapped its head, knocking it out, but surprisingly while we dealt with Sneasel, one of the criminals broke out of Mothra's psychic hold and vanished, taking all of us off guard. Yes, even the other captives, which was easy to see due to the betrayed look they sported.

Considering that we were pretty much exposed due to the escape of that one woman, Detective Monroe told me to quickly bag everything we could into evidence bags before leaving since we did not want to get entangled by either the lookouts or the criminal backup that would no doubt arrive soon.

We put away anything that we could find, not even leaving out the dust of what we assumed to be a Teleportation Gem since it was the only thing left at the spot where the lady vanished. I had a few ideas about how she could have pulled off her escape, but we had more important stuff to do, so I left it for later.

Once we had bagged everything we could spot, Detective Monroe pulled out a bag, stuffed Sneasel inside, and asked if I could teleport all of us to safety since she wanted to take our captives with us. I had to admit that I could not do that since there were too many tag-alongs for me to teleport any meaningful distance, but I shared that Mothra could do it, so she told me/Mothra to get us out of there.

Mothra teleported us straight in front of the Police HQ, and our arrival attracted quite a bit of attention due to our sudden arrival as well as the immobilized captives. Detective Monroe swiftly pulled out her badge and conscripted a few of the officers at the entrance to help us take in our captives while reading them their rights.

We had been unable to do that until now due to the flow of events, which was not a problem since we had been in an active conflict situation. While the captives were escorted to the temporary holding cells of the CID, Detective Monroe and I went to Detective Loneson to give him our report.

I made sure to mention my ideas on how the criminal lady could have escaped, which was pretty much either her being a dark energy user or having some item made out of a dark type material that could temporarily break a psychic hold, though the dark energy user idea seemed more probable.

Nonetheless, Detective Loneson told us that we had done a good job before ordering us to hand in the evidence so that it could be analyzed. He also told me that they would try to interrogate the captives the old-fashioned way until I got my hopefully positive results back.

Afterward, Detective Monroe and I watched the interrogation of the captives which was pretty much limited to just intimidation and the use of tension/pressure since according to Detective Monroe, physical interrogation was not authorized until they got clearance from the higher-ups. The same was true for my telepathy once I had my certificate.

The captives were interrogated separately and did not get to interact with one another before or after the interrogation so that the interrogators could use them against one another. They used the ancient "your partner has already admitted everything" ruse, but for now, none of the captives cracked.

After roughly half an hour, they were all escorted back to their cells, and Detective Monroe and I went back to the office. She told me that we had to write a report, so I did. After handing in my report, my shift was over, so I said goodbye to the others and left the HQ.
