It took a while for the excitement amongst my Pokemon to die down since it was not every day that one got to speak with a Legendary, even if it was in an indirect capacity for me and as spectators for them, with only Ignis really talking to Him.

While they were excitedly talking about Volcanion and Ignis, I thought about my mystery protector. The words Ignis relayed were vague enough that I was still unsure whether one of the Legendaries was responsible for it and Valcanion simply was not allowed/planning to share which one, or if he had no idea who was responsible for it and was trying to cover it up by acting wise/mysterious.

Unfortunately, I had no way to know which one was the case, so I decided to leave it be for now. I might be able to find out more once I began my journey, if not, I'd simply have to wait until my mystery protection contacted me.

If it was related to my starting protection, then it would fizzle out by itself once I began my journey, though I had no way of knowing if that happened. Unless some legendaries suddenly showed up to ask me about the protection that suddenly vanished.

Well, that or I'd be able to find out more once I was strong enough to personally come into contact with the Legendaries, but I honestly hoped that it did not take that long for me to get my answers since I did not believe that we would be able to reach that point without developing for a few centuries or even millennia.

Anyhow, I let the matter rest, and once the others eventually calmed down, I heard Hades/Gengar grumble a bit about not getting to speak to Marshadow after unlocking his lineage. I found it a bit funny since the decision whether to talk to someone or not naturally lay with the Legendaries.

Furthermore, just like we were all different from one another, the same was probably true for the Legends as well, so just because Volcanion was interested in talking with Ignis, did not mean that Marshadow would be interested in talking to Hades as well.

Not to mention that Hades only possessed a trace of Marshadow's lineage, not the whole/proper thing, so I consoled him by suggesting that Marshadow might talk to him if his lineage factor improved or he gained/did something impressive related to Marshadow's domain. I had no idea if that was really the case or not, but it was not impossible, so there was no harm in using that to motivate Hades.

Anyway, after the conclusion of this rather unexpected event, we still spent the rest of the day at the beach, and while the water types went out to swim to their heart's content, the rest of us stayed at the beach. We played with the sand, splashed in the water for a while, or flew around if that was an option. We only left the beach an hour or so after it became truly dark.

The next two days were spent inside Utopia with me supervising everyone's training and simply spending time with them afterward. During the training phases, I especially paid attention to a few of our members who were really close to breaking through to the next stage. Chief among them were Hades, Manami/Lapras, and the 4 golden Slytherin Six members.

Just like that, the weekend passed, and I reported back to duty on Arcday. Surprisingly, I ended up being informed about a new assignment, just not in the manner I expected. Instead of being transferred to another division, I ended up being assigned to the car patrol unit, so after saying my goodbyes to Officer Klein and Grozz, I was assigned to Officer Blowin, whose partner caught something and was unable to work for the next two weeks.

Well, that explained why I was suddenly transferred to the car patrol unit, and after greeting my new temporary colleague, temporary because there was no doubt in my mind that I would be transferred once more after two weeks, we made our way to the car and began our patrol.

The change in my routine for the next two weeks ended up being not all that big. There was simply much less walking involved since we only left the car if we came across something, and the patrol route was more extensive which was normal considering that we were patrolling/traveling by car.

Unfortunately, I had to admit that I actually preferred the on-foot patrol more than the car patrol for two simple reasons, the scenery was better and there was more to do. The number of matters Officer Blowin and I had to handle during these two weeks was considerably lower than the ones I handled with Officer Klein and Grozz.

Honestly, the only highlight during these two weeks was the one drunk driver who did not pull to the side and tried to escape. That turned into a decent chase, which got my blood pumping. Sadly, other than that I'd say the foot patrol was more interesting, at least for me since I did not enjoy staying cooped up in a vehicle for prolonged amounts of time.

Eventually, the 33rd month gave way to the 34th on Palkiday, which happened to be the last workday of my second week with Officer Blowin, and as I had expected I got called into the office of Chief Junsa at the end of my shift that day.

The chief informed me that I was being transferred to another unit, and this time around it was a proper transfer. I learned that I was going to join the criminal investigation division (CID) starting next week, and I could freely admit that I was quite excited about that.

During these two weeks I had twice asked about the theft/kidnapping matter, and both times I had been told the case still had not been closed, though I was not given any details. That being the case, I could not help but hope to join the unit that was responsible for that particular case, considering that I had been part of its beginning.

In my opinion, it was obvious that the case had developed past the initial theft/kidnapping, and I hoped to help Sally get back her Eevee. Well, actually it was either that, or the unit was simply inept and unable to track down the culprit. In either case, I believed that I could help.

That might sound a bit conceited, quite a bit so actually, but I was simply confident that I could be pretty useful as far as investigating stuff was concerned. I naturally did not mention all that while speaking of my request to the chief. I simply told him that I would be interested in joining that particular case in case it was still open. The chief told me that they would take my request into consideration before dismissing me.

On the first day of my prolonged weekend, I met up with Aaron in Pewter City, and we strolled around the city for a few hours before taking a stint to the Mt. Moon Mountain Range for a friendly battle. I was not surprised that my team beat him considering that he asked me to use my strongest Pokemon since he wanted/hoped to use the pressure to help some of his Pokemon glimpse the chance for their breakthrough.

However, what did take me by surprise was that his Lucario had apparently already broken through to the dark gold stage a few days ago, which Aaron kept as a surprise. Yet, dark gold stage or not, Lucario still ended up losing pretty badly since Aaron had asked for him to face my strongest, which meant he got to face Mothra/Butterfree.

A serious Motha I had to add since Lucario for some reason decided to actually taunt Mothra by saying he'd rather face Ignis/Gyarados or Stan/Gyarados since he wanted to fight a truly strong opponent to test his limits.

Honestly, there was no way that Lucario did not do that on purpose, fully knowing that it would provoke Mothra since I knew for a fact that Lucario and Aaron knew what kind of nightmare a serious Mothra was. Whatever the reason for his decision was, I hoped it was worth the trashing he got.

Anyway, since Aaron got his team trashed, we made our way to the PokeCenter, and Nurse Joy told us that the treatment would take a few hours, especially Lucario's treatment. She chastised Aaron a bit for Lucario's state, and all Aaron could do was silently listen to her scolding, which was something that I and Mothra, who was lounging on my head, immensely enjoyed.

Nonetheless, since Aaron had to wait for around 4 hours until he could pick up his Pokemon, I suggested that we go to the cinema to watch a movie. I had heard that the fourth part of the PokeRanger series had come out and wanted to watch it.

Aaron agreed to my suggestion so we went to watch "PokeRanger and the Spirit's Revenge", which, unlike the second and third movies that came out before the fourth one, was directly linked to the first movie "PokeRanger and the Temple of Spirits" that I had seen together with my parents nearly ten years ago.

We left the cinema close to two and a half hours later, and I had to say that I liked this one quite a bit more than the second and third movies, though those movies were quite good as well. They made the connection to the first movie rather well, using ideas/beliefs related to ghosts as the reason for the return of the spirit from the first part as well as its desire for revenge.

Anyway, after making a quick comment in our group chat to recommend the movie to the others, I suggested that we go to the local Aldini's for dinner and Aaron agreed. Once we were done, there was still half an hour left until the four hours were up, so we leisurely strolled to the PokeCenter, while talking about random stuff.

During our conversation, Aaron brought up the matter of my junior professorship and asked if I had already applied for it, which I denied. When he wanted to know why, I told him about the paper I had written on Skellibra, and that I wanted to send it on together with my application to ensure that the matter was a done deal.

I had actually finished that paper more than a month ago but forgot to send it in since something came up that distracted me. Ever since then, I have been postponing it for various reasons. Aaron's gobsmacked face when I told him that was quite funny.

His chastizing me for delaying something like a junior professorship out of laziness and idleness was less funny, though I knew that he was right on quite a few levels. I mean, it was not as if I had not been planning to send it in. It was just that I had been thinking that doing so before the end of the year was enough, so I allowed the matter to get dragged on.

Still, I knew that would not fly with Aaron, who liked behaving like a responsible big brother, so I kept quiet on that front and simply promised him to send both the application and the paper out tomorrow. He was satisfied with that so we finally changed the topic.

Once we were back at the PokeCenter, we said our goodbyes, and before I left, Aaron reminded me to not forget to send out the stuff tomorrow. I waved him off but made sure that everything was in order after I arrived back in my dorm.

The next morning I first sent off the application for the Junior Professor title along with my paper on Skellibra, before entering Utopia to spend the day with my Pokemon. Around noon, I briefly left Utopia to check if there had been any important calls or messages. As it turned out, Aaron had sent me a message asking if I had sent off my application, and I naturally sent him a reply that I did.

It was small follow-up messages like this that showed that Aaron truly cared about our friendship, and I made a mental note to prepare something nice for Aaron that I would give him the next time we met up. Still, having written Aaron on the matter, I announced the news in our group chat as well.

Jessie and Yu were the ones that sent back a reply within seconds, and after thanking them for their good luck wishes, I went back inside Utopia instead of waiting for more replies, knowing that the others would probably need a while to reply/react.
