19 CH19, First Pokemon Variant

Mikail and his parents walked around for another 30 minutes before they came to a clearing with a small pond in it.

There was a multitude of Pokemon drinking water or relaxing in and around the clearing.

He could see some Poliwag playing by the pond, which was great.

He hadn't seen any on their trip to Lake Hope.

His father had told him that there were members of the Poliwag line in there but none had come around their picnic space.

They had caught nothing other than Magikarp while fishing, but that had been deliberately done by his father.

He had used bait that was really attractive to Magikarp and less attractive to anything else to make sure they got only Magikarp.

With how long it still took to catch the 6 that fulfilled his father's requirement, he could agree with his decision.

Back to right now.

Unfortunately, they had left Rivers at their picnic spot and he did not think that his parents would allow him to go up to them without Rivers to keep them in line.

His guess was proven true when he tried to go near them.

Agni stopped him and his father said.

"We will bring Rivers with us the next time, then you can go up to the Poliwags but for now you can't."

He saw Caterpie, Sentret, Rattata, Pidgey, Spearow, Hoppip, and finally Sunkern on and around the clearing and the trees.

Beside the Poliwag he could see some Magikarp and Goldeen in the pond.

Anyway, he focused on the Pokemon he was allowed to touch and went towards them with his ever-present tail.

His first target was the group of Sunkern that were soaking in the sunlight.

Once he got permission to touch them, he got to work.

There were 13 Sunkern in the group and the one with the best potential was also the strongest one.

'Species: Sunkern

Gender: Female

Type: Grass/Flora

Potential: Deep Orange

Stage: (mid) Iron-stage

Genetic variation: ?

Abilities: ?

Talents: ?

Affinities: ?

Not bad for a Sunkern.'

Was Mikail's thought before he continued to make his rounds.

He checked on about 20 Caterpie before he made the Hoppips his next goal.

Amongst the Caterpie the best potential he found had surprisingly light yellow potential, when he started contemplating if he should abduct, sorry I meant to invite the Caterpie into his space he felt Emerald's stare on him and decided otherwise.

'I will be back.'

Were his thoughts before he checked out the Hoppip.

He had to jump a bit to touch some of them, as they seemed to think that it was funny to see him jump about to reach them, which his laughing parents seemed to agree on.

His mother had her trusted camera out and was filming him while laughing.

The Hoppip with the best potential turned out to be a youngling of whom he managed to get a full status screen.

This was also the best potential on a Hoppip he had seen until now.

'Species: Hoppip

Gender: Male

Type: Grass/Flora, Flying/Air

Potential: Orange

Stage: Stageless

Genetic variation: None

Abilities: Chlorophyll

Talents: None

Affinities: Grass/Flora, Air'

After he was done jumping around he focused on the last group he was allowed to come in contact with, the Sentret.

He had pet around 6 Sentret when he noticed a group of 3 Sentret near the pond.

It looked like a couple with their youngling.

The special thing about them was that even from his location, he could tell that one of the Sentret was the biggest one he had seen until now.

While he came near them, he estimated that it was 1.2 meters big compared to the average 0.8 meters.

"Le gasp."

And that was not even the biggest surprise.

The youngling had a different color and a slightly different look compared to its parent.

Mikail could not believe his luck.

He had found his first type variant if he was not wrong.

He assumed the bigger one of the parents had managed to consume some water-type material from the pond that not only increased its strength but also influenced its offspring.

The brown color of its fur changed to blue and its fur also became smoother and better fit for water entry.

He speculated that it gained its second type, the water type this way.

The reason he did not believe the young Sentret to be a pure water type was that he assumed that there would have been bigger changes to its body in such a case.

Once he was in front of them, the parent Sentret stood in front of their offspring and indicated to him to keep his distance.

Mikail's parents who noticed the situation came over as well.

"Woahhh."

Exclaimed both his parents before his father said.

"Who would have thought that we would find a variant in the park?

Variants are quite rare in Kanto.

It is quite normal that the couple is even more protective of their child than usual.

Variants are in general particularly well protected by their family members."

Mikail was surprised by the information from his father.

'Who would have thought that Pokemon on Terra do the exact opposite to outliers compared to what is to be expected of animals on earth or fans assumed happened to shiny Pokemon.

I like it, even if it is probably because of their future use in most cases.'

"Want pet Sentret.

Puh-lease."

Mikail faced his parents and took out his biggest guns.

His head was tilted, his eyes watery, his lips upturned and his look hopeful.

It worked once more, his weapon of mass cuteness landing super effective strikes and critical hits on his parents.

His mother, who identified the bigger Sentret as female began negotiating with her.

"We guarantee that nothing will happen to you or your child.

We won't hurt any of you, and we won't try to catch any of you."

"Se. Sen. Re. Sent. Se. Sent. Ret."

"My son just wants to pet your son a little and stroke all of you for a bit.

If you allow that to happen, I will give you 10 oran berries."

My mother was discussing the price we needed to pay for me to touch them.

"Sen. Sent. Ret."

"Well how about 5 oran berries and 5 cheri berries and 5 pecha berries."

"Sent. Ret."

"You're driving a hard bargain.

My last offer, I will add this azure kelp to my previous offer.

This is a good material for water-type Pokemon that will help your child get stronger."

"Rent."

The last bit seemed to convince the Sentret mother and she nodded.

She indicated with her paws to pass the azure kelp over after which she allowed me to approach them.

I first went towards the mother Sentret and stroked her a bit while checking her status.

'Species: Sentret

Gender: Female

Type: Normal/Neutral

Potential: Light Yellow

Stage: (low) Bronze-stage

Genetic variation: ?

Abilities: ?

Talents: ?

Affinities: ?'

'Not bad, really not bad.'

The mother was the strongest wild Pokemon he had observed until now and her potential was relatively good as well.

I went to the father next but he was weaker than the mother.

He was at the (mid) iron stage and had orange potential.

While this was much better than nearly all other Sentret he had checked before this, it was a bit worse than its partners.

At last, I approached the child while feeling excited.

I left the best for last and when I pet it, its fur felt denser than that of other Sentret.

Most likely to better repel water.

When I checked its status screen, I felt it was worth it.

'Species: Sentret

Gender: Male

Type: Normal/Neutral, Water

Potential: Deep Yellow

Stage: Stageless

Genetic variation: Type variant, Blessed by Water

Abilities: Swift swim

Talents: None

Affinities: Normal/Neutral, Water'

Mikail's first thought was to immediately kidnap the Sentret, but his rationality stopped him from doing something so stupid.

He naturally could not do something like that, especially when not only his parents but also Sentret's parents were watching him.

Moreover, his mother gave her word that they would do nothing so he naturally respected that.

Pffft, ahem.

The Sentret had a deep yellow potential with light green lines going through it, which meant he was bordering light green potential.

The child had an additional water type like Mikail had suspected, which not only showed up at the type line but also in the genetic variation line.

His observed function took the species type from his old world as the original and everything else as a genetic variation/mutation.

There was also blessed by water in the genetic variation line.

This was, according to his knowledge, one of the elemental blessings Pokemon could get.

Pokemon that were the first of their family line to be born with a type mutation/variation could receive this, as well as those that mutated during a breakthrough or evolution.

The elemental blessing added a +25% modifier towards the Pokemon overall strength.

That was not all that was different compared to the normal Sentret.

The child had the swift swim ability instead of the run away or keen eye abilities the others of his species normally had.

In short, it was a super-lucky find and he would definitely return to try to take it into his space when he managed to go out on his own.

After a few minutes, the Sentret mother who did not like the gleam in the human child's eyes decided that it was enough.

She gave the order and the family took the azure kelp and the berries his mother had put down as part of the deal and retreated to wherever they lived.

Mikail had to watch them leave but thought secretly.

'I will find you and I will abduct you.

So mark my words, I will be back.'

His parents decided that they had stayed at the clearing long enough and they returned to their picnic area.

Once they were there Poliwhirl confirmed that everything went alright on his part and his mother took out all their lunch.

Mikail held his nap there, right under the parasol.

After he woke from his nap, he saw his parents as they lay under the sun just relaxing.

He joined them for a bit and they played for a few hours around their picnic area.

Before evening they returned home, where they had dinner.

Mikail, who was worn out went to sleep right after.

The next morning after Mikail woke up, he thought about his next steps.

He had reached Tier 1 in both his aura and psychic path but had decided to focus on his psychic training until he became a first-class qualified psychic.

From what he knew, the next part of his training was to accumulate enough psionic energy inside his mindscape to unlock his psychic abilities.

Once he had done so, he would unlock the abilities one by one, starting with telekinesis during his time as a third-class qualified psychic.

He would unlock his minor telepathy sometime during his time as second-class and his minor psionic manipulation during his time as first-class qualified psychic.

So what he had to do now was to streamline his absorption of psionic energy and amass enough psionic energy to unlock his telekinesis.

Once he had access to telekinesis, he would train in that until it was not useless anymore, since it started at grams and had to be trained to increase its carry load.

After that, he would start to accumulate psionic energy again for the next part.

Since that was all he had to do for now and he did not know how long it would take to unlock his telekinesis, he would spend the rest of the time he normally devoted to training, doing his stretch exercises, and training his aim.

He could naturally not neglect his parents and his relaxing time.

He had to relax, play, and spent time with his parents so that he does not become bored with his training as that would only slow down his progress or he could also burn out.

No matter what it is, too much of anything is not good.

Now that he had determined his next steps, Mikail decided to spend the rest of Grouday leisurely with his parents and to implement his plan starting tomorrow, fresh at the beginning of the new week.

Mikail and his parent played a bit after breakfast and then Mikail watched TV with his father while his mother did the housework.

They ate some snacks for lunch and Mikail had his nap.

Afterward, they played memory and completed some Pokemon-themed puzzles.

Once they got bored of that his parents read to him some stories instead of telling him some from their memory and after that, they just watched some TV before Mikail went to sleep.
