Well, the first change was the most obvious one. Her species went from Togepi to Togetic, and that brought along a few changes, including the next one. The type section had an additional flying typing listed along with the fairy one, and since Togectic gained the flying typing, she directly gained the corresponding standard affinity to go with it.
It was her potential that took me by surprise or rather the percentage behind her potential since the grade itself had not changed. Seeing a row of four 7s displayed there made me think of a super lucky number.
Not to mention the fact that Togepi's or rather Togetic's potential had grown by nearly 40% thanks to the supplements, even though she already had purple potential. I definitely did some great work there while preparing her evolution support.
Togetic laughed out loud when she heard that bit and everyone else just gave an understanding nod before chuckling or laughing as well. They did congratulate her on the significant boost she managed to gain to her potential. I simply pat her head a bit before returning to her status screen.
Looking at the next bit confirmed that she had not unlocked any modifier, which brought up the question of the extras during her evolution. I got the answer to that when I made it to the talent section two section below, which used to be empty, but now sported a brand new talent.
Not only did Togetic unlock a talent, but it was even one with a super-exaggerated title. I mean Heaven's Favorite sounded like something out of a Wuxia or at least something that was usually mentioned when one talked about a protagonist.
Though, admittedly the Togepi line was a rather lucky and generally beloved one. I mean, Togetic had Super Luck as an ability and you just had to look at the 77.77% that appeared in her potential section. That alone was enough to show that she was unusually lucky, but I would not have called her a Heaven's Favorite or anything like that.
Anyway, everything would become clear once I read through the description of her new talent, so I focused on it until the description popped up. The description itself was pretty short but to the point, and when I read it, I could not help but chuckle/laugh in disbelief.
I mean what else was I supposed to do when I read "All chance-related matters go in your favor"? What kind of MC-level bullsh*t luck was that? Actually, scratch that. This was above regular MC-level luck since those guys and gals were not always lucky. No, this was the kind of luck that the absurd Gary Stue/Mary Sue protagonists had, the kind that always ended up receiving stuff regardless of what they did.
Buy a lottery ticket and win a ton of money. Pick up a rock; "Oh, it's a super precious mineral". Go to the library and pick up a book that fell onto your head; "Oh, it's a super precious cultivation technique that coincidentally perfectly fits the constitution I seem to fortunately have, even though I never knew I had it in the first place".
Togetic's new talent made me think of that kind of luck, and honestly, the first thing that came to my mind when I truly realized/internalized that, was not to go "yay", but to vow that I would not let that get to her head as it always seemed to do in all those stories I used to read. Just the thought of a "young mistress"-like Togetic made me shudder.
I mean, while this would undoubtedly be a great boon for her, and us by association, and I could think of a few ways to make use of her new "luckiness", luck was not everything. It certainly was no reason to get a super big head, even if getting one was pretty easy.
Anyway, when I released that disbelieving chuckle, I garnered the attention of everyone else, but they understood my reaction when I shared Togetic's new talent with them. There was just one second where everyone gave Togetic a disbelieving look much to her amusement before Mothra/Butterfree broke the spell and congratulated her, closely followed by Gible as well as Kimura/Tyrogue.
I was wondering who and when someone would realize that Togetic's new talent essentially made her Super Luck ability redundant. That "loss"/waste of an ability could be seen as the sole drawback of her new talent if that can be seen as one, and even then she was not the only one in such a situation.
Besides, the benefits vastly outweighed the so-called negative, so I'd say that everyone would choose Heaven's Favorite every time if they were given a choice. Guaranteed critical/pervading damage as long as she wanted it to happen was better than a mere higher rate after all.
Okay, I had to admit that I've been waxing about it because even I got a bit jealous of her Heaven's Favorite talent, but it was time to move on and look through the rest of her status screen.
Well, next up was the flying/air affinity that came with the new typing, so no surprise there. Her parameters section was unchanged, but the type relation section had gone through a big shift. Her immunity subsection remained the same, but both the resistance and weaknesses subsections had some major changes.
As far as resistances were concerned, only her dark-energy resistance was untouched. Her fighting energy as well as bug-energy resistance got upgraded from (minor) to (major), and she gained an additional (minor) resistance to grass energy. Those were the good news.
The bad news was that she gained an additional 3 (minor) weaknesses that came along with her new typing, raising her total weakness count to 5 (minor) ones. The newcomers were the energy of the electric, ice, and rock type.
I made sure to share that with her since it had a definite influence on our training and her future fighting style or rather her reaction toward moves of those types. The reaction she showed was a bit too lackluster in my opinion, so I gave Horus the go-ahead and he began lecturing her a bit on the importance of valuing one's type-resistances as well as weaknesses.
The others watched the whole thing while snickering, while I went on to look at the last part of her status screen, not really expecting anything to have changed. Well, I ended up being surprised since there did seem to be a change in her move pool that came about due to her evolution.
Actually, I was pretty sure that it was due to her unlocking/gaining her Heaven's Favorite talent. Nonetheless, her Metronome mastery went up from advanced to mastered, even though it had only reached advanced mastery less than two months ago.
It did make a lot of sense since the increase in her mastery caused an increase in the likelihood of her getting the move she wanted, or at least something close to it, and her new talent did the same since it was something probability/chance related.
I interrupted her education program taught by Professor Horus to share that piece of great news with her and she directly tested it. It seemed to work since she used Fake Tears which she directly chained with Baby Doll Eyes, causing Horus as her target to sweat drop. Well, she did not keep it up and began to giggle instead.
Anyway, with that, I was done with her status screen for now, and I asked Togetic if she wanted some time to get used to her new body, or if she wanted to directly go through with her breakthrough instead. She asked for 20 minutes to stretch her wings, literally as well as metaphorically, and when I said sure, she began flying around for a bit.
A few of the other flyers accompanied her, and a few minutes later she asked them to play air tag with her, so we got to watch aerial tag for the next 10 minutes until Togetic was a bit tired. I gave her an "energy drink", and we waited another 10 minutes to make sure that she was in peak condition for her breakthrough.
After that, everyone formed a circle around her, I wished her luck, which was kinda redundant due to her new talent, joined the others, and gave her a thumbs up, after which she initiated her breakthrough to the bronze stage.
I honestly could not say that I was totally surprised when more energy was drawn toward her and she began to light up a little. I had kinda expected something like that to happen due to her new bug-like luck and the fact that she was attaining light aurora potential at the bronze stage. Still, her talent was probably the main reason.
Anyway, the whole thing took longer than Gible's breakthrough had taken, but she had presumably unlocked something extra, so that was to be expected. Though all of us were excited to see what exactly that was, so the excitement was palatable when the light died down and Togetic was done with her breakthrough.
Truthfully, I failed to see any visual difference at first, so I was a bit confused. At least that was the case until I saw that the color of the triangle on her belly had changed from red to blue. That was also when I noticed that she had gone from white-white to a more creamy white. That difference became more obvious when I moved closer to her and once I noticed it, I wondered how I did not see it right away.
Anyway, in case it was not obvious, Togetic had ended up unlocking her Shiny gene during her breakthrough. Not the best modifier she could have gotten, but an overall 15% bonus was still 15% more than a regular Togetic had, right?
Obviously, I was not the only one who noticed the difference and nearly everyone excitedly rushed up to her to congratulate her even before I could finish my own congratulations. I got where they were coming from, so I simply took a look at her new/updated status screen while they were doing their thing.

Well, as I said, we had already known that she would attain light aurora potential during this breakthrough, and thankfully the Shiny gene was a level 1 modifier, so the cost of unlocking it was still low enough for her potential to actually reach light aurora. Considering that her Heaven's Favorite actually took her wants into account, that actually made sense since a level 2 modifier would have meant that she would have missed out on the light aurora grade.
The new Shiny gene was no surprise since it was a visible one, and her third/new ability was also within our expectations. Though I had to wonder if her talent actually offset the accuracy loss Hustle caused. I came to the tentative conclusion that it did as long as she actually tried aiming for/hitting the target.
I shared that trio of good news with everyone before I resumed looking through the rest of her status while they cheered. The next change was the most obvious one, her parameter section. Togetic was starting out at the (mid) bronze stage, and her parameters were higher than they would have been if not for her Shiny gene.
Her strength actually went through two boosts, one for her Shiny gene, and one due to her Hustle ability. In fact, if not for Hustle, her strength would have started at F-value instead. That bit made Togetic release a happy laugh, and after confirming that there were no further changes I declared the start of Togetic's celebration.
