8 Evolution

As Alex continued on his path through Route 1, he didn't expect to finish everything in one day. On an average, it would take a person 25 – 40 minutes to get to Viridian city and that was without encounters with wild Pokemon, that was how wide Route 1 was.

Alex didn't plan on reaching Viridian city today but rather he planned on training his Pokemon and raising their levels, If he could- he wanted to have a Pidgeot by the time he left Pallet town. After the battle with Mankey, Pidgey had gone through a couple more and Alex was surprised at the progress.

"Pidgey, Tackle!" Alex ordered.

Pidgey moved forward, her speed was higher than before and Alex made a mental note to check on his status. She tackled her opponent, Rattata and moved backward, dodging the retaliation which was a Bite from Rattata, For the hours they had been on Route 1, Pidgey had sharpened her battle instincts and now she could quickly evade and read her opponents attacks, although it wouldn't work with foes more faster than her.

"Now Gust!" Alex commanded, Pidgey had recently learned that move and he was excited. It was Pidgey's first ranged attack and he was happy, Pidgey wasn't only limited to Tackle and Sand attack.

Pidgey flapped her wings and created a gust of wind that propelled Rattata backward and smashing into a tree… There was a crunching sound but Rattata slowly stood back up, showing it's determination.

"Sadly I already have Rattata in my sub-space, I have no need for any more," Alex said and then pointed at Rattata, "Pidgey, End it with Tackle!"

Pidgey moved forward, spreading her wings to gather more momentum and then she struck Rattata with a powerful Tackle attack, making the Pokemon faint.

Alex gave a small smile and his eyes went to a tree, Caterpie was perched on, chewing on leaves.

He decided to give each Pokemon an Appraisal as it was time to head back to Pallet town.

With a new move added to Pidgey's move set, she was looking strong but Alex was sure that leveling up would be slower from here on out.

His eyes went to Caterpie and they arched in confusion, he really didn't expect it.

[Evolution: Caterpie has reached the requirements for Evolution, Would you like Caterpie to evolve? (Yes / No)]

Alex was surprised, so he has the choice of whether his Pokemon evolved or not.

"That's a nice option," Alex muttered as he pushed on the Yes button.

He didn't want to hold back Caterpie's evolution, he didn't have any time to waste- the league was coming soon and he needed powerful Pokemon to defeat his opponents.

The leaf Caterpie was busy eating drifted off the tree and toward the ground as a spectacle of lights unfolded, the area seemed to light up as Caterpie was releasing an ethereal mix of lights.

Even Pidgey had to stop and look up in awe, the ethereal mix of lights was nearly blinding.

But the evolution wasn't done yet, before Alex's eyes, Caterpie began to change forms... It's body becoming longer and greener.

The evolution ceased as slowly as it has started and Metapod stood brightly. Seeing his first Pokemon evolve, Alex couldn't help but cast a smile.

"Rest," Alex muttered and then raised the Pokeball, returning Metapod to the comfort of his own Pokeball, and then Alex turned to Pidgey.

"Soon you'll evolve too, If you stick with me- your evolution will come faster," Alex said with a bright smile and then he saw the edges of Pidgey's lips twitch and raise slightly, it was almost as if it was smiling?

Upon reaching Pallet town, Alex had quickly taken a shower and made food for himself and Pidgey.

'Seeing your Pokemon evolve is really amazing,' Alex thought.

He had seen Pokemon evolve in the anime... But he had never expected an evolution to be so... Beautiful.

It was breathtaking and he couldn't wait to see Pidgey evolve into a beautiful Pidgeotto, he wanted to share the news with someone but he didn't know what to do.

As for Metapod, in this stage, they needed to be able to bask in the sunlight to gather nutrients for their final evolution

Alex couldn't wait to see the Evolution into Butterfree, If the transition to Metapod had been bright and beautiful then the one to Butterfree would be even more breathtaking.

"Ah, do I have good luck today?" Alex wondered as the phone suddenly started ringing.

"I wonder who it could be," Alex said and dropped his bowl of noodles on the table before walking to the telephone and quickly picking it.

"Hello? Who's there?" Alex asked.

"Yo, it's me Sam," Sam replied and Alex gave a small smile.

"You're still in Pewter?" Alex asked.

"Actually I'm on the metro, heading right back to Viridian city and then to Pallet town," Sam replied, "The night shift went well, I take it,"

"Yeah," Alex gave a short reply, "Do you have my Geodude?"

"Mmm hmm, My Aunt gifted me two while I was there- I know you have Pokemon but Geodude, I wonder what your plans for this one are?" Sam asked.

"What else? I'm going to get a strong Gole- I mean Graveler," Alex replied, his eyes widening in surprise...

Golem didn't exist, not yet anyway but Alex was aware that Golem was one of the best Rock Pokemon once could have.

"Good luck to that, You're entering the circuit next year right?" Sam asked.

"Yup, Aiming to gather all my badges and head to demolish the league," Alex replied straightforwardly.

"New trainers can't do that, but surely I'm still going on the circuit next year... Let's talk more when I get to your place," Sam said, "See you in a while,"

"Sure," Alex said and hung up the call.

He had a steaming bowl of noodles to watch and so much anime to catch up on with his Iphone.

"I still haven't watched Classroom of the Elite yet," Alex said and walked back to the living room, grabbing his bowl and turning on the news.

He figured he might as well watch the news first and foremost before anything-

The reporter's voice was grim.

"Breaking news! The official battle for the Saffron city Gym will begin shortly!"

Alex gave a short smile, there was something interesting going on- probably the moment where Sabrina steamrolls the Saffron city Dojo.
