10 Chapter 9 : Controlling his Powers

Cedric noticed his excitement and said, "Don't get too excited. To utilize your psychic powers, you need to have complete control over your psychic energy. If you don't, then whenever you try to exert your psychic power, you will lose control and the result will be like that stool."

Orion looked at the stool and nodded. Had it been a human instead of a stool, the result would have been bad. He said, "Don't worry Master. I will continue training hard."

Cedric nodded. He was extremely pleased by the work ethic of Orion. Though there were many who never missed a day of meditation, Orion was the only one who not only meditated daily but also participated in all physical activities.

He said, "Good. But, since you just unlocked your power, you may lose control over them. In order to prevent any accidents, you will stay in the Gym from now on. I will talk to Amelia regarding this."

Since he didn't ask a question, Orion could only helplessly nod. That said, even if it was a question, he would have agreed. After all, he didn't particularly make any friends in the Orphanage. He spent his first 3 months in the library and the next 6 months in the Gym, only going to the Orphanage to sleep.

Cedric talked with Amelia and made the arrangements for Orion. He arranged a room for him to stay in the Gym. He brought Orion to the room. Orion checked it. The room was quite small but had all the necessary furniture. It had a small comfortable-looking bed, a writing desk, a wardrobe with a mirror, a telephone and some meditation mats.

Cedric said, "This will be a room for yourself. You know where the dining, washroom and bathing facilities are. And the phonebook next to the phone has numbers of me and a few other trainers."

Orion thought, 'A room to myself at such a young age. I didn't even have that in my previous life. Looks like talented Psychics get good privileges.'

Cedric added, "Until I say, don't try using Psychic powers by yourself. Especially when someone who can't use Psychic powers is with you. Don't meditate either."

Orion nodded. He was aware that his Psychic powers could harm him as well.

The next day, Cedric began training Orion to control his powers. He was taken to a different training room where only he and Cedric were present. Cedric said, "Everything in this room is reinforced with steel, except for those coins. So you can practice your psychic powers here without worrying about destroying anything. You will train here until I decide you have enough control."

Orion nodded. For the next month, he trained in that room daily. He would be accompanied by other instructors as Cedric was busy with other matters. Until one day, when Cedric came into the room, attracting Orion's gaze.

A young girl followed him. She possessed captivating hazel eyes that sparkled with innocence, framed by a cascade of chestnut curls. She looked at Orion and a smile appeared on her face. Her cherubic cheeks and radiant smile exuded a charm that could light up any room.

Emma thought, 'I finally caught up with him. Now I just have to master control faster than him!'

Though she was a quiet kid, unlike Orion, she was extremely competitive. Seeing Orion be the fastest to unlock Psychic energy made her meditate with even more focus than ever. And just like Orion, she had benefited from the Psychic wave.

Cedric said, "Emma will be joining you in training to improve the control over her psychic abilities."

Orion nodded and continued his training. Though the girl was cute, she was just 5 years old. He couldn't be bothered to pay her much attention. In front of Orion were 7 coins that were crumbled badly. Though his control had improved, it was still very bad.

Over the next 3 months, no other kid managed to unlock Psychic powers. Orion and Emma trained quietly in their training room. Suddenly, a smile appeared on Orion's face. He opened his eyes. A blue glow appeared in his eyes.

The instructor and his Mr. Mime, who were meditating, opened their eyes to look at Orion. 4 coins were floating in the air without moving. Orion controlled them and laid them properly on the floor.

The instructor got up and said, "Very good Orion. Your control is now at a sufficient level."

Orion smiled and said, "Thank you, Instructor Koda."

Koda said, "But you will have to keep practising in front of me for a couple of weeks more."

Orion nodded.

Emma looked at Orion. She puffed her cheeks in jealousy and complained, 'How was he faster than me again?'

She focused on her training while thinking, 'He had unlocked Psychic powers a month before me. As long as I master control within the next month, I will be able to close the distance with him.'

In the next couple of weeks, Koda was satisfied with Orion's control over his abilities. To his surprise, Emma's control also reached sufficient levels!

He continued Emma's training while Orion was sent to Cedric. Cedric wasn't surprised to see Orion. It generally took 3 to 6 months to gain sufficient control over Psychic powers after unlocking them. He gave Orion a long lecture on the precautions he needed to take while using Psychic powers and emphasized to never use them to harm normal humans. Orion listened carefully.

At the end, he asked, "Are you aware of how the League gives the starter Pokemon?"

Orion nodded and said, "Yes. The League catches a lot of Pokemons and gives them randomly to us."

Cedric replied, "Yes. But the talent of those Pokemons is usually low. As a Psychic raised by the Saffron Gym, Lady Sabrina will give you a Pokemon as well. It will be a Psychic Pokemon of Silver talent. If you raise it properly, you can increase its talent to Platinum. That will be a huge aid on your journey."

Orion was surprised. A happy expression appeared on his face as he thought, 'Good! This will be a good help! Silver talent Pokemons are hard to find and very expensive to buy!'

He quickly said, "Thank you, Master."

Cedric smiled in response and said, "You don't need to thank me. But there are still 4 years before you become a Pokemon trainer. Use this time to train your Psychic powers. It will be very helpful on your journey. You are aware of the facilities available in the Gym. Feel free to use them as long as you don't bother anyone else."

Orion didn't need to be told twice. He immediately agreed to keep training.

As he left, a smile appeared on Orion's face. He thought, 'Finally! No more adult supervision. Though they may still watch, I can do my own thing. Time to gain some actual combat abilities!'

For the first time since arriving in this world, Orion was left with little to no adult supervision. Orion thought, 'The outside world is very dangerous. While my Pokemons will protect me, I'll need to have some abilities to protect myself as well in case of a sneak attack. The best would be if I could increase my Psychic abilities to be able to form barriers or just stop an attack with telekinesis.

Unfortunately, that will be a herculean task and will require a long time. For the time being, I need to settle for something more doable. As for what that will be…'

A smile formed on Orion's face. Ever since he awakened his Psychic powers, he had always thought of several ideas on how to convert them into combat abilities. The answer was very simple.

Orion decided, 'I need to ask Cedric for a few long, sharp and sturdy needles. Something along the lines of senbon from Naruto. I'll control them with Telekinesis and use it to intercept any sneak attackers. Though there isn't much hope of using it to actually kill a Pokemon, I can stall them by attacking delicate parts like their eyes. In addition, I can also coat them with paralytic and poisonous chemicals. Until my Psychic powers increase to a level that I can use them as a Pokemon can, this will be my main method of defence.

Of course, that isn't enough. I also need to improve my physique before I set off. I need to join the neighbouring dojo. Cedric's physical exercises are very basic. I'll progress more by spending a couple of hours daily in the dojo.'

Orion thought for a bit before finalizing his plans. He immediately got to work.
