17 Chapter 16 : Orion's Decision

Though Cedric's words sounded great and were very persuasive, there were big flaws in them. Orion thought, 'If I decide to focus on only Psychic type Pokemons, how long would it take for me to catch enough to make a team?

Not to mention, Psychic types are particularly difficult to catch. Pokemons like Abra and Ralts teleport whenever they see a Pokemon Trainer. As for Beldum, they are notoriously difficult to find. So, it is almost impossible to catch hundreds of them until I can get one with high talent.

Besides, even if I can create a good Psychic team, it won't change the fact that my team will be unbalanced until a few years after I become an Elite rank Trainer. Even if raising different types of Pokemons at the same time might be difficult, I'll choose to do that over being stuck with the same type.'

Orion looked at Cedric and said, "Thank you for your advice, Master. However, I still want to raise my Rhyhorn and not limit myself to just one single type. If I feel like I made a mistake in the future, then I'll try to correct it."

Cedric was disappointed. However, he didn't say anything or force Orion to follow his suggestions. As Sabrina had said, whether Orion becomes an Elite Trainer or not is his fate. He shouldn't interfere too much.

Cedric asked, "Alright. Just remember my words and don't be nervous to ask me any questions if you face some issues or doubts. Anyway, where is your Rhyhorn?"

Orion answered, "It was very injured when I found it. I immediately rushed to the Pokemon Center and left it there. Nurse Joy asked me to come get it tomorrow with my teacher."

Cedric looked at Orion with a deadpan expression and thought, 'So that's why he informed me?'

Cedric replied, "Alright, I'll come with you tomorrow."

Orion added, "I also need your help in knowing how I can bond with it. I'm afraid that it might attack me because I caught it when it was very weak."

Cedric chuckled and said, "Don't worry. I'll help you out properly. Until I permit you, only release the Rhyhorn when you are with me. Otherwise, not only will you put yourself in danger, but you will also put others around you in danger."

Orion nodded. He had no intention of not following this advice. He had already died once and entered the world he dreamt about for years. He had no plans of dying once again so soon.

Cedric imparted some more words of wisdom before dismissing Orion. The next day, the two of them went to the Pokemon Center and met up with Nurse Joy who immediately recognized Orion.

She led them to the room where Rhyhorn was kept while saying, "Your Rhyhorn is very young. He is only one and a half months old."

Orion asked, "He? And how are his injuries?"

Nurse Joy nodded and said, "Yes, he is a male. His injuries have been healed, but he will be weak for a few days. Especially his hind leg which will take around a week to heal properly. Don't make him train excessively until his leg heals. Is he your first Pokemon?"

Orion nodded. Nurse Joy asked, "You went to catch a Pokemon without having another Pokemon with you?"

Though Nurse Joy was asking the question to Orion, her gaze was fixed on Cedric. Cedric felt awkward. It was as if he was being blamed for a crime he didn't commit. If he wasn't reputed in Saffron City, Nurse Joy would have done more than gaze at him.

Orion didn't notice her gaze and answered, "I didn't do much. He was running towards the City. I just threw a Pokeball and was lucky to catch him. Anyway, Rhyhorn can't change direction while he is running. So, I wasn't in any danger."

Nurse Joy replied, "It's good that you have knowledge. However, not all Pokemons are the same. Though almost all Rhyhorn can't change direction easily, there are always some exceptions. If this one was an exception, you could have lost your life."

Orion was surprised. However, on thinking for a bit, her words made perfect sense. Some Rhyhorns might have a slightly different physique allowing them to do so. On the other hand, some Rhyhorns could have trained themselves to be able to do so.

Though Orion didn't show any change in his expression, he was slightly more afraid. He thought, 'It looks like I had taken a bigger risk than I thought. Thankfully, my luck wasn't too bad.'

Now that Orion already had one Pokemon, he was no longer defenceless. So, he would no longer be helpless in the wild.

Nurse Joy added, "Since this is your first Pokemon, remember this carefully. To capture a Pokemon, you have to injure it sufficiently for it to not be able to resist the Pokeball's confinement. If the Pokemon can, then it'll break the Pokeball and come out unless you already have a bond with it.

You were lucky to find an injured Pokemon, but that won't necessarily be the case in the future. Once you capture a Pokemon, bring it to the Pokemon Center immediately. We will heal it and also judge whether it is tame enough to be trained. We will also make them slightly more friendly towards humans.

If a Pokemon has resentment towards you before you capture them, then such Pokemons shouldn't be trained as there is always a chance that they turn against you in the future.

As for the healing, we would heal it just enough so that it isn't in any danger but is still weak and requires caring. You need to use this caring period to form a bond with your newly caught Pokemon. Once the bond is formed, then as long as you don't abuse your Pokemons, they will be your closest friends."

Orion was surprised once again. He nodded as he thought, 'Holy crap! The humans in this world are freaking shameless! They purposefully don't completely heal the Pokemon so that the Pokemon will feel an attachment with its Trainer when the Trainer cares for it during its weak phase! What a good tactic!

Anyway, I'll need to be careful about not making the Pokemon I want to capture resent me. If I don't then there won't be any point in capturing it. Fortunately, this Rhyhorn is only a baby and was heavily attacked by others. He shouldn't be an issue hopefully.'
