Axel and his father reached the next town after crossing the forest. It would take them 2 hours to get his first official Pokemon. It was called 'Official Pokemon', not the starter Pokemon as not everyone was lucky enough to get one of the 3 starter Pokemons; Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. For that to be possible, there had to be a professor lab in every town which was simply not possible.
The second reason was scarcity. The 3 starter Pokemons were not in abundance to satisfy the demand of every young trainer. So, they got whatever Pokemon they could. And when we say whatever, almost every Pokemon was available.
The invention of the teleportation of inanimate objects like Poke ball made that possible. A Pokemon inside a Poke ball was also considered an inanimate object which frankly didn't make any sense. So, young trainers could get Pokemon ranging from the Kanto region to all other Regions.
Obviously, the cost varied a lot. Normal Kanto Pokemons cost less than Pokemons from other regions. Powerful and rare Pokemons cost more than weak and normal Pokemons.
There was also a random selection of Pokemon which costs less but the Pokemon that the trainer got was dependent on his or her luck. Axel had chosen "Random selection" type of Pokemon from a random region. It cost much less than selecting a specific Pokemon and he didn't want to pressure his parents financially.
Axel and his father had to walk for 2 hours to reach the town. Motorcycles and Cars were heavily expensive in this world compared to the Earth so only very few rich people could afford them. Although, not that dangerous but crossing the forest could be a stressful time.
So, Mr. Arron set his Arcanine as a guard to observe the surrounding. This Arcanine of his father was a very curious and happy Pokemon by nature. It just rubbed its head on Mr. Arron's foot after it came out of Pokeball trying to please its partner. They did meet a gang of Beedrill and Metapod on their journey but it was no problem for Arcanine. It just used its 'Flamethrower' and scared those bunch of Pokemons.
After crossing the forest, a beautiful town came into their view. Pollution in the Pokemon world was very less, so almost everything looked beautiful.
There were young trainers taking to their Pokemons. An Eevee running around in the circle of a young trainer, a Growlithe trying to bark loudly to sound brave, and lots of other Pokemons and trainers.
Seeing this wonderful scene, Axel became very excited and wanted to go to "Choose your Pokemon's" building as fast as he could. Axel was dragging his father to the building. After they reached the building they had to get in the queue.
The line was not that long. There were only 6 young to be trainers with their guardians. However, the process took a bit of time. After 20 minutes of waiting, the father and the son came across a middle-aged woman sitting at the table in front of him.
The woman introduced herself as Lily and rudely talked to Axel "Come quickly and give me your Pokecard and get your registration going. Many more have to do it today. Don't waste others' time".
There are 2 types of identification cards here in the Pokemon world. One was a normal Identity card and the other is Pokecard. Pokecard was normally used mainly by trainers and at other times in Pokemon competition, gym battles, and many more.
Axel handed his Pokecard to Lily. She scanned his card and started typing and saving the document. After she was done she said "Put your hand on this pad and it will take your fingerprint as biometric security and would get you officially registered as a rookie trainer. I hope I don't have to explain the hierarchy of trainers do I?".
To this he replied. "Yes, I know."
The hierarchy of trainers was not mentioned in the anime and game but it existed in reality. It helped to distinguish between lower-class trainers, upper-class, and VIP class trainers. In the Pokemon world, every trainer started from the stage of rookie.
At this level, one was qualified to get free healing in the Pokemon center and free lodging for 150 days a year altogether in Pokemon centers. Also in the Pokemon mart, one can buy low-grade potions, Pokeball, and antidotes at a discounted price. Of course, if the Pokemon was seriously injured then the cost of recovery came from the pockets of the trainers.
The hierarchy of Pokemon trainers was as follows:
1. Rookie trainer.
2. Beginner trainer.
3. Intermediate trainer.
4. Advanced trainer.
5. Master Trainer.
6. Pseudo Elite trainer.
7. Elite trainer.
8. Pseudo Champion.
9. Champion.
10. Pseudo Master
11. Pokemon Master.
There could only be one Pokemon Master at a time. When a trainer wins 8 gym badges of a particular region and then participates in the league and comes out as a final victor, he/she will be announced as the Champion.
There were many regions in the Pokemon world. Many were still undiscovered. But if the champion of a region goes to another region and becomes champion of all the eight regions and then competes with the previous Pokemon Master and then wins, he/she would be announced as Pokemon Master.
Becoming a Pokemon Master was almost an impossible dream. There had only been 2 Pokemon masters in the history of the Pokemon world. The current Pokemon Master was from the Kanto region. His name is Samuel Oak.
Yes, that professor oak who gave you Pokedex in every Pokemon game. Turns out, he was a pretty cool dude in reality. He was one of the most powerful men in the Pokemon world and his Pokemons, mainly Dragonite and Charizard were the most powerful non-legendary Pokemon in existence.

The registration was completed successfully and Axel and Mr. Arron were going to enter the room to get his Pokemon but they were interrupted by Lily, "Only trainers can come inside. Damn country bumpkins wasting time. How unlucky I was to be assigned to this task."
Hearing this Axel wasn't angry because he thought from her side. The only job of this woman was to scan the Pokecard and register the trainers. It must be a boring job. Thinking about it he entered the room. There was a huge monitor, as big as the wall inside with lights all over the room.
"Hello! I am Alex, an AI that will help you get your first official Pokemon. Please tell me which category you like to select. The categories are:
1. Specific pokemon (Cost varies on what pokemon you want and of what potential. The potential varies from low, normal, advanced, and monstrous potential.)
2. Random Pokemon of Random region (Any random Pokemon of any Random region. The cost of it will be 50000 Pokedollars.)
3. Random Pokemon of Specific region (Any random Pokemon of a specific region. The cost of it will be 80000 Pokedollars.)
"I will select option 2", said Axel.
He had already thought to go with this. Even if a normal Pokemon with low potential was selected, he was okay with it. He believed that there were no useless Pokemon, just useless trainers.
"Okay, please hand me your Pokecard so I can get the payment." said Alex the AI.
Axel gave him his Pokecard and the Monitor started randomizing the Pokeballs. After 5 seconds, 10 Pokeballs came into view.
"Please select 1 Pokeball. The Pokemon inside will be your first official Pokemon. Keep in mind that once you touch the Pokeball, the contract concludes, and that will be your Pokemon. No backsies", said Alex.
Alex thought for about 30 seconds and choose Pokeball number 2. Number 2 has always been the number he frequently came across. He was thinking to take Pokeball number 7 as 7 was considered a lucky number but then he thought that it only applieed to Taylor swift, not him. So, he selected Pokemon number 2.
"Okay, I choose you" he shouted and threw the Pokeball number 2.
A white light came from the Pokeball and a Pokemon started to emerge. The Pokeball bounce back off and came to his hand. A small, quadruped, rodent-like Pokémon came into view. It had pinkish purple with darker patches. It had large, spiny ears with teal insides, oversized front teeth, and red eyes. Its back was covered with three lines of large spines that could release potent poisons if threatened. The centerline of the spines was taller than the other two. The size of the long pointed horn on its forehead.
Yes, it was Nidoran (male).
"Congratulation, you got Nidoran (male). Its potential is at an advanced level. This concludes your choosing ceremony. Please close the door on your way out. Thank you.", said Alex.

Mr. Arron was feeling sad at this moment. If he could gather a bit of money, then his son could have got a good Pokemon. But a good specific Pokemon costs hundreds of thousands of Pokedollars. Then his son came out of the room, he asked nervously "Axel, what Pokemon did you get? Is it good? Don't worry, if u get a bad Pokemon, We will go again and take a specific category and select a good Pokemon"

His father saw the Pokemon and was satisfied. Nidoran was a good pokemon with good stats but the final evolution of Nidoran that is Nidoking had not been discovered yet.
The concept of evolution stones had just started to take effect and the applicability of moonstone, from which Nidorino evolves, was a very complicated topic. So the evolution of Nidorino had not been discovered yet.
Other close-by parents looked at his Pokemon and said in jealousy "How lucky, at least he could be an intermediate trainer"
"I wish my child could have this Pokemon"
"Yeah, they are so lucky"
