(XXVII) Finals

Isaac stared at the Quest Notification and reviewed it, 'Achieve a perfect score huh..?' He stared at it for a few moments longer before he dismissed it and took a sip of his drink before entering the schoolhouse.

He walked down the hallway ignoring all the other students that were scurrying about their business as he ascended the stairs to the second floor. Older students who were still his junior were grouped up and socializing amongst themselves before their classes started, while he walked down the hallway toward the classroom door with big white letters that wrote out "REMEDIAL COURSES" on the glass.

"Not even now..." He muttered as he shook his head and opened the door to see the only other two students taking the course with him and the teacher standing with her back to the class as she wrote on the whiteboard.

He couldn't believe he actually signed up for the Remedial Courses for students who were unable to gain entrance to PokéTech, the leading university for learning about Pokémon or to join the tri-annual Pokémon League Conference without beating eight Gym Leaders in the Pokémon League Challenge.

Still, he stuck it through to simply be brought up to speed about what has happened in this world and what things he should know without being suspicious.

He sat at his desk at the front of the classroom away from the two younger kids in their mid-teens who needed additional preparations before taking their entrance exams. Their teacher, Professor Flowers, was around his age, only a year or two older than him.

She had always worn a dark, long skirt that stopped above her stocking-covered ankles and black flats with a loose, collared blouse with buttons down the center of various colors and designs and frills around her shoulders where it ended.

Despite being in the Remedial Courses, Professor Flowers had brought in over fifteen of the older students in to battle and not a single one of them could beat Isaac, who immediately was targeted by countless students after class was over.

To the students, he had become the guy to beat to call yourself the strongest in the school. To Isaac, he had become the school bully picking on younger kids. No matter how many times he politely declined to battle he could not get away and battled an additional 35 times through the week.

"Good morning class!" Professor Flowers loudly said as everyone replied in unison, "Good morning Professor Flowers!"

"Today is the last day of your remedial courses and you will be taking the school's final exam to determine if you're ready to take the PokéTech Entrance Exams. You might also be able to join one of the few proud alumni to achieve a perfect score and receive a special prize! Let's just say this reward is not something you are going to want to miss!" She explained and smiled.

She turned to the board and explained that there were three parts to the final exam. First was the written exam that covered the technical aspects of being a trainer, types, abilities, match-ups, and so much more. Despite the assessment being over two-hundred questions, it counted for only 40% of the final score.

The second part was a three-on-three against the Exam Proctor. This would be considered the shortest section of the Finals but counted for 50% of the final score.

The last part of the finals that counted for 10% was not provided to the students and is nothing the students can adjust or change to improve their scores.

"Tch!" Isaac clicked his tongue in disappointment, 'Well, I guess I can kiss that bonus goodbye!' He thought and looked down at the desk scratching his thumb.

The written test was a joke to Isaac, and he breezed through it and was the first to leave the room and down to the gymnasium where the Exam Proctor stood at one end of the battlefield and he took his position at the other end.

Below was a large battlefield that had rocks, a pond, and some trees and tall grass, 'Figures it's a multi-field, this battlefield is suitable for at least 90% of all Pokémon.' Isaac thought to himself.

In the last week, he had raised his entire team to level 10 to match Hanzō before he decided to finally start listening to him. He had raised Ava, Artorious, and Hanzō to 11 so he was extremely confident in his ability to beat the Proctor.

Ava to pivot and provide support, Artorious to bring the power, and Hanzō to attack from the shadows. If this was all it took to achieve a perfect score, Isaac would have been cocky, but his ego had been deflated due to the final 10%.

A young man with dark hair and an orange long-sleeved shirt with Pokéball on his left chest and black slacks stood. On the back of his shirt were big bold letters "BATTLE JUDGE".

He raised a red and green flag into the air as Isaac and the Proctor grabbed a pokéball and enlarged it. When he threw both flags down each one threw their pokéball into the arena.

Isaac had thrown Ava toward the tall grass near the trees while the Proctor had sent out a small, pink, roundish coral-like Pokémon with branch-like growths on its back next to the water's edge. It had a smaller, blunt horn on its forehead. It had a light-blue underside and its four legs and two arms were blunt and stubby.

Isaac was surprised at the moves that the Proctor taught Corsola, thankfully he lead with Ava, as no one else had the means to deal with that Rock Typing.

"Ava! Use Quick Attack to blitz Corsola and follow it with Double Kick!" Isaac ordered not wanting Corsola to have too much time to set up and could only be grateful that it did not know [Recover].

"Corsola! Use Aqua Ring followed by Reflect!" The Proctor shouted as Corsola immediately began gathering water energy small droplets of water began forming around her.

Ava vanishes and she dashed forward with a bright light before rolling forward and kicking Corsola hard with both feet one after the other, launching her high into the air.

The water droplets shot into the air and grew larger as they began rotating quickly around Corsola and she began recovering she took from the Double Kick and her eyes lit up with a bright blue light as she began falling toward the ground.

"Ava! Jump and use Double Kick again to knock her way!" Isaac shouted throwing his hand out.

"Vee!" Ava mewed loudly as she launched herself into the air and began spinning forward rapidly as her two legs slammed fiercely into Corsola who barely managed to finish setting up the reflect as a bright tough gold shimmering aura surrounded her before she was kicked violently rocketed down into the small mountainous area kicking up a large dust cloud.

"Corsola!! Use Rock Polish and then use Tackle!" The Proctor yelled as Ava fell down lightly toward the ground and the Aqua Ring once more shot through the air into the dust cloud.

"Ava! Use Quick Attack to get close and finish this with a final Double Kick!" Isaac ordered as Ava began gathering energy once more before she vanished as a white blur zig-zagged toward the dust cloud.

Corsola rocketed out of the cloud as she clashed against Ava's Quick Attack. She had finished Rock Polish under the cover of the dust and launched forward tackling Ava.

Both Pokémon clashed against each other briefly as the now semi-glossy Corsola overpowered Ava and launched her away while taking minimal damage that had started to recover from her Aqua Ring.

"Ava!" Isaac shouted as she soared through the air toward a tree. Mid-air she adjusted herself and kicked off the tree and launched back toward Corsola as she charged Double Kick.

"Counter her with another Tackle, Corsola!" The Proctor shouted as Corsola quickly launched herself toward the incoming Eevee once more. Each Pokémon collided as their gathered energies collided and exploded against each other.

"Ava! Use Celebrate!" Isaac shouted having confidence that she was still standing as a brilliant light shot out from the smokescreen that was dissipating slowly.

The shadows of Corsola and a large box were slowly coming into view as stars erupted from the box and confetti shot into the air as the ribbon untied itself and all sides of the box unfolded as Ava struck a pose.

Corsola was panting heavily as she collapsed against the ground and the Battle Judge raised the Red Flag.
