16 Earning the Cascade Badge

Over the next two weeks, the group continued to travel while following the schedule. During this, Vulpix learned Flamethrower and Quick Attack, while Tentacool increased her stamina, strength, and speed by two hundred percent due to her extreme training methods. She only stopped to absorb sunlight through the gem on her head to restore her stamina and energy.

She only rested when the group rode their bikes for two hours on the path to Cerulean City. After the duration, the group arrived in Cerulean City.

"We're here. Now we part ways for the time being. Ignacio, go ahead and head to the gym. I'll go to the professor's competition. I need to hurry. See you tomorrow." Anthony yelled before running to the east.

"Goodbye." Ignacio replied before he walked through the city, wondering where the gym was as he changed directions and went to the Pokémon center first.

And once he arrived, he parked his bike outside and chained it to a sign, locked the trailer, and chained it shut. Additionally, he tied the chains into knots before entering.

Once Ignacio entered, he grabbed his Pokeballs and smiled as he walked to the counter.

"Nurse Joy, can you check my Pokémon, please? I'm worried about their health." Ignacio asked while placing them on the counter.

"Sure, may I know your name?" Nurse Joy asked.

"I'm Ignacio." Ignacio replied

"I'll check their health right away, don't worry." Nurse Joy responded before she took the Pokéballs and left to the back.

Ignacio nodded and left the counter and grabbing a bite to eat. And after thirty minutes, he finished his food and returned to the counter.

"Are my Pokémon alright?" Ignacio questioned.

"Yes, they are. You take great care of them. And I'm proud of you." Nurse Joy praised before patting Ignacio's head.

"Hehe, thanks." Ignacio replied while smiling.

"You're welcome. Here is your Pokéballs." Nurse Joy stated, bringing the Pokéballs and placing them in Ignacio's hand.

Ignacio nodded before he put away his Pokéballs and began walking out.

"Goodbye." Ignacio stated while waving.

"See you, Ignacio." Nurse Joy replied.

Afterward, Ignacio unchained his bike and trailer before grabbing a map and biking to the Cerulean City gym.

Once he arrived, he locked and chained his bike before entering and meandered through the halls, looking at all the fish in their aquariums.

'This place looks nice. Perhaps after the battle, I can take some time to watch the fish swim in the water.' Ignacio thought while smiling and journeyed through the corridors. However, he lost track of time and spent two hours just watching the fish.

During this time, he saw many species of fish, some even from his old life, which surprised him.

'Wait, I've spent too long looking. I need to battle.' Ignacio thought as he hurriedly ran towards the gym, hoping it wasn't too late.

Afterward, he quickly rushed to the gym; however, he first went to the bleachers from outside, just in case the gym leaders were performing. Once he arrived in the room, he began he looked on and saw a performance going on. Hence he sat down and watched, waiting for it to end.

After fifteen minutes, the show ended, and the audience left, and he walked to the edge.

"Hello there! I'm here to challenge you to a Pokémon battle. Do you accept my challenge?" Ignacio asked while raising his brow.

"Of course. However, I think you should come off the stage." Daisy replied while motioning Ignacio to come down.

Ignacio nodded and left the stage before entering the gym through one of the doors.

"So what are the rules?" Ignacio asked.

"Two of us will battle you. We will use one Pokémon, and we'll switch if you beat it. However, you can use two Pokémon and substitute them. Sound good?" Violet asked as she grabbed her Pokéball.

'This wasn't in the anime at all. This world is similar but not the same.' Ignacio thought before smiling a little. "Yes, that sounds great. However, do I have to stand on those boards in the water?"

"Yes, you do, so who do you want to face?" Lily asked while smiling.

"I don't have a preference." Ignacio replied before he quickly swam towards the closest board.

"Alright, Lily, and I will battle you." Violet replied before she swam to one opposite Ignacio.

Lily also swam out.

"Vulpix ready to battle?!" Ignacio yelled as he threw her Pokéball in front of him.

"Vulpix." Vulpix nodded while looking at their opponents.

"Shellder! Go!" Lily yelled while throwing Shellder's Pokéball.

"A Shellder? Interesting. Vulpix, use Quick Attack!" Ignacio instructed

"Vulpix." Vulpix nodded before jumping from floating board to floating board towards Shellder.

"Shellder, use Tackle!" Lily ordered.

Shellder nodded and dashed at Vulpix.

"Vulpix, dodge out of the way and use Ember in the opening of Shellder's shell!" Ignacio instructed while clenching his fists.

"Vul, Vulpix!" Vulpix nodded before dashing to the side of Shellder and using Ember while landing on a floating board.

"Hurry, Shellder, withdraw!" Lily yelled

"Shellder!" Shellder complied and entered his shell just before the Ember entered.

"Vulpix, grab Shellder!" Ignacio yelled, having a plan.

"Vulpix!" Vulpix nodded before grabbing Shellder and holding them as hard as she could.

"Hurry, Shellder, get free!" Lilly yelled.

"Shelld, Shellder!" Shellder tried to escape but couldn't.

"Vulpix use Flamethrower on Shellder continuously until they pass out!" Ignacio ordered

"Vulpix."[I never thought of that, I'll try it.] Vulpix replied before she used Flamethrower on Shellder's shell.

"You know fire-type moves have little effect on water Pokémon, right?" Lily asked.

After about thirty seconds, Shellder started violently squirming while Vulpix began showing signs of tiring.

"Shellder!" Shellder yelled, trying to escape.

"Shellder, hurry and escape!" Lily yelled in worry.

However, no matter how much Shellder tried, he couldn't escape.

"Shellder..." Shellder stated before passing out after a minute of being heated up.

"Shellder, return!" Lily called Shellder back and looked at Ignacio in shock.

Shellder was brought back inside the Pokéball.

"You beat a water Pokémon with a fire attack. I'm surprised. However, I don't think you have won yet. Kingler, go!" Violet yelled while throwing Kinglers Pokéball.

'Kingler? Alright, I should call back Vulpix.' Ignacio thought before smiling a bit. "Vulpix, return!"

Vulpix nodded and returned.

"Tentacool! Are you ready?" Ignacio yelled as he threw her Pokéball.

"Tentacool!" Tentacool nodded while looking at Kingler.

"Kingler, use water gun!" Violet instructed

Kingler nodded and shot a jet of water at Tentacool.

"Tentacool dodge and use Acid on Kingler!" Ignacio yelled while clenching his fists.

"Tentacool." Tentacool complied and dodged the attack before shooting a ball of acid at Kingler.

"Kingler dodge!" Violet instructed in a hurry.

Kingler nodded and barely dodged the attack. However, the acid ball hit the water.

'Oh dear, they never showed us the possible mess-ups moves can cause.' Ignacio thought, horrified, seeing the water start to be toxic. "I apologize for causing the water to become toxic." Ignacio apologized

"It's alright. The pool is cleaned after every battle and performance." Daisy comforted before smiling.

"Tentacool, use Brine!" Ignacio ordered

"Tentacool!" Tentacool nodded and shot Brine at Kingler.

"Kingler, dodge the attack and use harden!" Violet instructed.

Kingler nodded and used the move.

'So there using harden. Well, we'll have to find a new method to beat Kingler. And I don't want to use Rain Dance since while it allows passive healing, it will make it much easier. I want to have a challenge.' Ignacio thought before smiling. "Tentacool, use Brine, hold it for three seconds, and aim at Kingler!" Ignacio instructed.

"Tentacool." Tentacool complied and used the move in quick succession.

Before Violet could instruct Kingler to dodge the Brine, it hit them. And Kingler was pushed by Brine into the wall, leaving an imprint of it on the wall, and passing out.

"No, Kingler!" Violet yelled before returning them.

After the battle, the pool was cleaned, and the Gym leaders and Ignacio returned to the shore.

"You have done well, Ignacio. Seal!" Daisy clapped her hands, and Seal came to her.

"Seal." Seal opened their mouth, and the Cascade Badge was on their tongue.

"Here's the Cascade badge. You earned it." Daisy replied while holding it out for him.

"Thank you for this. I'm grateful." Ignacio replied while taking it and putting it I'm his badge case.

Daisy pats his head while smiling.

"Uh, why are you patting me?" Ignacio asked while tilting his head to the side.

"Well, to be honest, your adorable, that's why." Daisy replied while softly smiling.

"Hey, do you have any parents at all?" Violet asked.

"Well... Not parents, but I have friends." Ignacio replied while scratching the back of his head.

"Why don't we adopt you? You'd make an adorable little guy to spoil." Lily stated while smiling.

"No, thanks, but I thank you for the offer." Ignacio replied.

"Aww, alright, just know the offer still stands." Daisy replied.

"Do you want to spend the night here?" Lily asked.

"Are you sure that's alright?" Ignacio asked while raising his brow.

"Yes, we are. After all, you are adorable." Violet replied before hugging Ignacio.

"I uh..." Ignacio replied muffled before sighing and hugging back.

"Come on. I can even read you a bedtime story." Violet replied.

"Uh, sure." Ignacio replied.

"Thanks. I'm glad you are alright with this."

Afterward, Ignacio spent the night in a guest room in the gym.
