Ch 71. Origin

(Unedited)

With the sudden appearance of a purple pokemon, Ares could feel the hairs on the back of his neck rising. Just the pressure this pokemon exuded made him feel on edge.

The pokemon was completely clad in mechanical armor, a sleek black helmet covering its head to hide its facial features. Yet just the body frame, the large purple tail and its general shape made Ares think of a possible pokemon.

'Seems like Mr. Fuji was right. I was bound to meet it.'

In his back, Ares could feel Mew becoming restless, no doubt sensing Mewtwo's psychic powers.

Giving the bag a small tap, Ares calmed her down, indicating he wanted to try something first before she interfered.

"You may have gotten the upperhand before, but you can do nothing against unlimited power. This pokemon is strenght incarnate. There is no one strong enough to take it down."

Giovanni smirked, confident of his win, which was not surprising. If he had a pokemon like Mewtwo under his control, then it was no wonder that all the other trainers lost.

However...

He trusted his pokemon, especially his starter pokemon, Lucario and Umbreon. They had been through the thick of it with him, which led to him entrusting his back to them. With the information he knew, Mewtwo most likely being a psychic pokemon like Mew, his next choice of pokemon was obvious.

In a flash of blue light, his trusty Umbreon appeared on the battlefield.

No words were spoken, no glares or insults, Mewtwo remained silent, as did Umbreon.

The only sign of battle were the sudden blue glowing eyes from beneath Mewtwo's mask. Its psychic power was unleashed, rushing towards Umbreon to take him down. Mewtwo'a power was devastating, as it cracked the ground beneath its pressure.

The psychic power Mewtwo sent forward enveloped Umbreon, ready to toss him across the room, only for it to helplessly be shrugged off.

"Dark-types, a perfect counter for psychic pokemon."

Ares commented, while Umbreon had finished charging up his own attack, which turned out to be Dark Pulse. Running around Mewtwo, Umbreon attacked with all his might, the sheer pressure Mewtwo was exerting making it harder to move and execute his attacks. It took him even more effort to charge them up, making him tired in the process.

While his attacks hit their mark, Mewtwo didn't seem to be bothered. He obviously received damage, as bruises appeared and pieces of armor were blasted through the room, but Mewtwo just seemed to shrug it off like it was nothing.

Moving at impeccable speed, Mewtwo appeared in front of Umbreon, a condensed aura sphere already going full throttle between its hands.

With no time to even put up a decent protect, Umbreon was hit face first by the attack.

It impacted with a crisp sound of something breaking, making Ares lose his composure, an Aura veil forming behind the flying form of Umbreon as he caught his dear friend and partner right out of the air.

Umbreon was already unconscious and bleeding a lot, not life threatening, but it was severe.

Quickly performing first aid, Ares sprayed Umbreon with a multitude of potions, calling out Clefable as well, who took Umbreon aside and started to heal him.

Glaring at the emotionless expression of Mewtwo's cracked helmet, Ares wondered how he should go about this. He wasn't sure he could defeat Mewtwo, not with the pokemon he had left. The only pokemon who was around the same power level would be Lucario, but he had the type advantage steeply put against him.

Mewtwo definitely had the high ground, so much so that Lucario wouldn't even be able to put up a decent fight, as proven by Umbreon's quick defeat.

The only bright side in the battle was the fact that Mewtwo's armor was heavily damaged, as well as the bit of damage Mewtwo had acquired from the few Dark Pulses.

Looking backwards at Lucario, who seemed worried yet determined, they made up their mind.

If they were to be taken out, then they would do so learning everything they could about their opponent.

Lucario stepped forward, his every step heavy from the sheer pressure he felt as he walked towards the biggest adversary he had ever encountered. This pokemon he was about to fight was a monstrosity, as the immense power radiating from Mewtwo almost brought him to his knees.

With not a single move of his being strong enough to take it down, Lucario began to power himself up as much as he could. Work-up, Agility, Calm mind, Focus energy, every move that would give him an edge.

Mewtwo and Giovanni just waited, not bothered at all at this display, seeing it as a desperate struggle to get an edge, which it was.

With every move used to its maximum capability, Lucario's fur had spiked up from the sheer energy his muscles were containing, his every muscle spasming from potent force he had built up.

His eyes observed Mewtwo, spotting the places where he could land strong blows that would completely destroy the remaining armor, something he had to do before he could land major blows of Mewtwo's body.

This was the moment Lucario could feel his mind just fall silent.

On his paws, claws made from metal had formed, yet multiple energies had coalesced into a deep black. He did not really know how much of every attacking move he had put into this attack. Dragon pulse, Blaze kick, Water pulse, Bone rush, Thunder punch, Aura sphere and a lot more. All the different types of energy had formed the obsidian black claws he had, thrumming with power.

It was difficult to even hold the attack together, as the energies clashed and tore themselves up and a vie for dominance. Yet this was the only thing that might leave a mark on his opponent.

With not a moment of delay, Lucario rushed towards Mewtwo, the volatile claws poised the attack.

Mewtwo did nothing but put up his hand, a compact protect forming around it.

Striking out, the claws met the shield, an ear piercing shriek spread from the point of contact as the two moves clashed.

The remaining hand of Mewtwo came forward, almost in slowmotion as a purple energy began to form.

Lucario screamed in frustration, the claws inching closer and closer towards Mewtwo, the protect beginning to crack.

At some point, Mewtwo had finished his preparation, a beam of purple energy striking outward.

Lucario grit his teeth as he pushed forward nonetheless, putting his all in his attack.

Which proved to be the right choice, as his claws penetrated through the protect, breaking it apart and landing a hit from head to toe against Mewtwo's armor, the psybeam from before passing over Lucario's head by an inch.

Lucario panted in exhaustion, back off as he watched the wrecked armor fall from Mewtwo's bruised body.

A distinct yet shallow claw mark ran from Mewtwo's chest downwards, healing under the move recover but leaving faint marks.

Mewtwo looked at Lucario, truly looked with none of the mechanical items it had been wearing before.

Its eyes lit up in pure blue light, the psychic energy sending Lucario backwards, battering him in the process.

Lucario was too tired to even move, letting the attack hit him head on. He could feel his body sent backwards, hear Ares yell at him in worry, yet Lucario just smiled in satisfaction. He had landed a solid hit on Mewtwo, injuring it even more than Umbreon had done.

His body was racked with pain from the psychic energy, enough to want him to just pass out. He fell to his knees, grunting in pain as he could feel his conciousness waver.

Yet at some point the pain faded.

Lucario glanced up from kneeling position, a tiny pink back filling his vision.

[Enough is enough!]

Mew, his tiny little friend he had known since childhood. She had blocked the attacking psychic energy. But why? She never interfered.

Mewtwo did not respond, as only waves of psychic energy were blasted outwards.

Giovanni had backed off at some point as well, having lost control of Mewtwo.

At this point, Lucario noticed the distinct lack of audio response of his trainer.

Looking backwards, Lucario's eyes windened in shock as his trainer had collapsed to the ground.

.

.

.

He remembered the past few moments clearly.

He had been losing the battle against Mewtwo, his trusted partners being sent flying like raggdolls, battered by Mewtwo's strong attacks.

Then, the moment Mewtwo's armor had broken and Mewtwo was on the point of attacking Lucario, their eyes had met briefly. His mind had just blacked out, the scenery around his had faded.

Looking around, Ares could see nothing, hear nothing.

It space was entirely void of anything but the pure black color of the nothing.

Voices started to resound as forms of a girl and pokemon were appearing one after the other.

There he spotted the young figure that had bashed his pokemon with a single move.

He was smaller, more fragile compared to before.

Mewtwo appaered like any young pokemon, like he was newly hatched from the egg.

A small girl with blue hair was chatting with Mewtwo and the pokemon, the scenery changing to that of a town.

"I am Amber-two. Just like my other friends, we all have are clones. That's why we have a two behind our names. Just like you, you are Mewtwo."

Amber said, as they floated above the town and looked around.

[I had almost forgotten this]

Appearing out of nothing, the silent figure of the adult Mewtwo appeared beside Ares.

[It has been so long since I saw her face, I barely recognize it.]

Mewtwo sounded nostalgic, his tail flickering back and forth, just like Mew's did when she was thinking about something.

Ares wanted to speak up, but decided against it.

He had wondered where he was, but the few words from Mewtwo had already explained it.

These were Mewtwo's memories.

[We were so happy, just being in each others company, not caring about anything else. Amber, she had so many thing to explain. What were the stars, the blue sky, the pokemon around us. She knew so much of the wonders of this world. Then...]

The scenes around them faded, the figures of the clones pokemon, Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirrel disappearing in motes of light. Amber's figure following slowly in their footsteps.

The young Mewtwo stared in sadness at his friends, tears streaming from his face.

"I-I feel something... what are these?"

Young Mewtwo wiped the tears from his eyes.

At Ares's side, the adult Mewtwo began to tear up as well, the drops spilling silently down his cheeks as they watched the memory in silence.

Amber responded to the young Mewtwo, gently explaining as her body began to fade.

"They are tears. You're crying."

"Crying?"

"My daddy used to tell me a bedtime story, that when pokemon are sad and they cry, their tears are filled with light."

"I'm so... sad."

Young Mewtwo did not seem to understand what was happening to Amber, as he continued to cry, the feeling overwhelming him.

"I have to go." Amber said, a sad smile on her face.

"Why?"

"I don't know, but it's alright. Thank you for caring about me. And don't cry Mewtwo. You should be happy, you're alive and life is wonder..ful."

Ambers figure fell apart, as did young Mewtwo's world.

The world had once more faded to darkness.

The two of them stared at the place where young Mewtwo had formerly been.

[It was an experiment of the humans, one that created us just to serve their purpose. Just like I discovered that the life I am living now is nothing more than just being a slave under their hands. Like all the pokemon you humans trap in those tiny balls, to have them fight for you. Humans and their hubris are a scourge to this world. I will be free from my enslavement! Free from the control of humans!]

Mewtwo's psychic energy flared outward, just briefly, as a new memory appeared before them. Mewtwo halted in surprise, not recognizing this scenery, nor the few pokemon he currently saw in front of him.

Humans in odd clothing walked dirt roads, small wooden cabins littered the sides of the road as giant wooden fences seperated the small village from the thriving snow-covered forest.

In front of them appeared a couple, barely teens, with in their hands a young baby boy.

The young babe held a striking resemblance to Ares, who watched the memory with cold apathetic eyes.

[This is...]

Mewtwo started, watching a a young child no older than two was thrown out of the village. The child cried loudly as the gates closed, yet not before they saw an odd form of sneasel rush at the infant and tear it apart to feast on the easy meal.

"My childhood."

Ares responded, his eyes staring at the first memory he recalled from his youth.
