Podrick Payne was not a particularly sneaky man. As a squire in pursuit of a knighthood, it made sense that he wouldn't have to ever really be sneaking around. After all, he was meant to wear armor and fight with sword and lance… eventually, anyways. While he'd fought valiantly in the Battle of the Blackwater, Podrick knew that he had a long way to go before he could possibly call himself a knight. He had so much more to learn.

Which was why he was currently so anxious and so stressed out. His Lord, Tyrion Lannister, had been accused of something most dastardly. The poisoning and murder of King Joffrey Baratheon, First of His Name. Podrick knew that Lord Tyrion hadn't done it, of course. He knew that his Lord was an honorable man, for all his whoremongering and drinking. As much as a man like Joffrey Baratheon deserved death (not that Podrick would ever say as much out loud, certainly not about a King) he knew that Tyrion would play no part in kinslaying.

Still, whoever HAD poisoned King Joffrey had been undeniably smart about it. After all, who else to pin it on, then the Imp? Who else to blame for the King's death than one of the most hated and reviled men in all of Westeros? Podrick Payne knew better. Podrick Payne knew what kind of man Tyrion truly was. But Pod was just a squire, and he was the Imp's squire at that.

There was nothing he could do in the face of the Queen's hatred for her younger brother. Queen Cersei wanted Lord Tyrion dead, even Podrick was observant enough to realize that. If she had it her way, there wouldn't even be a trial, there would just be an execution. But Tywin Lannister was not inclined to just go chopping off heads, even if Podrick knew that the Lord Paramount of the Westerlands hated his youngest son just as much as Cersei did.

To live such a life, to live not only as a half-man, crippled from birth, but also to live hated by one's entire family… Podrick's heart went out to Lord Tyrion, there was no doubt about that. It was half the reason that he could not betray the dwarf. His own honor and his loyalty being the other half. Given that she could not dispense justice as she saw fit, the Queen Mother had taken to stacking the deck against his Lord instead.

If Podrick didn't know better, he would have accused Queen Cersei herself of poisoning King Joffrey. But if there was one thing everyone was sure of; it was that the Queen Mother's love for her children was great. Likely even greater than her hatred for Lord Tyrion. However, she was so sure that he'd done it, so caught up in her grief, that she was aiming to work every angle in an effort to see her brother executed.

Podrick had turned down an offer of knighthood in exchange for implicating Lord Tyrion, when he saw Tyrion's woman, Shae, being escorted to the Queen's Chambers. Podrick himself had not been important enough to warrant a direct meeting with Queen Cersei, instead he'd been approached by the Queen's Men, and when he'd denied them, there had been vague threats that protecting his Lord would lead him to an early grave, and all that rot.

Podrick didn't much care about what happened to him. If he went down with Lord Tyrion, so be it. However, seeing the whore that Tyrion had fallen in love with being brought to the Queen's chambers, Podrick knew that he had to do something. It was… Shae was Tyrion's heart, from what Podrick had seen and heard in service to his Lord.

If he could save her from whatever tortures Cersei might inflict upon her, then Podrick would risk life and limb to do so. Which is what saw him going rather out of his way, climbing out onto a balcony of all things that led into the Queen's Chambers, just to see what was going on. He wasn't a sneaky man by any stretch of the word, but for now at least, Podrick believed himself unnoticed.

However, peering into the Queen's Chamber from the balcony he'd crept out onto, Podrick is surprised to find that, contrary to what he expected to see, Shae and Cersei are alone. Rather than Shae knelt on the floor, held by guards and possibly even tortured by them, the young woman is sat at a table across from the Queen, sharing… wine with her, of all things.

Frowning, Podrick tilts his head sideways so he can try to hear what they're talking about.

"… then we're agreed on what you will say at court, whore?"

"Y-Yes Your Grace…"

Cersei is quiet for a moment before speaking again.

"Repeat it back to me. I want to make sure you have it all right. I'm certainly paying enough that I'd better get my money's worth."

"Tyrion and Sansa p-planned the murder of King Joffrey together. She wanted revenge for her father, mother, and brother. She blamed their deaths on the King. Tyrion was happy to h-help. He hated Joffrey… he hated you… he hated Lord Tywin. He stole poison from the Grandmaester's Chamber, to put in Joffrey's wine."

Cersei hums her approval, even as Podrick's eyes widen in slow-dawning horror.

"And what if they ask how you came to know all of this, hm? What will you tell them then?"

"I-I will confess that I am h-his whore. I will t-tell them that he took me from a knight in Lord Tywin's service, that he threatened me and then placed me with Lady Sansa so he could have me whenever he wanted. I will h-humiliate him Your Grace, as you desire…"

It takes every ounce of Podrick's willpower not to leap from his hiding place right then and there. How could she do this? How could Shae betray Lord Tyrion in this manner? And the Queen… the Queen was eating it all up, a satisfied smile on her face, even as it masked the grief in her eyes.

"I'm sure you will. Because if you don't, if you fail me… the retrieval of my gold will be the least of your worries."

With that threat so blatantly given, Cersei reaches down and pulls a sack of coin up from the side of her chair. She drops it down on the table between them, and both Podrick and Shae's eyes go wide at the amount of money that must be in the bulging bag. Though, for different reasons. Podrick's first thought is that it's not nearly enough, that any amount is paltry in the face of betraying one's honor, one's Lord.

Shae's first thought is clearly far greedier, as she immediately reaches for the bag, only for Cersei's hand to come down upon her own, her nails digging into Shae's flesh as she leans forward.

"Am I clear, whore? Do you understand what happens if you fail to live up to your end of this bargain?"

Shae rapidly nods as Podrick holds his breath, wanting nothing more than to leap out and slay the both of them, right then and there. It would not be very knightly, but that's not what holds him back from slaying a Queen and a whore like they're equals. No, it's the fact that Lord Tyrion's case would not be helped, if his own squire was discovered to have assassinated the Queen Mother.

Helping Lord Tyrion is the only thing on Podrick's mind, as Cersei lets go of Shae's hand and Shae snatches up her coin, hurrying to stand and leave the Queen's Chambers. Podrick is quick to make his way back off of the balcony and into the Red Keep once she's gone, keeping his head down and taking the long way around to his ultimate destination. He needed time to contemplate what he'd just discovered, everything he just heard. And he didn't want to be caught stalking Cersei's new witness through the Red Keep…

An hour later, Podrick steps into Shae's room, a small chamber a few minutes away from Sansa's old bedroom, so that the whore could best fulfill her duties as Sansa's handmaiden, when the Lady Stark was still here, of course. Now though, this part of the Red Keep is somewhat barren, and much to Podrick's pleasure, the Queen Mother has not seen fit to set any sort of guard outside of Shae's room. That's good, it gives him a chance to talk to Lord Tyrion's whore, to try and make her see reason.

"Pod? What are you doing here?"

Shae sounds surprised to see him, even as she hides the gold dragons that she'd been counting out quite smoothly with her body. If he hadn't known to look for them, he wouldn't have even seen the stacks of coin and the empty bag before she slid in front of it. Looking Shae in the eye, Podrick steps into the room. He's not armed, he hasn't been allowed to carry a sword since Lord Tyrion's arrest. But something of his anger must show in his face, because Shae pulls back, bumping her ass into the table where she'd been counting her coin as he approaches.

"You're going to betray Lord Tyrion. You're going to testify against him in court tomorrow."

Shae sputters at his blunt accusation, but all her denials merely make his jaw set in determination and anger.

"W-What? Don't be ridiculous! They don't know about Tyrion and I's relationship; they have no reason to call me to the sta-!"

"DO NOT LIE TO ME!"

Podrick Payne has never been a man quick to anger. But with what he'd heard, and an hour to let it simmer in his head, the young squire is most suitably enraged. Shae flinches in fear for a moment, but then seemingly decides he's nothing, that he's no threat to her, because the next thing Podrick knows, she's slapped him across the face. As his head turns from the blow, Shae's spine straightens and her jaw clenches as she juts her chin out in defiance.

"Get out!"

Under most normal circumstances, having raised his voice at a woman and then having been subsequently slapped by said woman, Podrick Payne would have followed her orders and left her alone. He was, at the end of the day, a good man. Perhaps not a knight yet, but then, most knights would have reacted poorly to being slapped by a whore anyways. No, it would have been because he had honor, more than anything else.

However, this was not normal circumstances. This… this WHORE had betrayed his Lord, was planning to betray his Lord, and Podrick was the only one who currently stood between Lord Tyrion and heartbreak. So instead of leaving, the young man takes a step forward, cornering Shae up against the table where she was counting her coin.

"I won't. Not until you admit it. Admit it!"

There's a moment's pause, and then the whore openly scoffs.

"Fine! Yes, I'm going to testify against Tyrion tomorrow! He can't protect me anymore, and I've realized he never could! I have to look after myself, first and foremost. As you should be doing! Do you think they won't cut off your head right alongside his, if you don't turn on him? You should take this opportunity for what it is!"

Stepping aside, Shae sweeps her hand towards the table behind her, towards her stacks of gold dragons.

"Look at what they were willing to pay a whore like me for my confession! Just imagine what they will give you! All you have to do is turn on that pathetic half-man an-AH!"

SMACK!

This time, it's Podrick who lashes out. The anger had been building in him from the moment that she began to speak, but when she continued on, confessing her true thoughts, confessing that she'd never actually cared for Lord Tyrion and only saw him as protection, the anger ignited into an inferno of rage. With a roar like that of a lion, Podrick backhands Shae across the face, spinning her about. Then, he grabs her by her hair, and does it again.

Harsh slaps, back and forth across the whore's face, eventually bring her to the ground. Podrick's anger is legendary, but at the same time, he knows that just a simple beating won't be enough to teach this… this treacherous little whore a lesson. He's never been this kind of man before, but for this kind of woman, he thinks he can make an exception. If she wants to act like a whore, then he'll treat her like one… and not in the way he handled those three whores Tyrion bought to take his virginity.

As Shae turns over onto her hands and knees and begins fearfully trying to crawl away from him, Podrick reaches down and grabs her. One hand clasps the back of her neck, while the other comes up between her legs, under her dress, and roughly pinches at her clit. Shae squeaks at this, her legs jerking from the abrupt pleasure and pain, and Podrick half-sneers, half-grins as he looms over her.

"P-Please, Pod, what are you doing?! Stop! Let me go!"
