1 History of Terrasen

Under the rule of King Connal II, The kingdom of Terrassen gained control of two thirds of the continent and was officially renamed the Terrassen Empire.

In an effort to secure their safety, the surrounding kingdoms offered up their princesses as prospective wives for the powerful new emperor.

Dreadful tension stirred in the continent, as whoever the emperor chose as his wife would have great impact on the status of the kingdom she came from.

Each kingdom wanted their princess to become the Empress to ensure that their kingdom would not be invaded, as well as to reap the benefits of being so closely allied to the empire.

A dark chapter in the continent's history ensued as more than a hundred princesses were assassinated as the competition to become the Empress grew fierce.

To put an end to the bloodshed, Emperor Connal II decreed that there would be no Empress. Instead, him and his descendants would take on wives from each kingdom that wished to ally with the Terrassen empire, ensuring that no more girls would die meaninglessly.

As the centuries went by, the process of becoming a wife became more formal. Women of royal blood or high status were sent to the capital of Terrassen as candidates and were then reviewed by the royal selection team. If they were chosen, their life of quiet luxury could begin knowing they had secured the safety of their kingdom or families, if not, they were sent back home with gifts. The collective residence of these chosen women was known as the Royal Harem, and the wives were ranked and given different statuses within the harem. From the lowest rank title to the most prestigious was attendant, damsel, imperial companion, concubine, consort and queen.

In the year 1403, under the rule of the current Emperor Cathal, an extraordinary occurrence happened. The wondrous floating Mage Kingdom of Alynythi accepted Terrassen's peace treaty and sent down their princess to be the Queen of Terrassen.

She was a beautiful, kind and a keenly intelligent woman who brought about much advancement and change to the empire.

She was appreciated both in the court and in the harem for her just ways. And it was no secret that her and the emperor were deeply in love.  Although it took many years of trying, they had a son together and named him Kellan in hope for his bright future.

In 1420 tragedy struck. Evidence was brought forth that the Queen had been the one to plot the death of a consort's child. The Queen's closest lady in waiting testified that the Queen cursed the Consort with magic in a plot to kill the unborn child in her stomach out of jealousy since the Queen took so long to have a child herself.

The Queen's magic tools were brought forth and presented as evidence. Since the Consort came from a powerful allied nation who demanded justice for the death of the child, there was only one way to restore peace. The enraged Emperor ordered for the Queen to be executed as retribution for the royal child she killed.

The execution destroyed the relationship between Terrassen and Alynthi, and the empire suffered without the help of their powerful magic.

The ten year old Prince Kellan was crippled by the sudden shock of losing his mother. He became increasingly ill and stayed locked up in his mother's palace, never to participate in royal affairs or meet with any of his family again.

The emperor refused to name a new Queen and distanced himself from the harem. He burried himself in work to try and rid himself of the heart break and pain that made him believe his wife would murder his unborn child.

For many years the palace was in a dreary state until the Queen's older brother came forth with definitive evidence that proved the maid had lied, and that the poor dead Queen was framed.

Shame filled the hearts of all those who believed the lies and had slandered the former Queen. The Emperor in particular felt tremendous guilt as he was the one who sentenced his innocent beloved to death.

The entire empire felt remorseful and held a proper and grand funeral for the wrongfully accused. Although they all regretted, Prince Kellan felt nothing but disdain for them. In his years of isolation his heart died and his resolve steeled. Revenge was all he cared about. The cruelty he endured was all caused by the framing of his innocent mother. It was a crime he could not forgive.

So the young Prince set out on the path of revenge, his hatred and resentment leading his way. He brought about the destruction of the empire with his own hands by committing atrocity after atrocity until the entire continent was stained in blood. Only as he died did he discover that he had been used the entire time. It was in that moment of anguish that his birthright magic broke free and sent him years into the past to do his life over again.

Although, that last chapter of his history has been long forgotten...
